Great explanation, thank you! I didn't know about the light either.
I now lower the shutters when I start and of course raise them again or not, depending on whether it is day or night.
When I take a break or when I turn off the TV, I slowly turn the light on according to your idea. My family is thrilled! 🙂

I have some automations for my LG OLED TV making life easier. Especially in regards to managing my 5yo sons TV habit. I have created a switch for situations when he has misbehaved, when turned on it will turn the TV off once the TV launch is registered. Another one would be hard limiting the volume to 10 as we have also a baby sleeping in the room next to us. This way the volume can not be set above 10. Last one I like very much is where I have a slider to define the minutes when the TV shuts down. This way my son won't catch me with the smartphone in my hand, and starts connecting dots.

Is there a way to send a command to GoogleTV (or FireTV) like "button_up", "button_home", ... so that HomeAssistant can "press" the buttons like I would press it on the remote?
Because I have multiple things I would love to automate.
E.g. that it connects to my headphones with one command from HomeAssistant which would trigger multiple button presses after each other.
    Or close all apps completely.

How do you handle competing entities? What I mean is HA has both my Sony Bravia TV as a Device/Entity as well as my Google TV. The Google TV is what I stream on as the Native Bravia interface was getting really laggy. So I'm not sure if I run the automation on one or the other or how to tell it to stream on the Google TV and not the actual TV if that makes sense.

12 month old Sony Bravia (I think it's with Google TV) - had to remove integration, as while integrated with Home Assistant it (the TV) would randomly "reboot" - up to 3 times a day :p

That's weird! The Samsung integration mis-reports the TV turning on too. I had an automation set up in the bedroom to turn the lights to 30% brightness when the TV switched on. After watching this I have managed to get my LG WebOS TV connected. @@HomeAutomationGuy Thanks for the info mate.
This is the conclusions that I have come to as well, its disappointing that we can't get more details out of the TV. it would be nice to see in more details what info you can get from all the apps using google TV. this is one thing that I find disappointing about home assistant, lots of information but lots of holes in that information.
it looks like Apple TV can not only report play/pause from apps but also the name of the channel that uploaded the currently playing TH-cam video. this can be used with the TH-cam API to display the thumbnail of the currently playing video.

@@Flackon for newer LG models, it also support WoL via WiFi. Chances are good as long as the WoL is working properly at least from the official LG ThinQ app and your TV. If it does, then you can start to experiment with HA. I get it working having HA on a wired network LAN, having a bridge to the WiFi, and LG TV connected on that WiFi. Sometimes it does not turn on on the first WoL packet, so i just make a simple Repeat-Until automation within HA with delay, so i'm able to send few WoL packets until the TV finally turn on.

Would be a pain if someone in the movie you're watching says "switch off the tv!" and your automation decides to react on that. 🙃 But TTS to the tv could be useful to e.g. tell me tomorrow's weather in those first 30 seconds after switching on the tv and waiting for the streaming box to boot up and initiate.

@@jorgewhite3315 You let a machine pick up its IP via DHCP, then set it as reserved (in most systems thats the proceedure) - so the machines IP is in the DHCP tables on the router. The machine itself doesn't have any special settings, no IP directly set.
Any time that machine connects to the network (from a power cycle or whatever) it'll ask the DHCP server for an address - the DHCP server will always serve the same IP based on the client machines MAC address, which is burned on to the network interface chip from the factory and never changes.
The biggest advantage is that its all managed on the router, instead of on separate machines. Other advantages include the ability for it to pick up the DNS server / gateway info from DHCP on the router.
