    I absolutely tell love the schmincke brand. They’re so incredibly smooth when running a brush over them and the saturation of color is beautiful!

    Great idea. Love the way you blend shadows. I’m surprised how cool the cobalt looks - I always thing of it as a warm blue.

    Thanks! Those colors are wonderful! They look so much nicer done that way.

    I love the new schmincke colors. As for cobalt blue I use it particularly for reflection/highlights. I paint botanicals and love to use cobalt as the natural day color highlight. It's perfect for getting the daylight in the subject.

      That's a great idea!
      It's so weak that using it this way can actually turn it into an advantage (:

    I have the 24 pan set, and have totally fallen in love. It is hard to find down here in Louisiana, but I cant wait to try out some tubes whenever I can get some. Thanks so much for sharing!!

      Amazing! I will soon start playing around with the pans too.
      I have quite a few and I'm curious to see what they are like (:

      I'm really happy with where the show is heading.
      It was originally just a random idea I got, and it develops quite nicely.

      Yes, it's one of my favs too. These red and blue work well together.

    I thought about trying some Schmincke on my channel, but balked as soon as I saw the 'Murican price tag. I swear it demanded payment in fingers. Surely, my eyes deceived me. Surely? Surely!

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha! Yes, I guess it can be a little more expensive in some places.

      @SoulKeever 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally, brother. I only have so many fingers left after buying my Mission Gold paints, LOL! These colors look really nice. I might try the Cobalt Azure at some point; I'm looking for a change from my Winny Newts Cerulean.

    • @erins.5420
      @erins.5420 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SoulKeever but dont you use mission gold? That's got an even heftier price tag unless you buy in those smaller tube sets on Amazon.

      Yeah, they already took half my fingers. ;)

    These are wonderful paints, you talked about not using the blue. Here is an idea, take your supplies and paint a beautiful painting of the Med. Sea. You should be right there in your new home. So many of us are land locked, it would be great. Hope you will consider in the near future.

    Hi Lyron, useful video as usual, thanks! Are the numbers on the tubes an internal code for this particular brand or is there some universal color number code?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The numbers on the Schmincke tubes are internal, as far as I know (:
      They correspond with the numbers on their brochure.
      Thank you ^_^

    How do you experience the Schmincke paints differs from the Daniel Smith's?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main differences and things that I noticed:
      1. Schmincke granulate less, which I'm starting to like (a matter of choice I guess).
      2. Schmincke re-wets MUCH better than Daniel Smith. They are softer and easier to wet and pick up.
      Both brands are really vibrant and strongly pigmented. They both produce beautiful results.
      But for me, with time, Schmincke starts to feel superior (:

    • @FlidaisPeridotEyes
      @FlidaisPeridotEyes 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like to have a variety to my paints, because I paint everything, almost. I think I might want to buy some Schmincke for my portraits... the Daniel Smiths granulate beautiful, as you said, but it's not so good for skin, as it is for painting nature. Thank you for your answer, it helps a lot. :)

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When I think about it, I did a portrait a few days ago, and I only now realize why I loved the result so much (:

    • @FlidaisPeridotEyes
      @FlidaisPeridotEyes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another tip for portrait: use the pthalos and quinacridones to mix your own browns and skincolors (like pthalo yellow green, quinacridone sienna, pthalo blue red shade) and the result will be smoother than using any earth pigment. :) (I also use transparent pyrrol orange for mixing)

    I really liked how you used the paints instead of just swatching them out. I'm not sure if I want to buy a whole set; but, I'd be willing to try a tube or two. I still really like Daniel Smith and can get them locally. The green that you used didn't come across as green on my monitor. How would it compare with something like Sap Green or just mixing a cool yellow with a cool blue (Hansa Yellow Med and Phthalo Blue, for example)?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would compare to mixing a warm blue (French Ultramarine) and a warm yellow (New Gamboge), but then adding some Pyrrol Scarlet / Magenta to heavily dim and gray it.
      I hope it makes sense ^_^

    Hi Liron, this is a wonderful and informative video, as always.
    You might be interested to hear that the paints Schmincke sent you are all new colours, developed by Schmincke to celebrate one hundred and twenty five years of the Horadam Aquarell / Watercolours.
    Concerning, the Cobalt Azure, I don't think this is genuine Cobalt Blue pigment. The Cobalt Azure is actually what might usually be called Cerulean Blue, with the pigment of PB35, though I still think PB35 contains the element of cobalt. Schmincke has three types of blue that they call "Cobalt Blue". They are as follows: Cobalt Blue Hue, which is a mix of PW4 and PB29 and which I recommend one avoids. Cobalt Blue Light is actually genuine Cobalt Blue, with pigment PB28. This is the one I would recommend you try. They also have a Cobalt Blue Deep, which use a seldom seen pigment of PB74. In Winsor and Newton, this is also Cobalt Blue Deep. My favourite of the three is definitely genuine cobalt blue with PB28.
    I really love the Perylene Green and Quinacridone Violet in this video and will have to pick some tubes up. I have used Schmincke's French Ultramarine, which is completely transparent and granulates to an extent I have never seen before. It is a beautiful colour and I prefer it over their non granulating Ultramarine Finest.
    I am happy you love Schmincke and cover their paints so often. I think they're beautiful paints and are very good value here in Europe, when compared with Daniel Smith or Winsor and Newton.
    Thanks for the video. :)

      Thank you - once again great information (:
      I indeed didn't like the Cobalt Azure as much. I used it today for the first time. Will search for an alternative in the future, I have many many other blues to choose from.
      Regarding the granulating French Ultramarine, I loved it too! Tried it out today and it's fantastic. Was also pleasantly surprised by the rest of them.
      Will share some results in an upcoming video.

    • @Tennishead21
      @Tennishead21 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sorry you didn't like the Cobalt Azure. I can understand that as I don't really like genuine Cerulean Blue. I have an old tube of it somewhere from Winsor and Newton that I will probably never finish. I find it too opaque and the colour is not really very natural to me. Here in Ireland, we don't get skies that are the colour of PB35, Cerulean Blue / Cobalt Azure very often. :(
      I think the French Ultramarine Blue from Schmincke is one of the best French Ultramarines I have ever used. It mixes very nicely with PBR7, Burnt Umber / Burnt Sienna, or Schmincke's Transparent Sienna or Transparent Umber, both PR101, to form a very pleasing grey.
      If you are interested in trying genuine Cobalt Blue, PB28, which is called Cobalt Blue Light by Schmincke, I would encourage you to do so. It is a beautiful colour and is very useful for the shadows in snow and winter scenes. It is also useful because it is the type of pigment that will always stay light. It is almost impossible to mix a black with cobalt blue. It, too mixes nicely with PBR7 or PR101. :)

    Painting inside after all the outdoor stuff feels easy huh.. Like when the guyz at DragonBall Z train at 100! Times gravity and then get back to normal gravity 😁

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes - kind of the same thing (;
      There are things that make on-location easier, but much more that make it harder (in my opinion).

  • @ulutiu
    @ulutiu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You call multiple times your Cobalt Azure as Cobalt Blue. These are different pigments and different colors. Former is PB35 sold by other brands as Cerulean, latter is PB28.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. If I’m not mistaken I corrected it in the description. I only realized when I finished recording haha.
      The Cobalt Azure is so much weaker.

    Love them. They never do dry out so don't do what I did and leave your palette on a slant because they will run. lol

    Which brand is your favorite Liron?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was a close battle between Schmincke and Daniel Smith.
      But after spending some time with the Schmincke they win for me. Re-wet much better and suit my style.
      I do have a few Sennelier tubes I have to try, and I also never tried Holbein before. I'll test these two in the future (:

    • @2lmdi
      @2lmdi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liron, I find Schmincke closer to my usual Sennelier than Daniel Smith. I don't like what Arches (at least blocks) does to my Sennelier paints. The paper soaks them up like a sponge. They really require another layer if using it because they glow (the reason I like them) when on top and the first layer acts as a sizing I guess. So you may not like them as I know you use Arches. As said, I either have to layer quite a bit on it or size it some more before painting especially if using Sennelier. I've pretty much learned to size it now no matter what paint I'm using... once I'm through with the block, no more Arches for me as my style has developed more into a "one stroke and leave it."

    • @richieray6619
      @richieray6619 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pat Kin What paper are you using now? I'm using Cezanne and it soaks so much paint and I'd like to switch to student grade paper like Strathmore 400. My Sennelier paints run out fast. 😂
