A machine like that doesn’t need to be new, it just needs to be new to you. Your excitement is clear to see. Happy hammering!

Your excitement is infectious! Good fix to the problem, and not too difficult. Looking forward to seeing the foundation come together and some parts getting hammered! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Nils, I just started following you a short while ago. I don't want to frighten you or be a wise guy. However always be careful with exchanging old seals from 'older' equipment they can contain asbestos. nevertheless good job repairing the power hammer. I really enjoy your videos!

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not too worried, I think it was leather! but thanks for the heads up!

Good stuff mate. You look very pleased with solving the problem, and rightly so too. Keep up the good work. Love the colour of the Jupiter too.

Great work, Nils! When I saw that hammer lift to the top, I jumped up and down in my seat and cheered like a sports fan. The new power hammer looks great, and you seem happy in your work.
I just listened to the ForgeCast episode where you stepped down today, and then you uploaded this video and it made my day.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks! Yeah I left the forge cast a couple of hears ago. It was a good run :)

now if you start by painting it, as you did, you will be more motivated to finish it... may not be right allways, but it helps 😉

The “gasket” make the airtight seal…but seal works just fine!

Nice looking power hammer you have there, you’re wise to be acquiring that sort of equipment, over a lifetime it will save so much wear and tear on your wrists, elbows, shoulders etc. I have often heard and used the expression “ pig in a bag “ in our Aussie version of the English language, didn’t realise it’s origins were Swedish. But I guess the English language has adopted words and expressions from so many other languages. Top video 👍 Regards from Down Under.

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have no clue if it originates from sweden, its just a saying :)

I saw the title and thought you were going to have to do a Major Repair, but lo and behold it just took replacing a couple of gaskets :)

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

And boy was I happy about that :)

Good Job. Congratulations. I am doing the same job and like to know if you already made the foundation for your machine. If yes, could you tell me how was you plan and execution?

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

yeah the idea was to make a "moveable" foundation. But since I already have some extra concrete where the hammer is standing, and I am am very much struggling we with time, I have not yet made it. Most likely I will make the foundation beginning next year or so.

in germany it´s: don´t buy the cat in the bag. What was that new gasket material? The original was leather i guess, I watched Timothy Dyck replace all those leather seals in his project...I mean Power Hammer in his latest videos ^_^ Good to see you happy and excited with the result of your work 👍🖖

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The new gaskers were paper with oil. Very cheap and easy to make. I just bought a roll and now have for many replacements to come. I was very worried that there was another issue at first. I follow Tim also, live his channel!

As far as my understanding is. A seal keeps stuff out that isn't supposed to be inside. And a gasket is supposed to keep the stuff inside that is meant to be inside.

Your joy on successfully repairing the gasket is palpable.
Aside for anyone wanting English Idiom education.
It's nice that you don't buy a pig in a poke. A poke is an old word for a bag as in a pocket. The English version was first published in 1555. Google "pig in a poke". The Swedish version sends you there for more info, alas.
That gasket was kaput. (kaput = shot = useless = ruined).

3:40 The English colloquialism is to buy a pig in a poke.
At least you have a pretty green pig.
The English word for the gasket is 'seal'.

‘Poke’ is an old English word for bag from the Norman ‘poque’. I love being European, we are so entwined in our cultures.

Letar efter en översättning för power hammer till svenska. Hittar inget vettigt (mer än 'krafthammare').
