I've watched 7 videos on how +40 would look on ky 05 maxima. You're the ONLY video that explains it AND SHOWS it fully with unquestionable detail. Tha ks!!!!
Agreed! I'm a simple fella, I needed a simple explanation. Got it now. The last horse finally crossed the finish line 🙄. Now I can make inroads into selecting the right wheels.
Hands down best explanation of offset and backspacing I've seen! Showing the car up on the lift to demonstrate why backspacing is critical was spot on.
All of the people commenting that do not understand, couldn't figure out simple elementary algebra word problems... Great video Cj Pony Parts. Helped me out a ton. Getting new wheels this week!
Freddy CJPP so what if i have clearance issue? can i buy spacers to correct it? the wheel currently rubs my dust cover on the inside of my front wheel when ever i hard turn what should i do?
Is it rubbing the metal dusk shield behind the brake rotor? Or the wheel well/fender liner? A wheel spacer can fix some issues, but can also create others.
Freddy CJPP the fender liners, when i turns hard left or right, it rubs on to it. however i dont know how to find out what width of spacer should i be using
If it's hitting the fender liner it sounds like you might have too large tire diameter. Get the car up in the air and turn the wheels full lock in each direction and look at the room you have, you can experiment with putting washers on the studs to act as spacers then putting the wheel on and see what your clearance is like. If/when you find a good fit measure the thickness of washers. You may need to get longer wheel studs as well when you get spacers.
I have been looking for deep explanation about offset since offset is the only thing i don't get about rims but most videos out there even in my own language (im Malaysian) are not very helpful but this video explained very well.. very helpful and informative.. thumbs up 👍👍👍
great explanation… other videos used complex terms which to somebody who dosent know shit sounds like gibberish.. i fully understood that and helped me find the right wheels
I'm watching this 6yrs later and you just helped me out so much. I'm looking for Rims in the near future for my Q50S and now understanding this will help me out alot. Where are you located?
if you have a 17x7 wheel with say... 40et offset and wanted to go to a wider wheel. go with 17x8 at 30-35et 17x9 20-30et. roughly this will allow the wheel to stay positioned correctly to avoid contacting the suspension. although the wider you go the more poke will stick out the fender. each car has its limits with wheel size. usually when you push the limits you run into fitment problems, heavy wheels, extra stress on the suspension and brakes.
Good video well explained. Now can you please tell me what offset is needed when you fit a bigger wheel. I have a Nissan RPS13 and OEM offset was +45 on a 15" wheel. I now have an 18" wheel with +45 offset. This is probably incorrect im thinking for tyre scrub
Thank you so much for this video. Helped me understand a lot about offset. I recently bought 2018 VW GTI autobann with 18*7.5 rims on 225/40R/18 summer tires with 49mm offset. I have a set of old 2014 Jetta winters tires sitting around which are 17*7 on 225/45R/17 with offset of 54mm... not sure if these will fit without rubbing any suspension/brakes etc? Any help will be appreciated :)
Not really. The whole wheel and tire world is used to measure wheel/rim diameter and width in inches. And so it will be in the future too. Offset/ET however is measured in mm because it is easier to relate to when designing a car, and calculating track width and so on.
@5:01 if it was negative offset, than the backspace measurement would be less than 4,5 inch wich is a half of wheel width. When you substract a 4,5 from
Great explanation my man, people get confused with the whole positive, negative OS because in their mind it's backwards. Just the way the brain works.🤔
Thanks for the great explanation. I guess, if I follow the car manufacturer's (Toyota in my case) recommendation for a Corolla wheel/tire upsize, then I should not run into clearance issues?
Hi, That's a good lesson. However i need some advice" i have a bmw 328xi 2007 3.0 E90 i want to put 20"concave rims. Can you please tell me if i can and if I will need spacers!
I have a 2018 GMC 1500 truck i bought a set replica wheels in size 26 inch. I want to use a 305/30/26 tire my wheels are 26x10 with a 25mm offset. I'm wondering will they rub because I don't want to lift are drop my truck at all?
I wish i can get you to help me find what's the best Offset for 2013 chrysler 300 AWD 🙏 looking to do staggered wheels safely 20x9 front and 20x10.5 rear,on the other I've learned more about Offset I'll be doing some measuring asap Thanks
I’m about to purchase black rhino Armory 17x9.5 MY question and concern by Changing wheel from 17x8.5 to 17x9.5 the backspace on the new wheel is 5.3Inch compared to the old 5.0 Inch , Would the new wheels touch the lift knuckles ( spindles ) ? With that New wheel ?
Great video! some extra points the positive offset may seem like the bearing are offset as well but as is the case of the e36 m3 the position of the bearing in the hub ends being center line with the rim even with stock rim off set.
i always wondered why rim specs for 0 degree offset wheels have a backspace which is greater than 1/2 wheel width . I assume it must be due to the addition of the bead of wheel. i.e. 16x8 wheel with 0 degree offset has backspace that is 4.5"
I can fit +35 on the rear of my car without issue. But the spokes of the wheel hit the caliper on the front. Is that an offset problem? Or backspacing?
Hi, thanks and very informative. I would like to check my ride is a peugeot 207 cc with wheel 16” specs of offset 27, center bore 65.1. I am planning to upgrade to 7x17 offset 42. Can you give me idea if this is a safe size or should be the 7x17 offset 20. Thanks
Usually just industry standard quirks that solidified over time kinda like how the number of hotdogs in a pack never match up with the number of hotdog buns in a pack. It's just some historical nonsense.

@Giovanni Joey I think that you may just be on the worn channel.
THE best and most concise explanation of this concept that I've seen on TH-cam. Great job, and thank you!
You Sir ,are a gentleman . You explained this so well that I now understand . I think you

Honestly, best video that has explained & displayed "offset" for me.

Great explanation! Simple, clear, and precise without any crazy background music or B.S.
Best explaination on Backspacing and Offset on TH-cam.
AzraelPercussionNEO lol
BEST video online for wheel measurement! Now we need one this clear to measure the car itself
hard to find this type of clear concise education in these youtube streets. thanks
Hands down one of the best summation’s for wheel guide fitment 🏆🏆🏆
i lost you after you said hello

Lmao right
You should get a different internet provider. 😐
Funny thing is he didnt even say hello...he said hey 😂😂😂
Excellent job of explaining offset and backspacing. Thank you for going slow and making it understandable.
Watched 3 other videos on this topic. Glad I finally got to this one! Don't need anymore. Best explanation!!
So in other words go to a tire shop and order the rims with their help? Ok got it
Lol...yep or buy wrong damn rim
Very nice, crystal clear explained. Thanks.
Came here to learn, left with more questions
What questions do you have?

The back spacing example was so easy to understand.
Thank you!
I can watch this all day
Ok so I'll remember CJ Pony Parts look for this man on the video and ask for help, easy.
I have been looking for deep explanation about offset since offset is the only thing i don't get about rims but most videos out there even in my own language (im Malaysian) are not very helpful but this video explained very well.. very helpful and informative.. thumbs up 👍👍👍
I have gone through other explainers but this was truly the best. I have understood offset & backspacing perfectly. Thank you so much 🔥🔥🔥
at 5:37 he demonstrated really well what I was trying to find out. Thanks
Exactly, Thank you sir lol
Excellent and very clear instructions, hands on demonstration with the wheel really helped as well as concise info so it wasn't over my head
This is the best on this topic. Absolute best.
this video makers people think and too many viewers hate that : ) , great presentation, thanks
Excellent class Bro, for those who did not understand, forget it and use Uber
Thanks, the best explanation of wheel offset I have ever seen.
Excellent information and clearly explaining the whole process, easy to understand....thanks & cheers from Australia👍🍻
This was amazing! Especially the last minute or so! Thanks
great explanation… other videos used complex terms which to somebody who dosent know shit sounds like gibberish.. i fully understood that and helped me find the right wheels
Excellent video. Very well done. I will be shopping with you guys.
Best explanation I've ever heard!
I still found it a bit confusing, but know more now than I did before, so thank you for that.
I'm watching this 6yrs later and you just helped me out so much. I'm looking for Rims in the near future for my Q50S and now understanding this will help me out alot. Where are you located?
Very clear explanation. Thanks. I was always confused and not sure what it really meant. I had some clue but not a clear understanding.
best explanation. no one close to it.
This was the best explanation video by far TY
very clear explanation
Thank you 👍👍👍
Best explanation in a video ive seen all year great job and thank you
Very well done and informative, I sold tires and wheels for years. Another topic can be the calculation for overall diameter of tire and wheel. 👍🏽

Check out the 17x12 i put on my P71, 84lbs of rotational mass..lol The added weight of widened steel wheels is real..
executed perfectly. The cardboard trick was helpful!
Great video and very simple to understand. Thank u for clarifying it all.
Damn, this shit was confusing lol.
Yur just fucking stupid that's all bro.

Very thorough explanation. Thank you.
Brilliant class!!! Well done and easy to follow!!! Thanks!!!
Great video explained a lot. Looking into aftermarket wheels and tires. I learned a lot from your video.
Glad it was helpful!
does anyone have a video on the pros/ cons, handling and wear characteristics on bearings/suspension parts when changing +/- from a oem offset?
It's kinda nuts how some measurements are metric and others are SAE don't ya think. Nutty industry indeed. No pun intended.
Yeah i agree, SAE needs to be done with, metric all the way!
Not really. The whole wheel and tire world is used to measure wheel/rim diameter and width in inches. And so it will be in the future too. Offset/ET however is measured in mm because it is easier to relate to when designing a car, and calculating track width and so on.
totally agree, but “how fast is your car in the .402 kilometer?” just doesn’t have same ring to it
@@bradhoward7565 In the metric world we just say "400m" instead of "quarter mile"
Thank you! That was the best explanation ever
VERY WELL EXPLAINED 👍
All those words and numbers on the back side of the legs will also give all the info about the wheel, offset included.
@5:01 if it was negative offset, than the backspace measurement would be less than 4,5 inch wich is a half of wheel width. When you substract a 4,5 from

Please explain which offset causes the wheel to protrude further from the wheel well +45 or +48

best explanation ever!
Hi CJPP!! What is the minimum and maximum of back spacing a Focus ST have? Thanks! Very informative video!!! Keep it up!!
what effects does changing the offset positive or negative in regards to load bearing, wheel bearings, wear and tear, alignment?

Excellent video! This explains a lot
Thank you sir, greetings from Dubai
Clear and simple Thank You
how do you find which offset and backspacing is appropriate for your car?
Very good explanation. Thanks for this.
Glad it was helpful!
What I'm going to do is measure the stock tire on my GT350 and match as close as I can with a 20in rim and all season tires. Thanks for the video.
What kind of rims are these they look dope.
Great video and very detailed. Thanks CJP!
Now we need someone to check every single wheel in existence to see which one's will fit over BBKs.
