I agree with the likeness of a drawing, and interpreting what you perceive the drawing to be. It's sometimes hard giving an actual likeness of someone due to this reason.

Thank you ! No, I didn't use measurement for the eye. This is why I got it wrong the first time. There is no trick or measuring tool accurate enough... you have to look for mistakes and go back on forth between the model and your drawing.

Perfect facial symmetry is a indicator of beauty. Most faces are not perfectly symmetrical though. Should I strive for perfect symmetry, or make each side slightly different. Hope this makes sense. Thanks.
Good question, but I think you kinda answered it. No one is perfectly symmetrical. Loosen up a little and go with what feels right in the moment. I feel 3/4 view kinda takes some of this worry out of it too.

Do you blend with your fingers/kneaded eraser at all? Or do you just put strokes over other strokes? I can never make it as smooth as yours.
imagine the pencil or charcoal dry media like this powder like substance and in order to smooth it out you use your finger to smudge this powder substance to smooth it out, use the pencil to start shading it back and forth gently till you cant see the stroke, or use a tissue to rub the area you wish to blend.
Even when shading is curved do you not draw curved lines? I struggle very much with this and i never get it right, thanks
No, you have to keep everything as geometric as possible for as long as possible. The curve is only done by polihing angles between two straight lines basically...

What if the whole face is shorter than it should be? Should I erase the chin? What if I have drawn all the features then I discover it? Do I have to erase every feature or draw a new one? One more question. Do you check the proportion by experience? Or you use some tools? My greatest problem is getting the proportion of the face right at the beginning!

As you can see, I spend a lot of time checking my proportions at the beginning so that I avoid to find something is wrong later on. Sometimes it can be repaired, sometimes it can't. Take a lot of time checking at the beginning : hold your pencil in front of you. If you want you can use other types of measuring tools. With times, your eyes will see proportions better.

Is that long handled tool a regular brush or foam like for pastels?
It's what's called a "shaper brush" www.geant-beaux-arts.fr/pinceau-colour-shaper-daler-rowney.html
It's some kind of piece of foam or plastic.
What type of charcoal are you using? No matter how sharp I get mine, the end result looks like a 5-year-old's crayons. Also, where do you get your reference?
What was it that you used to smudge the charcoal that made a squeaky noise. I am from South Africa and some art things are not as common here...

No it's watercolor paper colored with sepia ink mixed with water.

I wanted to know how different is the ink wash with a water colour wash. Have tried to wash the sheet with both earlier but the couldn't make the layer count(maybe my inexperience with the technique there).

Nice work from you, please look at the nose and the mouth, they are not correct!
He pretty much said "it's not about copying exactly, though I do take issue with that a little because his interpretation is more or less copying a photo with a physical medium. The 'not copying' part ought to be expressive rather than observable inaccuracy. To my mind this is the whole issue with copying from photos or striving for photographic facsimile as is the case with this artist. - ie. he's making a rod for his own back. However, there is a lot to learn here for the aspiring artist who wants to copy from photos.
your method is like drawing in graphite.there are other methods so much less detailed into drawing.they just use shadows first values and then detail.you are faking the background with ink.it is another method, but too elaborated I do not see it as 100 percent charcoal.
