      Very nice Doug. I need to start committing to the top leg single/ghost options. I do use the elbow push a lot and usually find that I get it by frustrating my opponents attempt to get the cross face making him opt to cross the top arm over.
      You referenced the choke that is available when you opt to tunnel your arm under - Poppa choke ( 31:17 ). We don't threaten that at my dojo although I do try, and usually fail, with the North-South choke.
      Can you include the Poppa choke in a video some time or point me in the direction of a video you have done. It definitely looks like it needs to be in my arsenal.
      Great instruction Doug. Just looking at the board behind you indicates the level of organization.

    Wow, you explained this so well Coach. Im highly impressed with this video. No one has broken it down into segments as well as this. Even calling certain positions name (i.e. Stone Squirrel) will make it easier to remember. Im in the very early learning stages of this Art and I get stuck in side control all the time. Unfortunately, we get taught higher level techniques like arm bars and knee on belly techniques, before we get taught these basics. I appreciate this a great deal :)
    A video series on sweeps, getting out of half guard and guard passing would be excellent. Subscribed. And looking forward to seeing your channel progress. All the best for now :)

    Coach Doug - some of the best how-to videos I've seen yet. 2 stripe white belt 1 year into BJJ and love it, but have been frustrated with my side control game against guys 20-50lbs heavier. This is so helpful. I'm noticing all of my mistakes as you go through this. Especially at 8:55. I kept wondering why that move never seemed to work for me. No wonder, I was trying to roll and muscle the guy instead of scooting my hips back underneath.

    I only recently found your channel and enjoy it very much. As a 47 year old white belt I have become obsessed with escaping the bottom of cross side (and knee on belly, North/south, scarf, modified scarf, reverse scarf). This video is very helpful for the common head and arm control. If you ever do a follow up video, may I suggest covering other common arm positions (arm on near side hip and top arm far side head, both arms near side, both arms far side, leg weave, pants grip, etc.). I'm sure many of these work with different arm control positions, but it would be comforting to know which ones to use under different control positions. Thanks a lot for these videos!

      Vanguard Gym I am a huge fan of all your videos. White belt with 8 months of training....wrestler (25 years ago). Waited a long time to get back into grappling but better late than never. I am working the first two postures now with some success. Still struggle getting out against heavier/ stronger guys who know how to bring a lot of pressure. I was rolling with a second degree BB from São Paulo last week and he was saying wait for the guy to make his move before I umpa and start the escape. I've heard this before from others too. Thoughts?

    Wow, this was wonderful. I'm doing about 50% of these already but how you showed their connectivity with one another was very helpful. I built an excel spreadsheet to keep it all organized. Now to drill it all into my head. thanks so much for putting this together I'm a mid-blue belt but I want to get a black belt in bottom side control. I love the detail, it was amazing.

    Very nice video. If I can make a suggestion, to really be "everything about side control escapes", there should also be some escapes from other side control positions like Kesa gatame and Ushiro Kesa gatame, especially since several of the escapes in the video can be countered by going to Kesa.

    • @BJJCurriculum

      Nice, but I meant more on dealing with kusure kesa (underhook) and ushiro kesa, since these are the positions the guy on top moves to protect against most traditional side control escapes. Hon Kesa is more a position you get from a throw

    Everytime I go to class, I'm given a tiny random bit of the gigantic BJJ puzzle and then it's left up to me to sort these bits out on my own. Usually the bits are long ago forgotten before I can figure out hoe they fit together. Going through this vid slowly and will probably revisit several times with more questions but my first is the Bump and Roll from Stone Squirrel, what happens if/when opp posts that far hand in response to your hip switch/roll/sweep? Seems like the natural counter to that technique.

    Are there specific escapes that you would go for when your partner is >50lbs than you? I have a partner who is >390lbs (I am ~265lbs) and I typically end up letting him take mount as my mount escapes are stronger.

      My own instructor in Mississauga teaches a lot of the same things. That is why I have gravitated to this channel. It has become my night time routine to watch at least 30 minutes every night. What is your facebook page?

    i like this SSP frame but how would you deal with the opponent following you since both hands are holding the shoulder and not blocking the opponent hip ? i’ll give it a try thanks for the video

    • @BJJCurriculum
      @BJJCurriculum  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the inside hand to block the hip at any time to help you get on your side!

    appreciate your Videos but does this "hip bump and use of elbows" work if the Person puts his weight on and holds his Hands tight with a cable grip ? what if i cant bring some space with the elbows between me and him cuz of his tightness ?thank you

    White belt with one month in. That rainbow roll looks so overpowered from my perspective.

    So "stone squirrel" is like a Thai plumb on the shoulder? Just can't see on the angle of the camera.

    • @BJJCurriculum
      @BJJCurriculum  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      One arm is across the hips and one across the shoulders framing your opponent and allowing you to make space without "benching" him off.
