way to push yourself to the limit. Redlining the fitness requires determination and grit. You paced it pretty well and could sense a "fade" by knowing your effort around 1/2 way. Last year in Buffalo I had the same sensation and just slowed down knowing it wasn't my day. I have also pushed through and faded in the last 5k-10k (slight wall). I think the more we race, the better we get at nailing the effort required for the distance

@@MidLifeRunner Yeah totally- as I said, I feel like a more experienced runner after that. All about learning your body and knowing how far we can push it. Thanks for watching- when’s your next A race? From memory you’re going for somewhere around 2:50?

@@jimmyrunsoz in two weeks . Got a bout of shin splints so I’m taking it easy for the taper. Don’t know how it will all translate on race day. I’m going to run by feel, try to settle in mile 7-17 after the first 10k because that’s where there is most of the elevation. And whatever feels good on pace from 7-17, I think I’m going to try and hold until the end. I’m betting somewhere between 2;50 and 3:00 is my best guess. But who knows with the marathon . 💪🏼

Basically dead means you put in a shift 😂 didn’t sound too dissimilar to me blowing up (finding the limit) in a marathon I did in training to see what it feels like (hint - 8km of hell!). That experience will set you up well for the next one and you’ll be crushing the time. Informative and entertaining. Great effort Jimmy 👍🏻

@@kinghuthegreat Thanks mate. Yep we learn a lot from these experiences - very thankful for it although once is enough! Certainly don’t plan on repeating it :-)

I had a similar experience on my last marathon. After only 17 km my quads already was hurting, never had that in training the last 10 km it was like I was in a trance and 50 m. before the finish I began to zig zag and body just completely shut down and I couldn't go any further. Not sure what went wrong felt like I fueled and drank what I planned. But this was my first marathon and maybe I need more energy than average. Think I had about 6 gels and had energy drinks.

@@Nyelands brutal! Yeah I saw a few guys doing the zig zag - crazy! Congrats on your first marathon and I hope future ones aren’t as painful!
