Great info as usual. I must say I am encouraged by your transparency. You don't hide failures or weeds trying to make everyone think you do it all perfectly. None of us are perfect and I get annoyed when people try and deceive others into thinking they are. Genuine and transparent , that is what makes a very respectable person.
I took some cuttings from an evergreen azalea that didnt get watered through our PNW heatwave last year (3 days of 110 ish) and it looked pretty bad this spring like totally dead, I pruned it I'd say medium (not to the ground) pre frost and it popped back. Took cuttings recently, crazy success rate. 12/12 in each tray, 4 trays worth with little covers to keep them humid. About 2-1-1 perlite-vermiculite-shredded bark. I also wanted to say thanks again for the amazing videos, I'm rocking some crazy stuff on my propgating bench now!! Wisteria, azalea, lonicera ciliosa and japonica, fuschia, himilayan clematis, purple clematis, pinus, forsythia. I cant believe how well using leftover opaque Walmart or fred Meyers bags over pots with a rubber band works, keep it wet and look for those tiny humidity bubbles. Serious top shelf. It's about 95 and I have all my stuff in the shade and we're thriving. this channel saved my life dude no joke. I ask neighbors all the time and kick them a couple rooted cuttings after. Living the dream
I thought I just tell you that for my five gallon pots I use cut down 5 gallon containers which I get loads of for free from car wash places around where I live . I cut the top off drill five or six 1/2 " holes and there you go. They don't go brittle like a lot of the pots on the market in the UK. I also drill through and add a piece of rope in one corner to help when picking them up Brilliant video as always Mr k

Just offered some starts to a friend who loves the invasive white Alimeria that I started and she was so worried about disappointing me if they didn't thrive, so I asked her for a favor to drive me to garden club meeting so I could cut some for her that day but hope she loves them as much at her house next spring when they should start spreading.
My sil dropped my bougainvillea and broke it all to bits .I was so disgusted I just stuck the pieces into the pot and watered the heck out of it it’s doing wonderful thanks for. All the info you pass on and encouragement you pass on .thank you thank you thank you

My first time trying propagation was from a rhododendron that I had cut back and tossed in the bushes. It sat there for probably 2 months and thats when I came across your channel. I went out and took it from the bushes and got about 80 cuttings. I put them in clear storage totes in a Peet and perlite mix and stored them in my dining room throughout the winter. I had no rooting hormone by spring most didn't make it. Fast forward 2 1/2 years later i have about 8 cuttings alive and growing like crazy and still in those darn totes just sitting on my deck begging to be planted.
I tell myself that every time I walk by them. Would it be fine to disturb them mid summer or would it be better to just add some medium under them until the fall? I was thinking about gently removing them from the tote and filling it since it's settled to maybe 1/3 (maybe 6") of peet and then placing them back in the tote as is.

Hey Mike, I'm a fan from the NW. Just outside of Portland. I've been enjoying your videos. Especially the ones about figs and fruit. There is a fruit bush that you might get a kick out of. The Feijoa sellowiana or pineapple guava. I guess some of the varieties are cold hardy and will grow in our area. The fruit gets to be about the size of a jumbo egg and are very tropical flavored and are supposed to be very fragrant. I just bought a small bush from someone in the area. It's only about a foot and a half tall and already had about a dozen blooms. Can't wait to try them. check it out if you get a chance
I've played around with it a little but it's really not a rooting hormone. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, which buy the cutting time to root but it doesn't contain rooting hormone.

Ground layering had more success, but still limited. Neither of these help though if you are moving. I appreciate you, brother! You have plans to do one in this series on non-fig hardwood cuttings? I can't get rid of black spot on my roses. Doesn't seem to matter where I buy the ant or where I ant them. It comes in with new healthy green leaves then turns to crap black spotted leaves. From: Graham WA help

As my climate its too hot where I stay . thanks
I have mine facing east to west so the sun hits the side of it all day. Some people like north to south so that the sun hits both sides. I don't think it matters much as long as the cuttings are shaded. Yes, in your hot climate you can use shade cloth to cover your greenhouse. I use a white plastic that blocks 50% of the sun.
I'm planning on moving in the next 6 months, going from the pnw to the south. I've got these 2 really old rose plants, like 75 years old, theyre a gift from a pair of WWII veterans. I'm not sure they're gonna make the move. My other neighbor flat cropped them 3 years ago (long story) and they've been struggling ever since. I have an amazing amount of blossoms this year but I've been battling aphids and fungus all year. I really wanna grow some cuttings in case they can't handle the climate switch. Should I still try cuttings or should I prune them back and pray they make the move?
Ooooh, that's a pretty one. I just found a website that's selling them heirloomroses.com You can plant a rose now and still have plenty of warm months to get them established. You will have to mulch well and keep watered though. I wouldn't take a new potted rose from a shaded greenhouse and plant out into full sun right now, it's just too hot for that and the rose wouldn't do well.
Can you propagate a peony from a cutting? I got a peony last year live it so much I'd love more.. However I don't know the specific variety and want more.

I tried to root cutting from a sick rose plant coz I wanted to give the plant to survive. Sadly, didn't give positive outcome 🥲. So from that sad experience, I don't want to do anymore propagate cuttings from sick plants 😅 but I will try my best to fix the plants back to health 💪🏻. However, getting cuttings from florists is different story as I don't know what is the condition of the main plants (I have to get cuttings from florists as that is my best option from where I live).

Hey Mike, watched a video on Hortube with Jim Putnam. He takes the branch puts it over a pot with growing medium, put a brick on the branch and they put out roots. Did it with a hydrangea and a couple of other varieties. Have you ever done that method?
Yes, it's called layering and works the same way if the plant is in soil. I did tip rooting with blackberry a few years ago, which is similar but a little different.
Yeah they'll get better it's I said root bound and you say they needed bigger pots The Roots won't get anywhere they were getting struggling and hard to go good looking plants though they'll be healthy before you know it

You hit the nail on the head on this one. Of course you can take the cuttings but that’s the easy part. It always comes down to if they will root!

Are you using a fungicide? You're only 30 minutes from me so I know you are in a good climate for this.

I'd wait until they go dormant this winter, prune them back to about 18 inches, and dig up the roses with a nice root ball.

If that's your only option then you'll have to make do with what you have. It's always better to use material that is healthy.
