    Nice to watch your video of my home town. I'm a joiner, and went to the joinery in the woods that you mentioned. Was it called Sheridan's? I believe it's been closed for a few years now

    I love the driving tours. It would be awesome if you could find the bronze statue or what collection it completed. Its cool to see how everyone moves so smooth thru the "roundabouts". I went thru one in Pinehurst, NC with my brother & sister and we sat behind traffic for 10 min....it "befuddled" everyone! Next time you visit we need to visit the eastern part of NC. Pinehurst is a beautiful area and near my family.

    5:09 cream building on the right is my old flat. Top part of building at the front. The window opened wide so I could use the roof of the extension as a patio. That was in 1999.

    Thanks for sharing Rich. Reminded me of the driving I had to do in Ireland, left hand side I mean. We had so many roundabouts in Ireland, I noticed a couple here. Is that an Ireland thing or is it used everywhere? We do have some but not very many.

      Allen Oxendine We have bloody loads of the dam things! in Swindon they have what is called a magic round about.. it has one big round about in the middle and 5 around the outside.. its a joke!

    Thomas Lewis way is older than 15 years, I think 1990/91? I can remember the construction from the train passing it back then.

      Rich cove No worries I have been working in the city since 1994 and lived in Bitterne in 1996,Then Eastleigh between 98 and 2004 and now Hill lane since 2004. I think they change a lot in 1988/89 and I remember seeing the work around then but 1992 it was up when I did a local train from Salisbuy and back via Eastleigh and noted the road was fairly new then.

    • @BartTibia
      @BartTibia 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was opened in 1989 as A335 Portswood. It was originally meant to be the M272 motorway that would have gone underground in Bevois and finished at the Avenue. But only half of the M271 was constructed and M272 was fully scrapped in 1988 and was built as a single carriageway (which makes the passing of the police vehicle on the video very weird) instead.
      Hence why the road is digged up and why the Thomas Lewis Way dips very heavily towards Bevois, but all the digging turned out to be fairly useless.

    Another good video. TH-cam only munged up the last few minutes, but before that it looked really excellent. So this was a great job and good explanation of the squiggly lines. I still get scared in places when you are driving. Like the van that was parked on your side facing you and you looked to be running headlong into it! ;-) You Brits really need to correct our driving. We can help you make it right again.

    • @Richcovephoto
      @Richcovephoto  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Danny Fyffe LOL... There are lots of accidents in the UK as we cross each others paths alot. and is narrow in places.. Glad you enjoyed watching it.

      Yes, the Merchant Navy hotel used to be a good stopover for us seafarers and very reasonably priced too. Basic facilities like a bar and restaurant. The rooms were quite small but adequate if you just wanted a lie down for a few nights. I got a shock when it became a proper hotel and was charged 110 pounds for the same room for one night. Nothing had changed in way of facilities.

      Rich cove "The approach to, and exit from, a pedestrian crossing is marked with zigzag lines. It also means that you must not park on them or overtake the leading vehicle when approaching the crossing. Parking here would block the view for pedestrians and the approaching traffic.".....both right 😉

      It would have been around 1938. We were on the steps by the boat yard the big boys were diving in and I was accidentally knocked in I recall sitting on the bottom luckily my brother Maurice 6 years my senior dived in and saved me He sent me home to Ivy Road in my wet clothes. I eventually learned to swim in the 3 foot end of Southampton Lido
