I did it once when I was sherpa-ing people through the raid, wanted to teach them the legit method so at least 5 guardians knew how it was SUPPOSED to be done and actually used that method. I still cheese it though because it's easier. I hate myself for it

Raids shouldn't be soloable. Me: Then that means from a canon perspective we Raid with random Guardians since there is technically only 1 player Guardian if the Raids can't be soloed.
Hey Datto, for the sake of avoiding having to scroll through hundreds of comments to find out if someone mentioned it already, I'm going to just quickly mention how to jump the rock near the bridge in the abyss encounter near the final lamp. Just in case your still not sure, you have to approach the rock from the inside, so you'll be in between the lamp and rock. There you will find the lowest point, and you can easily jump onto the rock with even at max weight of darkness. The larger rock parallel to that rock which is near the edge of a drop is also scalable using the same approach point as the smaller rock, except it requires 3 small jumps to the reach the top. Obviously not if you have been cleansed but this is in regards to having full weight of darkness. The larger stone is used in many occasions to have a better field of view when fighting the ogre or ogres in some cases that appear before the bridge forms. Hey man...I really miss d1, still can’t believe they abandoned, or appear to have abandoned all that great content. But regarding Croat, I absolutely LOVED all the cheese, seriously, loved it. Broke my heart when they “fixed” the heavy glitch (that was so fun). And again broke my heart when they “fixed” Croat in year 3. I know personally, I spent far less time in all the “new, fixed” raids. I guess as an ethos, I feel cheese is healthy and fun...within reason. Anyway, I know his video is ancient, but still, GREAT JOB man.
You didn't know the Knights don't spawn? People have basically been jumping from the rock on lamp 2 up to this part and standing on the rock at the bridge. The Ogre still spawns and you have to kill it before it shoots you, but the thrall leave you alone and you can just run over the bridge. People are basically solo'ing/cheesing the abyss in like 5 minutes using this method. Amazing Bungie hasn't patched that cheese yet, lol.
Just figured you would have seen some of the cheesers using it before, lol. Still was funny seeing you trying to get up there, but otherwise was awesome seeing a legit solo on Crota.
Honestly it's fine. Crota himself is so underwhelming compared to VoG that they don't need to patch it. I say this because every time they patch something it inevitably harms the legit players. Here's to hoping HoW is more like VoG than Crota.

I solo'd crota with my Hunter. It was actually one of the things that made me love destiny so much. 6 people could fail time and time again and not be able to complete the raid, but if you really know the raid well enough, you can do it with one person. It was a hidden challenge that really made the game fun
Atheon himself can be killed playing solo, u need a warlock woth sunsinger, the knockback punch and one of the 3 nades (not sure which one) then you can push him off and that counts as a kill.... If only it didnt take 100 tries before you get it succesfully.
Watching you try to get on the rock as a Destiny veteran is pretty funny. That is the first thing I learned when doing the raid. There is a "ramp" on the other side that you can use even under x10 weight.
The days when all you had to worry about was copyrighted music... Now you have to worry about if you say 'fuck' once and YT demonitizing the vid. Or just black-listing you altogether... Unless you're corporate protected.
You easily get on the rock even with 10 darkness. Your jumping from the wrong side lol. You jump on from the side the lamp is on. Plus the lamp explosion wont hit you if your in the middle of the rock.
Not sure if anyone has answered your question with regard to how a Warlock solo's the start but, for me, it's pretty much a combo of the method you've just used. Max out agility for speed, set 2 grenades and increased radiance time. Use Solar grenades for AOE but combine them with Sunbreakers for the longer effect time. Set yourself for extra toughness while active or, if you don't trust yourself, set the self res and use the super as a last resort. Personally, I use Fatebringer to deal with the Thralls as a couple of good crits can destroy an entire pack (add the rapid reload after a kill and you're not worrying about ammo too much). My helmet has "killing minions of darkness increases your super", so the combo of multi-kills and the helmet means I get my super very quickly. Black Hammer is my go to weapon for Ogres and Knights. You can get a good number of crits laced into an Ogre from inside your solar bubble with good ol' Gjal to finish the job. The rest is pretty much exactly as you have done with the Titan except for the kill on Crota himself. I tend to use the rock on the right side of Crota's platform then slap him in the face with a couple of rockets as he peers over the edge looking for me. Jump up, smack him a few times, drop the sword and leg it back to the rock to reload and shoot him again. Jumping up you grab the sword mid run and get some more smacks in before getting outta dodge.
I saw someone do this solo unbelievably quick. It's not really a raid if you can finish it by yourself and cheese all of the parts. VoG was a raid because you needed at least 2 people.
Datto i know that the video is about soloing crota and i appreciate you trying to give input on how to make it less likely to be able to solo it. But i think that it would be interesting if you would make a video on improving the crota experience by addressing the bits that fall flat (ir yut, some bits of crota). Those sections are due a lookover to make the raid experience better. Keep up the good work+
Thomas McConville HM05 has a no-guns solo, IIRC. He uses Sunsinger to do it (might be the only class that could do this due to Radiance spammable grenades)
it is absolutely OP because it deals 2 rockets worth of damage per rocket if fired at a single target or it has the biggest most stupid blast radius if fired on a group due to the tracking of wolfpack also it has a hidden perk that works like proximity detonation although to a lesser extent and we all know that prox rockets are the noob-tubes of destiny
Ali Bakkali since it's only PvE OP it probably won't be nerfed until xur sells it or maybe until HoW raid comes out(after all bungie might want to bump up the difficulty there)
I wish it was more like WoW where being overleveled actually meant something. The only time light seriously matters in Destiny in when you're below the encounter threshold. If you're vastly above, it makes significantly less of a difference than if you're vastly below.

Its a game Datto... people need the ability to have fun... once again, this is a game. You say all this shouldn't be possible but the fact it is, is a very nice thing and gives a lot of players something to do outside of the rule set people like you think exists. If Bungie didn't want this possible they would of put a min player requirement on the raids, nightfalls and so on. Bungie always had the idea of allowing players to solo content, including raids. You can argue this but bottom line is if Bungie didn't want to they wouldn't of supported it from the start. Like when they balanced Nightfalls, they didn't stop people from Soloing them they just made it slightly harder, which is a good challenge. I don't see a point in picking flaws to a video game that was made by people that may share differing opinions to your own, you don't know what went into the final decision of what should be and not be in the game so you shouldn't be making videos saying the game is broken or should be changed when to a developer its not, in their eye's its going in the direction the wanted, its never perfect and never will be, that's the fault in design, you can always improve. I don't know what happen to you datto but ever since you went all anti cheese you have really changed to a person who picks on small things and missed the big picture. You focus to much on yourself and what you think and never take the time to step back and think maybe this is here for players that aren't like me. Look I get your opinion on if bungie didnt want it to be soloed they would make it impossible to do. And I never thought of it that way and its a rather good point. Its not like this is world of warcraft were you need a tank and a healer or else yoy will die. Pretty much all damage in this game could be avoided which is why fights that dont require multiple people are solo able. However my only issue with what yoy said is that you criticized datto for sharing his opinion yet you still posted yours its kinda hypocritical.
We'll is hard to avoid critizing some on an opinion when yours differs so strongly. It's possible but it's not my field of knowledge to be able to do so. I understand everyone's comments so far, thanks.
I know game purists will be mad about the ability to solo, but I think they should leave it in there. Main reason being, not everybody has 5 other people they can get together to run these raids. The penalty for not being able to run it is losing out on the best gear and weapons in the game, plus not being able to fully level up. That's not really fair to those folks ... so if they sat around and figured out how to beat it solo, then they deserve even more props because there's groups of 6 that can't get it done.

I'd rather have a raid be able to be soloed than require a team of 5 or 6 like VoG does. There's always that guy who ends up dieing and ruining everything with the over soul or not taking down his shrieker when he had a clear shot for it. At least on solo you only have yourself to blame and know what shit needs done.
but the entire point of the raid is for it to be a coop 6 man activity meant to bring the best teams together to solve hard puzzles and beat difficult bosses with interesting mechanics it's supposed to be a team effort where everyone pulls their weight...except it's nothing like that and instead it's like you said: it's easier to just solo because you trust yourself not to be stupid.....and that's kinda sad

Soloing Crota is pretty fun...Being a solo player I take pride in challenging myself and knowing the ways around nightfall and jazz. And yes on all three characters. Here are some tips for ppl who have yet to solo this electric hive master....For hard mode you have to run a sub class that regenerates health. Void walker, hammer, blade dancer. Lanterns...bow, hammers, emperor palpateen. jump on the rock or the thin slit/pilar where the bridge starts. Making way across the bridge is probably the hardest part as you could form the bridge by stepping on and off or you can equip your highest aligility/ height class and jump across swinging away. For ir yut celestial nigh hawk does the trick. hammers and stormcallers are great. For Crota the one thing you need is telesto - it does damage on impact and the delayed void burst give you a chance to get off another shot for constant damage. Make sure to have the larger mag perk as missing a shot can be costly. I'm sure everyone is aware of the right rock strat. thats where you get him to walk, shoot him with telesto pick up the sword and if you time it right by the time you get up there hes about to kneel. I don't like going back to mid/inside so i stay bottom right chamber. regen health and draw the sword...once he starts to make his way back (from walking aorund the stage) kill the sword and repeat telesto strat. I only bring him down once each sword. On the 3rd sword orgers will pop up (2) in the chamber where you were at and the left chamber. if its normal I believe they come mid. MG and nades usually do it for me. note that if you kill them there is a delay for the sword to spawn and if you kill the sword and pick it up theres a chance crota will start moving and your chance to kill him the final third time is gone. its better to kill the ogers let crota walk about and as he gets back. take the sword and telesto... Stick around till endgame/match stats as you can still get a y1 exotic Hope this helps! See you guys in Rise of Iron!

Datto, the sword disappears either after 45 seconds without picking it up, or within 30 seconds of picking it up. So you have a total of 15 seconds of time before you can pick up the sword without losing any time. This may help for the bridge encounter.
I remember when you just made videos that shared your strategies. You have a talent for explaining parts of the game to help others improve and succeed. Your recent exotic armor videos were terrific. But this video is just elitist junk. I understand that you're looking for an experience so difficult that only a handful of players can complete. Awesome, and good on you. But "broken"? "Broken" means "unplayable". I don't think that's case here. Are almost all players solo-ing the raid? Of course not. There are things in both raids that need fixing, but not what you think.

If you dont think the crota raid is broken you need your head checked. It is meant to be a 6 man encounter sir. The fact that folks solo it and 2 or even 3 man it says a lot of bungies standards. They dont even care to patch all the cheeses. So yes it is broken in the sense that it has no challenge, it is not fun. Some strikes on lvl 26 are more fun. Im not here to defend datto he can be a dick yes but fact is crota raid is a broken joke. On hard all bungie chose to do was spawn more enemies, no revive, no chalice. Big fucking deal.
J KING Well most of what you said is opinion. CE can be a challenge and at the same time it's real easy. For some people a challenge isn't necessarily fun, so it differs. Stating that everybody thinks CE is broken in this video, I just can't take that seriously. Datto is part of the minority, he has a set raid group who each have their roles and know exactly what to do and even gone to do shotguns only. The rest of us go on lfg when we have the time. For Datto it must be a cake walk but the rest of us know the struggle.
I love your video's, don't get me wrong...but you complain too much. Every time you complain, bungie makes something less liked. It's fun to have gear and weapons that are totally broken and awesome. Nice video though. 😉
I did the Abyss with defender Titan, Eidolon Ally, and Nova Mortis. I used my magnetic grenade to clear large clusters of enemies (or stick the knights for easy clear), meleed a thrall for overshield with the perk that allows super quick reload and turned and gunned dawn all the thrall, turned out surprisingly well!
I miss playing destiny with my group, good times on the Xbox one. to those who lost the group after time. i hope everyone is having a good time and is okay.
!3:20 The real problem IS the sword. A single guardian can deal a lot of damage to crota with it. And then, the raid actually is easier to solo than to do it with a raid group. The bridge takes 5 minutes if you are alone and you dash across the big hole in the centre instead of forming the bridge.
LOL, Datto. You can be on the rock and not die from the lamp explosion. Just sit on the side of the rock opposite the lamp. Also, to get on the rock, I usually jump up the side closer to the lamp and never have a problem.
The easiest way to get pass the thralls on a titan is probably by jumping on the rock closest to the wall at the second lamp, once you're on the rock you can jump onto the wall with increased height. Once you're past that part you can go towards the circle thing that will spawn the bridge. Equip Helmet of Saint-14 and Zhalo supercell + increased duration of ward of dawn. Just stand in your bubble with armour of light and hold down the trigger, the bridge should spawn before your 2nd Ward ends
At the last lamp, the rock closer to where the ogre spawns is easier to jump on (and far enough away from the lamp to not get blown up). Also, a Striker Titan can double jump - shoulder charge from the top of the second lamp to the cliff above (I've found that is easier than trying to do it from the rock).
Great video Datto! This topic has me torn though. Whilst I agree that you shouldn't really be able to solo a raid, I love doing solo speedruns! They are a really cool fun, highly challenging activity that keeps me interested in the game, even though I have kinda seen it all, done it all. It reminds me of doing Dark Souls speed runs and I love it!
Bungie has announced the next expansion after the Comet this fall. This time rather than new areas to explore and new story missions you will get the same ones from a different perspective. You get to play as the aliens that are trying to kill us and start from the Ultra at the end of the level and go to the beginning swapping from one character class to another to place them in strategic locations to kill the guardian(s) as they proceed through the level. To enable this you get four new slots at the character selection screen for the Fallen, Hive, Vex, and Cabal. The reward for leveling up in addition to playing the harder story missions and raids will eventually allow you to do a strike on the tower when you reach Dark level 32 but it is mostly a defensive based style. The twist that is in this expansion is that you are substituting yourself for the game's ai in missions other guardians are doing. The more advanced weapons are being kept under wraps for now but the image for the frenzy claws for Thralls look very promising. Oh yeah. April fools but it would be a great idea Bungie hint hint nudge nudge wink wink.
I honestly don't think the entire end of the raid needs to be balanced around the gjallarhorn, a weapon that not everyone even has. Making the gjallarhorn weaker would just make everyone rage and making crota stronger would make it only possible with gjallarhorns. I say it's fine as it is, they just should have made it more like VoG where teamwork was required to win. But as far as Crota's End being soloable, I think it's cool given that it's supposed to have an action movie feel to it.
I remember playing Destiny on my PS4 a few years ago. One of my friends told me about how Crota's End Soloing was possible which blew my mind. I then spent the next hour or 2 figuring out how and eventually did it myself. Good times.
I like how you didnt think of switching positions to get onto the rock lol. You can basically jump on it from the lamp-side regardless of how high your Weight of Darkness is.
Advice for jumping on the rock you touch the pad first. then go to the lamp. takes 5-8 darkness b4 getting to 10. going from that lamp just after a sword knight should run to the left path to get to the pad then touch it. and more agility does help along with +2 agilty perk on a shotty.
Datto, I personally believe that bungie created Gjallarhorn to be a trump card vs. bosses. It isn't necessary to nerf it, but maybe make it a hard exotic bounty, something along the lines of the difficulty of thorn mixed with the variety of invective. But that's just my opinion, nice video as always!
Sometimes when the ogres are coming out on the bridge part, the totems go off for me? Why is it doing this and is there a way to get around it? I've have only completed the bridge part once and that was because I took out the wizard that spawns in the middle. I would just like an explanation. Thanks guys.
I used Sunbreaker to get up to Crota, and got stuck. I should have switched to defender...thanks for this Datto. Sunbreaker can get a LOT of speed buffs which come in handy.....everywhere lol.
On normal mode, this raid can be done with everything that came from the dark below DLC. the primary can be anything, but a pistol or scout rifle with explosive rounds can really be helpfull. as a special weapon is blackhammer good, but an ice breaker works great as well, even though you need to be a bit more patiente with it and for heavies, either go with hunger of crota or dragonsbreath ( next to the obvious choice of the Gjallarhorn. The thing with the abyss running part is that doing it all by yourself can actually be easier than doing it with a team as you can choose your own speed. I always tend to go with full agility as a striker and jump up on those lamps and throw grenades or shoot a rocket to get my super energy. so a bad juju is not needed there. The bridge part can be really annoying for me since for me the sword bearer runs around into some corners and I have to go and look for him if I want his sword, after you come over the brigde you can just camp on the those little pillars right next to the circles on the other sides. the Gate keeper there is no problem no matter if you have a sword or not, because you can actually trick him into suicide by sitting on the ground with your back on a pillar. then just kill the ogres and you are good to go. For Ir Yut, my tactic is the same as yours. first the right wizard ( because she's the only one that actually goes back into the chambers when you stand somewhere outside). I kill her by sniping her from the boomer spots, then kill her shrieker, go to the next side and do the same. The way I fight Ir Yut is by running into her chamber where she is and jump up to these spots over the spawning doors. believe it or not, this is the saves spot when you want to kill her. Popping a titan bubble is sweet too, but not necessary. Crota is like how you showed, just with dragons breath and a bit luck from RNG to drop some Heavy ammo. three rockets and the solar grenades get that guy down on his knees..or two rockets and one sticky grenade from a defender. the two saves spots would be down the stairs and that chamber where you later run into when you kill the ogres and the ogre spawn areas themselfs. these are the spots where you litterly can see when a thrall will attack you and when they will back the fuck up. For warlocks, 4 fusion grenades with burn damage is all they need to bring him down on normal and that is seriously much easier and has better timing windows than the G-horn has. The biggest flaws of this raid is that none of these tasks require people to splitt up like in the Vault of Glass. Everything is down by being tight together. I think those are simply the flaws of that raid. Everything is based purely on firepower, nothing more. just firepower and that you never have to split up to be able to fullfill a task.
I just run icebreaker. Reach the lamp and quickly blow them up using the icebreaker perk. This is extremely helpful with the lightweight perk. Also saint plus armor of light provides a free lamp. When you reach the lamp start punching the thrall. This should get you another super by the next lamp or so.
Icebreaker is very OP for the lamps, u can "firefly" with bodyshots. Also you can outmatch thralls's speed without spend a single skill in agility. Sorry for the english
I think the run how it is now is perfectly fine besides a few bugs that hinder your progress in particular the sword falling off the Rock and Crota getting up faster then usual.

is this still possible year 2? I never played with friends back in year 1 and thus never knew about and never did the raids, vault of glass or crota. I wouldn't mind doing it, for my own sake but I just need to know if soloing is possible or do I need friends?
I know comment is probably way too late from when video was uploaded but I was trying to look for a way to solo the raid as a titan this helped btw. But this should be handy if you don't yet have the ghallarhorn and soloing the abyss as a warlock is the easiest in my opinion depending on you having don't touch me's on the hunter which I don't. For the abyss your best bet is to use sunsinger and the most important perks are solar grenade and gift of the sun also try to max out armour and recovery unless you're cheesing then you need as much agility as you can and a weapon that has the 2+ agility perk like the vex or icebreaker or swordbreaker or murmur. For a legitimate abyss bad juju is good and hunger of crota when you are in the aoe of the solar and you don't have your super charged, if you do have you super charged DONT WASTE ROCKETS as you will run into times when you need them. You will also need the perk where radiance reduces damage when active meaning you have to sacrifice self res. If you choose legitimate you could wait until your super is charged but if you're doing a speed run you do need at least 1 grenade ready and almost half of your super. Running at the firs lamp don't do anything and run straight for the second lamp and throw a solar grenade down next to the second lamp standing inside the aoe and kill everything following you run for the third lamp activating your super on the way there to have a grenade ready to throw down by the lamp to get rid of weight. This process is rinsed and repeated using your launcher or juju to get the super energy needed. To get on the cheese rock jump up the side closest to the lamp an edge your way to the opposite side so that when the lamp detonates you are not killed. When the ogre arrives kill it immediately, if you have icebreaker or any sniper aim to the left of the second to last lamp ( this is the lamp that is directly opposite the one you are stood next to when you are looking away from the bridge. When you have got rid of the ogre face the bridge wait for the second change in the music after the beat picks up to start running towards the bridge as this is when weight of darkness disappears and the bridge will form as you reach it. When it comes to the deathsinger and crota change the perks on sunsinger so that you have fusion grenades, the Viking funeral perk and the perk that makes your grenades ignite enemies. On the deathsinger, once you can do damage to her activate your super and kill the melee knights preferably before ir yut begins the liturgy, then you are free to kill her. On crota you want to save your super until you pick up the sword and move to your preferred rock on either side. Once getting up drop the sword and activate your super then throw 4 grenades at crota which should bring him down, straight after throwing the 4th grenade pick up the sword and jump up towards crota. You can only do this once but you should melt him in 3 swords meaning you have to do ogres. Once getting the first 3 hits on crota head for underneath the deathsinger chamber or the entrance to this area and stand to the right of the steps where the 2 knights were when you entered. Get to charging your super by killing thralls with bad juju before crota rotates back to the middle and/or the swordbearer comes out. After hitting crota again do the same as before but keep an eye out for when the ogres appear as you should be able to kill crota with the sword after them.
its the striker pulse grenades, as he explained, they creat and area of effect (AOE) of damage, and the enemies are programmed to stay away from these AOE damages, so they ignore him while he is inside the field
Yea had that discussion a few days ago (you should always be able to complete a goal you shouldn't be removed if everyone dies, that's not a recreational game that's work).
I know it's been years and forsaken is about to drop... but I miss being able to solo this raid. Most people love VOG the most but since I was a initially a solo player, I only got to try Crotas End by myself and MAN did i feel like Destiny was huge. I eventually did all the raids and yes, I think VOG is ultimately the best, but this raid is what first got me hooked on raiding
Crota' shield is a regular shield, an ascended vision takes it down in like 15-20 shots. I normally use vision when in a group, to keep the shield from regen cuz gaps in rockets will let it regen.
Just a suggestion if you use Ice Breaker and Fatebringer in the abyss it is possible to allow the abilities to clear thralls P.S. you don't need to scope in with Ice Breaker

I did it once when I was sherpa-ing people through the raid, wanted to teach them the legit method so at least 5 guardians knew how it was SUPPOSED to be done and actually used that method. I still cheese it though because it's easier. I hate myself for it

Hey Datto, for the sake of avoiding having to scroll through hundreds of comments to find out if someone mentioned it already, I'm going to just quickly mention how to jump the rock near the bridge in the abyss encounter near the final lamp. Just in case your still not sure, you have to approach the rock from the inside, so you'll be in between the lamp and rock. There you will find the lowest point, and you can easily jump onto the rock with even at max weight of darkness. The larger rock parallel to that rock which is near the edge of a drop is also scalable using the same approach point as the smaller rock, except it requires 3 small jumps to the reach the top. Obviously not if you have been cleansed but this is in regards to having full weight of darkness. The larger stone is used in many occasions to have a better field of view when fighting the ogre or ogres in some cases that appear before the bridge forms. Thanks for all the extremely detailed and well thought out, and explained commentary on all your videos, I know exactly how much time goes into producing each segment, so truly, thank you for all your continuous original content.

Hey man...I really miss d1, still can’t believe they abandoned, or appear to have abandoned all that great content. But regarding Croat, I absolutely LOVED all the cheese, seriously, loved it. Broke my heart when they “fixed” the heavy glitch (that was so fun). And again broke my heart when they “fixed” Croat in year 3. I know personally, I spent far less time in all the “new, fixed” raids. I guess as an ethos, I feel cheese is healthy and fun...within reason. Anyway, I know his video is ancient, but still, GREAT JOB man.
You didn't know the Knights don't spawn? People have basically been jumping from the rock on lamp 2 up to this part and standing on the rock at the bridge. The Ogre still spawns and you have to kill it before it shoots you, but the thrall leave you alone and you can just run over the bridge. People are basically solo'ing/cheesing the abyss in like 5 minutes using this method. Amazing Bungie hasn't patched that cheese yet, lol.

Honestly it's fine. Crota himself is so underwhelming compared to VoG that they don't need to patch it. I say this because every time they patch something it inevitably harms the legit players.

I solo'd crota with my Hunter. It was actually one of the things that made me love destiny so much. 6 people could fail time and time again and not be able to complete the raid, but if you really know the raid well enough, you can do it with one person. It was a hidden challenge that really made the game fun

My friend solos Crota every week now. Won't shut up about how incredibly easy it is. Crota's End is a fairly poor raid in comparison to VoG.

It isn't possible to solo Atheon without being a sunsinger, and some people would consider that cheese.
Atheon himself can be killed playing solo, u need a warlock woth sunsinger, the knockback punch and one of the 3 nades (not sure which one) then you can push him off and that counts as a kill.... If only it didnt take 100 tries before you get it succesfully.
You aren't going to be doing VoG on anything smaller than 4 man. HM is 5 required pretty much.(for templar).

Watching you try to get on the rock as a Destiny veteran is pretty funny. That is the first thing I learned when doing the raid. There is a "ramp" on the other side that you can use even under x10 weight.

You easily get on the rock even with 10 darkness. Your jumping from the wrong side lol. You jump on from the side the lamp is on. Plus the lamp explosion wont hit you if your in the middle of the rock.

Not sure if anyone has answered your question with regard to how a Warlock solo's the start but, for me, it's pretty much a combo of the method you've just used.
Max out agility for speed, set 2 grenades and increased radiance time. Use Solar grenades for AOE but combine them with Sunbreakers for the longer effect time. Set yourself for extra toughness while active or, if you don't trust yourself, set the self res and use the super as a last resort.
Personally, I use Fatebringer to deal with the Thralls as a couple of good crits can destroy an entire pack (add the rapid reload after a kill and you're not worrying about ammo too much). My helmet has "killing minions of darkness increases your super", so the combo of multi-kills and the helmet means I get my super very quickly. Black Hammer is my go to weapon for Ogres and Knights. You can get a good number of crits laced into an Ogre from inside your solar bubble with good ol' Gjal to finish the job.
The rest is pretty much exactly as you have done with the Titan except for the kill on Crota himself. I tend to use the rock on the right side of Crota's platform then slap him in the face with a couple of rockets as he peers over the edge looking for me. Jump up, smack him a few times, drop the sword and leg it back to the rock to reload and shoot him again. Jumping up you grab the sword mid run and get some more smacks in before getting outta dodge.
I saw someone do this solo unbelievably quick. It's not really a raid if you can finish it by yourself and cheese all of the parts. VoG was a raid because you needed at least 2 people.

Thomas McConville HM05 has a no-guns solo, IIRC. He uses Sunsinger to do it (might be the only class that could do this due to Radiance spammable grenades)
it is absolutely OP because it deals 2 rockets worth of damage per rocket if fired at a single target or it has the biggest most stupid blast radius if fired on a group due to the tracking of wolfpack
also it has a hidden perk that works like proximity detonation although to a lesser extent and we all know that prox rockets are the noob-tubes of destiny

I wish it was more like WoW where being overleveled actually meant something. The only time light seriously matters in Destiny in when you're below the encounter threshold. If you're vastly above, it makes significantly less of a difference than if you're vastly below.

You say all this shouldn't be possible but the fact it is, is a very nice thing and gives a lot of players something to do outside of the rule set people like you think exists. If Bungie didn't want this possible they would of put a min player requirement on the raids, nightfalls and so on. Bungie always had the idea of allowing players to solo content, including raids.
You can argue this but bottom line is if Bungie didn't want to they wouldn't of supported it from the start. Like when they balanced Nightfalls, they didn't stop people from Soloing them they just made it slightly harder, which is a good challenge.
I don't see a point in picking flaws to a video game that was made by people that may share differing opinions to your own, you don't know what went into the final decision of what should be and not be in the game so you shouldn't be making videos saying the game is broken or should be changed when to a developer its not, in their eye's its going in the direction the wanted, its never perfect and never will be, that's the fault in design, you can always improve.

Its not like this is world of warcraft were you need a tank and a healer or else yoy will die. I know game purists will be mad about the ability to solo, but I think they should leave it in there. Main reason being, not everybody has 5 other people they can get together to run these raids. The penalty for not being able to run it is losing out on the best gear and weapons in the game, plus not being able to fully level up. That's not really fair to those folks ... so if they sat around and figured out how to beat it solo, then they deserve even more props because there's groups of 6 that can't get it done.

Soloing Crota is pretty fun...Being a solo player I take pride in challenging myself and knowing the ways around nightfall and jazz. And yes on all three characters. Here are some tips for ppl who have yet to solo this electric hive master....For hard mode you have to run a sub class that regenerates health. Void walker, hammer, blade dancer. Lanterns...bow, hammers, emperor palpateen. jump on the rock or the thin slit/pilar where the bridge starts. Making way across the bridge is probably the hardest part as you could form the bridge by stepping on and off or you can equip your highest aligility/ height class and jump across swinging away. For ir yut celestial nigh hawk does the trick. hammers and stormcallers are great. For Crota the one thing you need is telesto - it does damage on impact and the delayed void burst give you a chance to get off another shot for constant damage. Make sure to have the larger mag perk as missing a shot can be costly. I'm sure everyone is aware of the right rock strat. thats where you get him to walk, shoot him with telesto pick up the sword and if you time it right by the time you get up there hes about to kneel. I don't like going back to mid/inside so i stay bottom right chamber. regen health and draw the sword...once he starts to make his way back (from walking aorund the stage) kill the sword and repeat telesto strat. I only bring him down once each sword. On the 3rd sword orgers will pop up (2) in the chamber where you were at and the left chamber. if its normal I believe they come mid. MG and nades usually do it for me. note that if you kill them there is a delay for the sword to spawn and if you kill the sword and pick it up theres a chance crota will start moving and your chance to kill him the final third time is gone. its better to kill the ogers let crota walk about and as he gets back. take the sword and telesto... Stick around till endgame/match stats as you can still get a y1 exotic

Definitely more then 5 have soloed the raid on hard. Just not everyone has a TH-cam channel or twitch steam.
Datto, the sword disappears either after 45 seconds without picking it up, or within 30 seconds of picking it up. So you have a total of 15 seconds of time before you can pick up the sword without losing any time. This may help for the bridge encounter.

I remember when you just made videos that shared your strategies. You have a talent for explaining parts of the game to help others improve and succeed. Your recent exotic armor videos were terrific. But this video is just elitist junk. I understand that you're looking for an experience so difficult that only a handful of players can complete. Awesome, and good on you. But "broken"? "Broken" means "unplayable". I don't think that's case here. Are almost all players solo-ing the raid? Of course not. There are things in both raids that need fixing, but not what you think.

J KING Well most of what you said is opinion. CE can be a challenge and at the same time it's real easy. For some people a challenge isn't necessarily fun, so it differs. Stating that everybody thinks CE is broken in this video, I just can't take that seriously. Datto is part of the minority, he has a set raid group who each have their roles and know exactly what to do and even gone to do shotguns only. The rest of us go on lfg when we have the time. For Datto it must be a cake walk but the rest of us know the struggle.

I did the Abyss with defender Titan, Eidolon Ally, and Nova Mortis. I used my magnetic grenade to clear large clusters of enemies (or stick the knights for easy clear), meleed a thrall for overshield with the perk that allows super quick reload and turned and gunned dawn all the thrall, turned out surprisingly well!

!3:20 The real problem IS the sword. A single guardian can deal a lot of damage to crota with it. And then, the raid actually is easier to solo than to do it with a raid group. The bridge takes 5 minutes if you are alone and you dash across the big hole in the centre instead of forming the bridge.
LOL, Datto. You can be on the rock and not die from the lamp explosion. Just sit on the side of the rock opposite the lamp. Also, to get on the rock, I usually jump up the side closer to the lamp and never have a problem.
The easiest way to get pass the thralls on a titan is probably by jumping on the rock closest to the wall at the second lamp, once you're on the rock you can jump onto the wall with increased height. Once you're past that part you can go towards the circle thing that will spawn the bridge. Equip Helmet of Saint-14 and Zhalo supercell + increased duration of ward of dawn. Just stand in your bubble with armour of light and hold down the trigger, the bridge should spawn before your 2nd Ward ends
At the last lamp, the rock closer to where the ogre spawns is easier to jump on (and far enough away from the lamp to not get blown up). Also, a Striker Titan can double jump - shoulder charge from the top of the second lamp to the cliff above (I've found that is easier than trying to do it from the rock).

Great video Datto! This topic has me torn though. Whilst I agree that you shouldn't really be able to solo a raid, I love doing solo speedruns! They are a really cool fun, highly challenging activity that keeps me interested in the game, even though I have kinda seen it all, done it all. It reminds me of doing Dark Souls speed runs and I love it!

Bungie has announced the next expansion after the Comet this fall. This time rather than new areas to explore and new story missions you will get the same ones from a different perspective. You get to play as the aliens that are trying to kill us and start from the Ultra at the end of the level and go to the beginning swapping from one character class to another to place them in strategic locations to kill the guardian(s) as they proceed through the level. To enable this you get four new slots at the character selection screen for the Fallen, Hive, Vex, and Cabal. The reward for leveling up in addition to playing the harder story missions and raids will eventually allow you to do a strike on the tower when you reach Dark level 32 but it is mostly a defensive based style. The twist that is in this expansion is that you are substituting yourself for the game's ai in missions other guardians are doing. The more advanced weapons are being kept under wraps for now but the image for the frenzy claws for Thralls look very promising.
Oh yeah. April fools but it would be a great idea Bungie hint hint nudge nudge wink wink.
I honestly don't think the entire end of the raid needs to be balanced around the gjallarhorn, a weapon that not everyone even has. Making the gjallarhorn weaker would just make everyone rage and making crota stronger would make it only possible with gjallarhorns. I say it's fine as it is, they just should have made it more like VoG where teamwork was required to win. But as far as Crota's End being soloable, I think it's cool given that it's supposed to have an action movie feel to it.
I remember playing Destiny on my PS4 a few years ago. One of my friends told me about how Crota's End Soloing was possible which blew my mind. I then spent the next hour or 2 figuring out how and eventually did it myself. Good times.

I like how you didnt think of switching positions to get onto the rock lol. You can basically jump on it from the lamp-side regardless of how high your Weight of Darkness is.
Advice for jumping on the rock you touch the pad first. then go to the lamp. takes 5-8 darkness b4 getting to 10. going from that lamp just after a sword knight should run to the left path to get to the pad then touch it. and more agility does help along with +2 agilty perk on a shotty.
Datto, I personally believe that bungie created Gjallarhorn to be a trump card vs. bosses. It isn't necessary to nerf it, but maybe make it a hard exotic bounty, something along the lines of the difficulty of thorn mixed with the variety of invective. But that's just my opinion, nice video as always!

I've have only completed the bridge part once and that was because I took out the wizard that spawns in the middle. I would just like an explanation. Thanks guys.
I used Sunbreaker to get up to Crota, and got stuck. I should have switched to defender...thanks for this Datto. Sunbreaker can get a LOT of speed buffs which come in handy.....everywhere lol.

On normal mode, this raid can be done with everything that came from the dark below DLC. the primary can be anything, but a pistol or scout rifle with explosive rounds can really be helpfull. as a special weapon is blackhammer good, but an ice breaker works great as well, even though you need to be a bit more patiente with it and for heavies, either go with hunger of crota or dragonsbreath ( next to the obvious choice of the Gjallarhorn.
The thing with the abyss running part is that doing it all by yourself can actually be easier than doing it with a team as you can choose your own speed. I always tend to go with full agility as a striker and jump up on those lamps and throw grenades or shoot a rocket to get my super energy. so a bad juju is not needed there.
The bridge part can be really annoying for me since for me the sword bearer runs around into some corners and I have to go and look for him if I want his sword, after you come over the brigde you can just camp on the those little pillars right next to the circles on the other sides. the Gate keeper there is no problem no matter if you have a sword or not, because you can actually trick him into suicide by sitting on the ground with your back on a pillar. then just kill the ogres and you are good to go.
For Ir Yut, my tactic is the same as yours. first the right wizard ( because she's the only one that actually goes back into the chambers when you stand somewhere outside). I kill her by sniping her from the boomer spots, then kill her shrieker, go to the next side and do the same. The way I fight Ir Yut is by running into her chamber where she is and jump up to these spots over the spawning doors. believe it or not, this is the saves spot when you want to kill her. Popping a titan bubble is sweet too, but not necessary.
Crota is like how you showed, just with dragons breath and a bit luck from RNG to drop some Heavy ammo. three rockets and the solar grenades get that guy down on his knees..or two rockets and one sticky grenade from a defender. the two saves spots would be down the stairs and that chamber where you later run into when you kill the ogres and the ogre spawn areas themselfs. these are the spots where you litterly can see when a thrall will attack you and when they will back the fuck up.
For warlocks, 4 fusion grenades with burn damage is all they need to bring him down on normal and that is seriously much easier and has better timing windows than the G-horn has.
The biggest flaws of this raid is that none of these tasks require people to splitt up like in the Vault of Glass. Everything is down by being tight together. I think those are simply the flaws of that raid. Everything is based purely on firepower, nothing more. just firepower and that you never have to split up to be able to fullfill a task.
Awesome run DattoDoesDestiny I am able to solo all the way to Crota but have yet to get the timing down to kill him.
I just run icebreaker. Reach the lamp and quickly blow them up using the icebreaker perk. This is extremely helpful with the lightweight perk. Also saint plus armor of light provides a free lamp. When you reach the lamp start punching the thrall. This should get you another super by the next lamp or so.

Icebreaker is very OP for the lamps, u can "firefly" with bodyshots. Also you can outmatch thralls's speed without spend a single skill in agility.

I think the run how it is now is perfectly fine besides a few bugs that hinder your progress in particular the sword falling off the Rock and Crota getting up faster then usual.

is this still possible year 2? I never played with friends back in year 1 and thus never knew about and never did the raids, vault of glass or crota. I wouldn't mind doing it, for my own sake but I just need to know if soloing is possible or do I need friends?
+David Patterson It is possible, but you'll need the right gear, and you should know your way around the perks of all the subclasses.
It's possible and really easy, if you play on PS4 I could do it with you.

Why didnt you use Sanit-14 with spike grenades for the lamps? It literally takes no effort. Ive soloed that part on hard with the setup
I know comment is probably way too late from when video was uploaded but I was trying to look for a way to solo the raid as a titan this helped btw. But this should be handy if you don't yet have the ghallarhorn and soloing the abyss as a warlock is the easiest in my opinion depending on you having don't touch me's on the hunter which I don't. For the abyss your best bet is to use sunsinger and the most important perks are solar grenade and gift of the sun also try to max out armour and recovery unless you're cheesing then you need as much agility as you can and a weapon that has the 2+ agility perk like the vex or icebreaker or swordbreaker or murmur. For a legitimate abyss bad juju is good and hunger of crota when you are in the aoe of the solar and you don't have your super charged, if you do have you super charged DONT WASTE ROCKETS as you will run into times when you need them. You will also need the perk where radiance reduces damage when active meaning you have to sacrifice self res. If you choose legitimate you could wait until your super is charged but if you're doing a speed run you do need at least 1 grenade ready and almost half of your super. Running at the firs lamp don't do anything and run straight for the second lamp and throw a solar grenade down next to the second lamp standing inside the aoe and kill everything following you run for the third lamp activating your super on the way there to have a grenade ready to throw down by the lamp to get rid of weight. This process is rinsed and repeated using your launcher or juju to get the super energy needed. To get on the cheese rock jump up the side closest to the lamp an edge your way to the opposite side so that when the lamp detonates you are not killed. When the ogre arrives kill it immediately, if you have icebreaker or any sniper aim to the left of the second to last lamp ( this is the lamp that is directly opposite the one you are stood next to when you are looking away from the bridge. When you have got rid of the ogre face the bridge wait for the second change in the music after the beat picks up to start running towards the bridge as this is when weight of darkness disappears and the bridge will form as you reach it. When it comes to the deathsinger and crota change the perks on sunsinger so that you have fusion grenades, the Viking funeral perk and the perk that makes your grenades ignite enemies. On the deathsinger, once you can do damage to her activate your super and kill the melee knights preferably before ir yut begins the liturgy, then you are free to kill her. On crota you want to save your super until you pick up the sword and move to your preferred rock on either side. Once getting up drop the sword and activate your super then throw 4 grenades at crota which should bring him down, straight after throwing the 4th grenade pick up the sword and jump up towards crota. You can only do this once but you should melt him in 3 swords meaning you have to do ogres. Once getting the first 3 hits on crota head for underneath the deathsinger chamber or the entrance to this area and stand to the right of the steps where the 2 knights were when you entered. Get to charging your super by killing thralls with bad juju before crota rotates back to the middle and/or the swordbearer comes out. After hitting crota again do the same as before but keep an eye out for when the ogres appear as you should be able to kill crota with the sword after them.

its the striker pulse grenades, as he explained, they creat and area of effect (AOE) of damage, and the enemies are programmed to stay away from these AOE damages, so they ignore him while he is inside the field
Yea had that discussion a few days ago (you should always be able to complete a goal you shouldn't be removed if everyone dies, that's not a recreational game that's work).

I know it's been years and forsaken is about to drop... but I miss being able to solo this raid. Most people love VOG the most but since I was a initially a solo player, I only got to try Crotas End by myself and MAN did i feel like Destiny was huge. I eventually did all the raids and yes, I think VOG is ultimately the best, but this raid is what first got me hooked on raiding
Crota' shield is a regular shield, an ascended vision takes it down in like 15-20 shots. I normally use vision when in a group, to keep the shield from regen cuz gaps in rockets will let it regen.
is it was warlock/solar grenade thing or does stuff just blindly run into aoe things and die after TTK?
Just a suggestion if you use Ice Breaker and Fatebringer in the abyss it is possible to allow the abilities to clear thralls
