Marina Satti’s “Mantissa” is an adaptation from and old traditional song from northeast Greece Epirus. It is actually a folk song.

This song was huge in Greece ! It makes sense the sound is strange to you . Even though I would still call it a modern pop song the sound of it is basically traditional music of Thrace which is a region in northern Greece near Turkey . The video as well wasn’t meant to be or look pro, just very casual and urban vibe I guess

All the walking was at the backstreets of downtown Athens, she used an "amateur" type of video to keep a Girlz 'n the Hood vibe but the reactions behind her were real people opening their shops were so stunned that were just watching like statues! Imagine that in all the streets they were passing the "block's" road on the other side was on some touristy populated street in normal and rush hours, half dancers were pro and half just friends and they chose not to coordinate choreography to get a flash mob feeling! Music is hard to follow as the sound of its folk part is so strange to your ears to really dig into what she did fusing it with modern sound, imagine old folk songs in USA made to a pop/hip-hop sound

This street is in Athens. It is considered a bad-reputation street from locals (or should I say racists? whatever) because it is being called "dangerous" for many reasons etc. (which actually isn' t true) so the idea behind it is "girls dancing freely without fear of somebody or something" Marina has stated in an interview that she thinks it's very important that women can do that nowadays and that people really have the power to go to a place with bad reputation and manage to change the mood by just dancing! I should also mention that all these people watching them dancing are not extras, they are people living their life and didn't know what that was all about. I think it adds to the whole concept. I find it very interesting.

It's the sound of the aulos pronounced avlos. Also an extension of that instrument is the ASKOMANTOURA / TSAMBOUNA.
There is a remix of this song for club music also using traditional Lyra sound: th-cam.com/video/5tiFArGZr3c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_TwJc2nXQPO5skhc

I recommend you to listen to the song "Pali" by Marina Satti th-cam.com/video/g57vTiItCWA/w-d-xo.html. It still has some old traditional greek music at its backbone called "Balos" from the aegean islands of Greece, but because of all the conteporary urban musical elements in it, it'll feel like smooth hip hop. It is very chill and ethereal. I think you'll like it. It has an amazing music video.
