    I can't thank you enough!! I'm 70 years old and picked up my first guitar as a teenager in 1966. Played about 5 years on my own and with a high school band. Went into the Army in '71 and played until I got out in '74. Unfortunately quit playing until I was 68 years old. Bought a JazzMaster & '65 Super Reverb and have been trying hard to get it all back. I was taught a very bad version of Wildwood Flower in my youth. Watching your SUPER learning technique I've finally mastered Wildwood Flower. Thank you SO much and I'll keep watching and learning from you.

    My dad had a Martin Guitar and he use to play this. His guitar looks brand new. He has been gone for 2 years. He use to play Wildwood Flower all the time when I was growing up. It was his favorite song. He's gone but that Martin Guitar is still here as beautiful as ever.

      Wrong about the old traditional ! Mother Maybelle Carter wrote that song. They called her a dumb hillbilly because she played the note before she fretted it. She is credited for what we now know as the hammer on.

    This is the song my grandma played and caused me to fall in love with the guitar. I started trying to play her guitars when the war in the Ukraine broke out. I finally got the nerve to try this song. After a month, I've finally made my way all the way through it, with your instruction. Thank you!

    Great style of teaching. I suffered ab brain injury (TDI) which wiped out my memory and re-wired the circuitry in my brain. I lost all ability to play music after having played for decades. I'm actually learning and remembering things by using your videos.
    Thanks

      I'm so sorry you suffered such a traumatic experience. Keep playing each opportunity you have to play, it's therapy in it's own way. And an escape from some of the pain for me. Praying for your full recovery and best wishes for you.

    I'm from the Ozarks of Missouri this instruction is the best that I've seen. It's been some time since I played I've injured my left hand causing me to put away my 12 strings. Now living in Ozark Alabama and much older (68) I'm returning to my roots of southern gospel and mountain music. Thanks for the lesson.

    Thanks for sharing this tune, picked my first guitar up at 74 years of age, always wanted to copy Maybelle's style of playing, a lot of history behind the song and her gift for playing it. You have a natural talent for teaching and the split videos help. I went over to the Nashville from the UK to visit the Country Music hall of Fame, in 2013 never even cntemplating that I would ever play this tune, now thanks to you I can. It is never to late to start playing the guitar, a Godsend during the pandemic. keep up the good work and thanks again

    Good tutorial, but the name of the song is Wildwood Flower. There's only one of them Mama June Carter sang it that way; her lover compares her to a flower that grows in the forest. The titles on the video are wrong.

    Wonderful lesson! Wondering how long you think it should take a beginner (6 months) to learn something like this all the way through?

    • @CenterStageGuitar
      @CenterStageGuitar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don, thats a tough question cause it depends on how much you are practicing. Can you can play the 3 chords required and switch back and forth flawlessly on beat? Bryan

    • @DonLemelin
      @DonLemelin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the quick response Bryan. Fortunately I'm able to practice quite a bit (couple hours every day). No problem with most chord changes certainly not the easy ones (some changes from open to barre are still a little clunky) but this is the first piece with note picking mixed in that I've tried and it's taken me about 4 hours to get the first 2 sections down. At this rate I'm figuring it'll take me a week to be able to play it through at speed without any/many mistakes....

    • @CenterStageGuitar
      @CenterStageGuitar  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For where you are at as a beginner playing just 6 months I would say you are doing great! It is tricky to play those melody notes within the chords, especially for a beginner. Great job getting those first 2 bars down in 4 hours! With the amount of time you have to practice I would say you will have this nailed in a week. If you need the tab you can get it here for just a $1.50 centerstagetabs.com/product/wildwood-flower/ But it sounds like you are doing pretty good without it!
