Love tomcat. and this probably one of the best brickmania kits out there. I am really happy they decided to release instructions so now we all have a chance to build one. Okay Shy.... now waiting on that F/A- 18 model being build next.

This was a fun, but frustrating, build. The area above the main gear where the wings attach is somewhat fragile. Had it come apart several time, but it is still interesting technique to make the wings sweep.
Someone did warn me about that as I was building it... so I used supports to hold the wings up until I had it in place.. still it did break off a few times. But that’s the sacrifice sometimes to make look actuate.
Man that's a beautiful Tomcat. I love the moving wing function. I like the way it overhangs from the stand, a bit dangerous if you're clumsy like me and accidentally bump it. 🤣
This looks really worth the money to bricklink it. Will definitely try to pick up one of the jets.
Also don’t hesitate to promote the podcast once in a while it’s really good.

I have just gotten the brick mania instructions for the F 14 since it is my favorite yet and I finished building it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of top gun or fight or just in general. I have bought Mania fighter jets before from the boxes and it is nicer to not have to do as much work but the work is worth it for the jet this chat goes above and beyond even for a brick mania standard
I’m thinking of getting the P-51. I hope they make a pilot fig for it soon!

The Tomcat is awesome! There's a real one at a air museum by my house. It would be pretty cool to build one to take pictures of next to it.

What’s funny is I completely understand that whole technical talk on the aircraft, but the F-14 is definitely a cool aircraft that I love to see, and are you thinking of getting the Brick Designers printed add ins for the F-14?

Very cool! Cody has to be one of the most skilled aircraft MOC builders out there. I bought two of the Cold War Era pilots and F-14 Tomcat sticker sheet (I already have the Phoenix Missiles add-on pack from way back when).
I do plan to get the instructions and the BrickLink the parts one day but it'll have to wait until I have some actual free time.

There was a time when this would have impressed me, but now that Cobi makes gorgeous military jets (I have the F14, among others), I don't feel it's worth it.

After seeing this, Im contemplating getting the f-35B. I’ve been wanting a jet from them for quite some time but never have been able to afford it. So now might be a good time too

Yup built this last week didn’t get the sticker pack and missing the pilots but I’m just waiting for BrickDesigners printed tile packs to fully complete it

Nice this was one of those kits I regret not getting. I usually try and get new trans pieces if buying both new and used as they can be pretty bad depending on type and age. Mechanizedbrick s F14 has a similar issue with the wing breaking.
Now you have the opportunity to get it again without having to break and arm and a leg. Just an arm. Lol

I finished the Tomcat yesterday - pretty sure I’ll modify the design to strengthen it, credit to Cody for the look of the plane, but that wing box design is a travesty - the structure is so weak it’s downright fiddly, and I already had to make changes so it won’t break so easily. Did you modify the missile designs so they won’t fall apart on you easily?

That's a great review, one thing you said its vfa-103 in the time of the f14 it was called vf-84 and when they switched to the fa-18 they renamed it vfa-103
Lol thanks. Check out the Brick Veteran F/18 VFA 103 video I did a week or so after this one… I made that distinction there. Haha I didn’t notice the mishap until I already posted the video. By that time. It was too late haha .
I ordered a kit from Omaha bricks (the t-26) and the set description says it has 502 parts but when I copied the List and found sellers it said I only had 486/486 of the parts. I’m new to bricklink and was wondering if maybe I’m missing something?
An odd correction I also provided to BKM that prompted them to change the description for their Cold War Fighter Pilot;
The squadron depicted on this F-14 is VF-84 Jolly Rogers who were decommissioned after Desert Storm during the Cold War draw down where roughly half of all F-14 squadrons were disestablished. The Jolly Rogers lineage continued through VF-103 who were formerly the Sluggers. The “Strike Fighter” mantra for the squadrons is exclusively used by F/A-18 and F-35C squadrons so of this jet was depicting a 103 jet, it would be Fighter Squadron 103 however it is intended to depict one of the jets from The Final Countdown, in which the squadron is VF-84 or Fighter Squadron 84 which unfortunately no longer exists. Another reason we can make this conclusion is the helmets used by the pilots. They’re intended to be HGU-33s, issued to Tomcat pilots through the late 70s-late 80s and were only used by the Jolly Rogers when they were still VF-84. VF-103 took over the Jolly Rogers mantra long after transitioning to the HGU-55/68 setup which is a less bulky helmet missing the visor casing on the forehead.
It’s the dumbest little detail ever and I’m like the only one who would notice but I have no impulse control so I had to comment lol. I dig the reviews bro, keep it up.
Another side note: you have the AIM-54s displayed farther back than they would be. They should be up to the front of the mounts, just behind the fairings.
Im really looking into getting this but i dont see pilot anywhere to buy any ideas where i can get them and for future sets if i decide i would really appreciate it

It depends on what’s currently avail on bricklink. I’ve seen it as cheap as $200 to to over $400.

Shy after having the f14 for around a month I know the hardest part of this video is holding the F14 up for the thumbnail and if not breaking.

@@SHYTIMEismyTIME Also ive found that the stand does not work very well considering how front heavy the plane is. a single tap and it nose dives.any suggestions? day i put it on my shelf woke up and i guess it got shot down. Knew i should have gotten the Maverick minifigure.

Went to Brickmania today after seeing this video. No e-book instructions available, no stickers available, and no Cold War pilots mini figures available. It’s like they don’t want you to do it.
It has to do with the licensing agreement with Grumman, the manufacture of the actual aircraft. Brickmania goes through the actual companies before selling their modern vehicle models, as they have to pay royalties to them. But they currently do have an f-14 Tomcat kit avail. I saw one at the Chicago location last week.
