The part that fell out is a vane, a bit like what's in an air tool, I think there only 2 vanes, so it pump much less maybe not much at all. Note without the air pump the catalytic converter may be more likely to fail.

What fell out is a carbon blade that glides on the inside and helps push air
Thank you! The mechanic I took it back to had no idea whatsoever!
Wow. So it does squeal when its going out. Thank you so much
the squeal I had was from the belt going over this seized pully

This is why everyone’s gutted the cats in these old trucks in the Midwest!
When you were spinning the center piece, that's the noise I get when I start my truck.
grab your wd40!
It took me a whole day just to figure what this part was until I removed it and took it to the auto part store
WD-40 becomes gummy when its heated for a long time. Use a non-detergent oil for lubing the internals.
Any suggestions please?
Graphite powder, apparently@@MrEde23
Dude thank you for posting this video my 89 Mercury air pump seized up did this and it moves again
glad it helped!
Fixed mine on a Ford E 350, 460 FI bbf. Took it off and through it away
where you can find the rebuild kit for it
no idea, I didn't rebuild mine, just stopped it being broken
Any chance you know the pulley size? I’m in CA and got one from Oregon where they don’t look under engine bays.
no idea at all, sorry!
i get how to take the back off but what about the rest of the stuff. by back is off and it still won't move.
check for anything that's jamming it, mine had loose metal inside. also hose it down in wd40 and crank hard with big plyers
My pump was clicking like crazy so i deleted it and got shorter pulley. Now my engine idle is rough. Would this delete cause this?
don't know, I could never find a belt that fit properly with it removed
@@MooseDoesStuff ok thx

@@MooseDoesStuff no probs, thanks for the reply. I ordered a new belt anyway, hopefully it works :) If not, maybe I'll rebuild it :)
How about drilling a hole in it, pour some oil in and put a threaded plug in the hole
this isn't supposed to be a lubricated part, otherwise it'd have a path to oil

You have a worn belt tensioner problem.
The tensioner had actually been replaced fairly recently before that
