Of course I didn't know there was a whole MUSIC video to the song as well! 🤦♂😆 I just realized while posting, at this point I need to watch a Billie documentary to truly get up to speed.
Crazy thing about this song? Billie really had a dream that she took her own life and nobody cared. The song also took over a year to finish/write. They put it away for a while. It was written during a tough time for her. While she was battling depression. From an article on Billboard In late 2019, Billie Eilish unveiled “everything i wanted,” her tribute to her brother Finneas. The tune features sweet lyrics in the chorus, “As long as I’m here / No one can hurt you,” but in a New York Times profile, Billie admits that the song wasn’t always so reassuring. Eilish got inspiration for the song a year prior, when she had a dream about taking her own life. When she took the idea to her brother, he became uncomfortable with the worrying topic. “We had this big argument,” she told the publication, “Because I admitted something that I was, uh. It wasn’t a physical thing I was admitting. I don’t know how to put it without actually saying it, and I don’t want to actually say it. But it was me admitting to something that was very serious about my depression. A very serious step that I was admitting that I was planning on taking. And Finneas said, I don’t want to write a song about you killing yourself and how that’s everything you wanted!” Finneas, who was also present during the interview, gave his perspective on the troubling situation. “It was a period where I was really worried about my sister, and I felt like an enabler in helping her write a song as bleak as that song was,” he said. “Like the musical equivalent of giving an alcoholic another beer: ‘I’m not going to support this.’ A lot of songs are written in retrospect, but this one felt like it was being written in real time, and I was like: ‘This is something we’ve got to write on the other side of this hill. We have to go through this in real life. You can’t always solve your problems in a song.’ The article also touched on Eilish’s longtime depression, which sparked when she ruptured the growth plate in her hip and was forced to quit dancing, an activity she wholeheartedly enjoyed. When she achieved fame, she felt a bit ill-equipped to deal with the negative sides of it. “I had to quit the choir, and I lost all my friends, then I didn’t want to do drugs, and I lost all my other friends because they did,” she explained. “Then I had kind of no one.” When the sibling duo revisited “everything i wanted” a year later, Eilish approached it with a different perspective. “My argument, which I think was the thing that made my mom and Finneas finally go, ‘Oh, OK,’ is I said: ‘This song is the way I can feel these things without doing something to myself.'” “Finneas and I both had the idea to make the song about each other, instead of just me and how I was feeling,” she continued, which is made evident in the song, where lyrics like “Thought I could fly / So I stepped off the Golden” are met with countered camaraderie such as, “But when I wake up, I see / You with me.” “We had a complete block,” she said. “and the way we got through it was to make it about us as siblings and what we mean to each other.”
@@akaLids77 Wow! I’m glad Finneas intervened so we could have this version. He’s a great brother. I know there’s a lot of people on Earth who’s had thought of ending it all, but songs like this help uplift. I see how it could have enabled her to continue spiraling deeper on the path of depression. Can’t imagine how hard it was for her having to deal with being so different & losing your passion/dream because it’s completely out of your control. From everything I’ve read & heard about her mom and Finneas, sounds like she has a strong family and support system. That’s so paramount to success. Billie is one of my favorite artist not only because of her music, but also her personality, back story & dedication behind her craft which I can hear in the music and see in the music videos
@@kjballinout Yes sir! I'm a dude in my 40's and i'm a HUGE billie fan. I've seen her live 3 times over the past 3 years. I have videos on my page that I recorded at the shows i've been to. I became a fan after learning more about her and watching the documentary about her too. I'm a certified superfan now.
Yes, I’ve watched a couple of your vids. I subbed to you a couple months ago, you’ve been here since I learned who Billie was. I really appreciate you! If she ends up coming to FL I’m 100% going to go see her. Which documentary should I start with? I see one on her page, the Apple versions and a couple others
@ You never told me to, but I remember taking a look at your channel back then 😂 In my mind I was like that’s so cool, because most people don’t have live videos let alone a variety of them 🔥
This song hits my brother and I sing this on the top of our lungs when we’re together he saved me as well I was 15 when he was born the sameday I was gonna take my life and because of him I’m still alive I’m 25 now and yes still going through it but I’m happier then I was back then so this song means a lot to my brother and I
@@JennYe-y2f Thanks for watching & will check it out. She’s one of the few artist who actually have a personality. I’ve watched her funny moments, chicken shop date & phonin it in. Definitely going to check out the Vanity fair!
you should definitely react to Billie's live performance. It's best to take a look at the Tiny Desk. it's her voice as raw as possible. I just love them (I'm 51 years old.🙈) I'll see them live four times next year, my children got me a ticket for each concert here in Germany, even though I had already bought a ticket myself 😅. And I'm going to Finneas on April 29th too. I hope you enjoy the trip with Billie. Thanks for the great response (sorry my written English isn't that good, I'm from Germany)
