So, Mercury is the closest planet to us, on average, because Venus is much farther away from us when it's on the other side of the Sun than Mercury is when it's on the other side of the Sun from us. That makes Venus further away, on average, even though it gets much closer to us sometimes. In fact, Mercury is closer, on average, to every planet than any other planet for exactly the same reason.

#18- not water freezes faster. I saw a video of a guy who through a hot cup of coffee out in freezing weather and it evaporated INSTANTLY! The video came 50 years after I learned this fact.

#3 .. of course, the thing to remember is that the question said ''What's the closest to the Earth ON AVERAGE'' and not ''Which planet passes closest to the Earth''

Actually, that is the order of the planets from the sun.
That's correct, but due to it's orbit, Venus on average isn't as close as Mercury. Venus passes the closest when it passes, but is further away most of the time.😀
What sticks for me is 'Mary's Virgin Explanation Made Joseph Suspect Upstairs Neighbor' Unfortunately that didn't help with this answer. I was assuming since I can see Venus most clearly it is because it is closer (the 'on average' clue went over my head.

Wrong…….saffron is more expensive than gold. Wrong koalas are not bears.
Hi. Thanks for commenting. It is a common misconception that saffron is more expensive than gold. Probably because it has been stated many times, however that doesn't make it a fact. Currently saffron has the lowest price of $59.95 per oz and gold is around $1867 per oz. You can easily check this with a quick search online. With regards to koalas, yes my bad, that's just showing my age as we always called them bears when I was a kid. 😂

I thought it was venus because i had no idea so i just guessed
Got 33/40. Missed the question about the closest planet to Earth, but the right answer does make sense if you think about it-- when Mercury and Venus are both on the other side of the Sun from Earth, Mercury will indeed be closer. Mercury is also of course closer to us if it's on our side of the Sun and Venus is on the other side. Venus is only closer to Earth when it is on the same side of the Sun as us.
