I'll never forget when my cellist friend asked me to "just sightread" through the first movement of Mendelssohn's 1st piano trio and then proceed to complain about my rythm while he holds the same note for 4 bars over and over :D
Am I the only one guilty of listening to his story and explanations but my eyes and mind are focused on his face and biceps? I think that was "sight-reading" as well. >_< gotta go practice.
I absolutely love sight reading, I can't believe people dislike it😂👀 If only I had a ton of things to sight read, I would have done it at least an hour every day
Getting to the point, you are doing it WRONG! [Please, don't take this as "hate comment" but rather as a constructive criticism, your videos will be far better when you go straight to the point]. It may help to: 1. Do a short script; 2. Research some ideas in dedicated books ( Piano - Guided Sight-Reading by Leonhard Deutsch, for example, but any other can help) [this point is to avoid saying something obvious or trite]; 3. abridge your main points or tips in bulletpoints and develop them in short fragments of video. Your videos have great potential!!! удачи!!!
This is the only worthwhile comment n the whole thread. 0 helpful information was given, just anectodes and filler. You would have blessed everyone by simply making this 10 minutes shorter. And Leonhard Deutch's book is a good one for those who are interested in sight reading at the piano. Another one is Super Sight Reading Secrets by Howard Richman.
Very educational video! And perfect Italian ;). Looking forward to seeing the basics of sigh-reading and if you have some suggestions for daily practice.
Definitely! There is a lot to cover on this subject so more videos will be on their way soon 😉 Re the Italian- it's just so much fun! Happy you are having fun with me and thanks for watching ✌🏼
Thank you so much for sharing a bit about your life. I love learning how a person has developed as an artist. Also, as an opera singer, I really appreciated you discussing the importance of sight reading. It's crucial when accompanying arias. Finally, do you have a certain edition you prefer when learning a new piece, especially Chopin? Thanks again for your wonderful videos!
Thank you, Evgeny. I value all the aspects you presented. What about the issue of listening to a piece first and then reading it ? This surely is not pure sight reading which people indulging in this, think it is. Not for those with a good ear. Your view, please ?
Haha, "sight reading is not enjoyable, it's not pleasant." I don't think I can disagree with this statement enough. In fact, it's quite the opposite for me. I love sight reading and sometimes tend to sight read at the expense of real, solid practice time. LOL This means that I am a decent sight reader, but it's hard for me to focus on learning a piece fully before I get distracted by new pieces to sight read.
Are there any progressive sight-reading methods you recommend? Cause I really fell for 'just read something every day", and it always stumbled upon me. Ps: really like your channel! Hope to see you playing here in Brazil!
This video was very helpful, thank you! If anyone wants to see another amazing sight-reader, consider looking up a man named Tom Brier. He is a ragtime pianist who is famous for his phenomenal sight-reading and improvisation, and worth watching 100%.

That sound was the dial-up sound! I think we are from the same generation. Hahaha

Very instructive and so funny!
Thank you. Very enlightening. I struggle sight reading due to fear of getting all the mistakes!
Good lesson and pep talk for all musicians!
I don’t struggle with sight reading, but I just wanted to watch this anyway because I enjoy watching your videos!❤️
Very sympathetic and educational video! The perfect mix of humor and competence. Thank you for sharing!🙂👍

"we're just not Sviatoslav Richter" that's a pretty high bar to set, my guy

haha, same here :) So many beautiful things to play, so little time!
Sight-reading is for learning, not for playing

So if it takes me 45 minutes to figure out what a single pitch is I'm not good at sight reading?

And btw, am I the only person here who's jaw is on the floor at how hot Evgeny is? And the accent.... (not a productive comment, I know. But damn.)
No. I am also guilty. My eyes were "sight-reading" his face and biceps the whole time.
huh , and here i am being lazy and learning through synesthesia -_- i've been playing piano for 5-6 years , i haven't even started
That's how I speak Italian too. lol
So fun, isn’t it! 🙈💯
Why do I feel like I'm getting slapped in these tutorials?
can you play that sound by piano?! @1:21
Boomer , haha just kidding 😂 i love your passion.
So funny
Do you give skype lessons?
Gauri Agarwal yes I do! If you would like more info DM me or write me an email ✌🏼🎶🎹
❤👏🎶
Lol....sight reading is like broccoli! We know it’s good for us but dislike the taste!!
