- In this video, Kenta Ishizaka from the Yamaha Research & Development division gives an exclusive look into how Yamaha develops innovative guitars using Acoustic Design.
Acoustic Design is a process that utilizes modern technologies to achieve an instrument design with ideal tone, resonance, balance, and feel. The process begins with Acoustic Analysis, which involves scientifically analyzing the resonance characteristics of top-tier guitars. Yamaha then uses a process called modal analysis to reproduce vibrations on a simulated 3D guitar model. This information, combined with Acoustic Analysis results, helps design guitars with ideal acoustic characteristics. Balanced resonance can be achieved across the entire instrument by minimizing the difference in vibration frequencies between the neck and the body. Prototypes are built based on the Acoustic Design results, which are then repeatedly evaluated by artists and Yamaha engineers until the final specifications are decided.

ヤマハが独自の開発プロセス「アコースティック・デザイン」を使用して、どのようにギター開発を進めているか、ヤマハ研究開発部の石坂健太が解説します。
「アコースティック・デザイン」とは、理想的な音色、鳴り、バランス、フィーリングを備えたギターのデザインを実現するために、最新のテクノロジーを駆使するヤマハ独自の開発プロセスです。
まず市場において高く評価されているギターの音響解析を科学的な手法を用いて行います。
次に、モーダル解析と呼ばれるプロセスにより、シミュレーションされた3Dギターモデル上で振動を再現します。
これらの解析やシミュレーションにより、理想的な音響特性を持つギターを設計することが可能となりました。
実際の設計では、こうした情報を参考にしながら、それぞれのモデルにおいて、ギター全体でバランスの取れた響きを得られるよう、ネックとボディの振動を最適化する工夫等をおこないます。
その後、「アコースティック・デザイン」の結果をもとにプロトタイプを製作し、最終的な仕様が決定されるまで、アーティストやヤマハのエンジニアが評価を繰り返し行います。
