This ammo has quite a mark up on it you would be at $5/ rnd for m993/ap8 and m995/ap3 for test quantity from the manufacturer. You need a longer barrel and longer range to compare the swiss p wcap as this is carries it's energy better than m993 or slap. There are equivalent rounds with some variations for eastern block ammo. And other material types. You would also find some interesting results if you separate the plates or add a separate cover plate. If you put m193 up against 1/4" plate then its likely to plug but the m855 will be stopped.
They are specialized rounds and should never be shot through a muzzle brake. A flash hider is ok as the slots are longitudinal. The ports of a brake are vertical and can intercept the Sabot. Not good for the follow up shot. Mark Serbu will attest to that. 50 cal in the face. 0.50 Cal SLAP through a MB. Second round bad. He is well, and advised. Praise God.

As an avid reloader, I can tell you if money savings is your reason, the cost will pretty much be the same, maybe less and could be even more. It all depends on your components you use. And thats the advantage to reloading. You get to choose your components. Just to give you an example. 9mm is cheaper to buy than it is to reload. Dont know how they do, but you can buy 1000 rnds of 9mm for about 230. Just the primers will cost you now anywhere from 110 to 150, the bullets will cost you around 100 for cheap bullets and the powder would be around 15. So add that up an for a 1000 rnds, with free brass taken from the range. You will spend probably at least 250. The bullets I buy for the range are about 11 cents each, but you can spend 30 to 50 cents each for better bullets..The advantage is I get to choose my load, my bullet and powder. I wouldnt trade my ammo for store bought because I know whats in it.

Not a huge savings. Insane accuracy out of my Tikka T3lite Stainless fluted barrel. .5 MOA at a 100yds.and 1" at 350yds.
That's pretty ridiculous, even in California a box of 20rd 338 lapua costs about 65 dollars, not cheap but it's about double a box of any standard 30 cal
The military already did this with the SLAP rounds, they used the 50BMG for a bit and developed some for the M60, but abandoned those as they caused “a series of catastrophic malfunctions” Also, the accelerators sucked unless handled with the utmost care as it was pretty easy to shift the projectile in the sabot and make your groupings open up to like 8’ at 50yds
The nice thing about 50 BMG is you can buy armor piercing rounds, tracer and incendiary and a combination of them all in cheap surplus ammo. Plus ball and match rounds and RAFUS if you want to really go crazy.
Casual reminder that "tungsten" and "tungsten carbide" are not the same thing. Tungsten(or some aloy of it) is the meterial used in the rounds shown and is a metal. Tungsten carbide are bits you you see welded on the tips of saw blades and other such cuting instruments and is not a metal. They are different things with difrent properties and cannot be use interchangeably. Engineer out.
You want SLAP rounds cheap? EABCO polymer accelerator. You’ll need the reloading adapters, but you could make seriously fast rounds out of any .30 round. 30-06 does a serious number on level 4.
depends if you want your video to be monetized or not. youtube HATES API rounds, (more so the incendiary part). the bigger gun youtubers like DemoRanch, KentuckyBallistics etc.. show the impacts, but again its mostly to do with youtube monetization. I also realized that these bigger gun TH-camrs can actually "afford" to show off these impacts as they are relatively more well off than BB.
Commentators below pointed out that the main problem with Tungsten is that it has no functional brizance, nor ignition function. Depleted Uranium is used for anti-tank, because it almost immediately ignites into a flaming spall after penetration (in oxygen). As such it also sets everything behind it, on fire. Tungsten is glass-hard and tends to have no spall from itself. DU is softer, and when penetrating it basically flows like butter through any soft metals, and those edges ignite. We used to model this hydrodynamic flow, and the main problem was that the DU blob ejected all of itself before penetrating. The additions of some kind of support structure, such as the aluminum cup (much softer) is intended to provide a sacrificial buffer so that the DU can get further into the structure. Tungsten has the same problems as the original Luger pistol, where the bullet just went cleanly though the target. As a result, warriors were able to fight on for hours, unless they lost a lot of blood, or had been hit in a disabling site. The Moro war earlier led to the move to a larger 45 round by the Marines, which had a one-hit disabling capability.
It needs to be mentioned that your pacing and consistency is really admirable. Hats off to the editing, creating a brand. Impressive marksmenship as well of course.
I knew that SLAP went through like butter just watching it hit. I had zero doubt there would be a hole on the back without even any deformation around it. Just butter. Crazy.
The results for raufoss m211 vs the SLAP makes sense to me. The raufoss is meant to pierce soft-armored or lightly-armored vehicles and detonate behind the armor, inflicting serious damage to the vehicle’s occupants. The SLAP is like a needle, it’s made for pure penetration but won’t cause nearly the same amount of chaos inside of a vehicle.
FYI - I've shot standard .50 bmg AP rounds into 1.5" and 2" mild steel plate at 100 yds. It bores a hole clean through the 1.5" and either bulged the back or the penetrator sticks out the back on the 2" plate. Might be something your viewers would like to see, but I'd highly recommend using a full-length barrel rifle to get the most out of it. My is a Barrett M99 with the longer bull barrel.
Awesome video!! Some of these rounds are amazing and some of the results were surprising. Definitely appreciate Buffman Range and will be subscribing to them right after watching this video. 👍
It would be nice to see if you could grind off the welds and look at the back of the first plate in front of the second plate. Those welds look pretty good btw.
@ 4:40- "I turned 21 in prison doing life without parole, no one could steer me right but MOMMA Tried..." Funny how certain words and ballistics can kick off a memory.
That's nuts, the M995 and 993 are the stuff of hype legend, but it's looking like overhyped legend now. The M938 result was insane, it's just a shame you can't use any muzzle devices with it.
The M993 is a Swedish ammo made by Bofors. I've tested it a lot for body armor protection. With that round the body armor gets to heavy to wear. In Sweden the army has ordered new combat rifles from Sako Finland and I could guess what ammo they are going to use.
Awesome video, that SLAP is crazy impressive. Why are the blurs censored? I heard about TH-cams new gun policy, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.
I have some old .30-06 accelerator rounds which are super similar to the design of the SLAP round but it’s a 55gr copper jacketed lead projectile instead of tungsten
The cheaper he goes the more annoyed he sounds with the price, while the higher the price goes in the video the more ecstatic he sounds😂😂whatever you are on brother, I need me some of that
I made a bolt action .50 BMG rifle. I shot it with standard FMJ loads. I had ear plugs and headphones, but was still insanely loud. I could feel my intestines shaking from the shock wave.
You make the info very entertaining. Maybe spray paint your gel manikin in-between shots (like the target) so the debris impacts show up? Apparently can't beat a SLAP round, but can you ever really trust the load unless you load it yourself?!
I kinda want to own a few of these rounds just to have them. Collecting a lot of unique and rare guns is a bit out of my price range, so unique ammo is a nice 2nd option.
M993 seems like shooting a magnum version of a 308 but with the added benefit of it having a hardened core and additions to stabilize it in flight. Same with the SLAP. The Slap is a lightweight core? Less material to eat the force of impact. Only the tungsten core to ice pick thru the plate.
Everyone gets hung up on the Raufoss round, but IIRC it doesn't penetrate as well, or carry as much explosive as other rounds. It's a best of all worlds round.
Thanks, Enjoyed the show, info and humor.. Like the Noreen 50. Car engine blocks are good for ammo testing, More likely to be encountered as a Target. Most so called modern cars today have Aluminum blocks, Easy to stop.
someone might have mentioned already, but there is actually one 7.62 that is more extreme than even the SLAP... 7.62x51 DUDS, which stands for Depleted Uranium Discarding Sabot. so basically a SLAP round but with DU instead of tungsten. not even sure where you would find them. I believe Oxide did some testing with a couple awhile back
Wonder how the old remington saboted 30-06 varmint round would do? IIRC it fired a .22 cal 70gr at around 3700fps. I still have a couple floating around. I suspect they wouldn't even dimple the metal since they're pretty standard construction copper jacketed lead, the oddity being a sabot .22 out of aught six.
Buffman range is a cool mf, keep up the good work! You want to raise your eyebrows, test some .257 weatherby mag, 100 gr spitzer weatherby factory loads, it will burn a clean hole through 1/2” ar 500 at 100 yds. Ask me how I know!
Back in the 1980's sabot rounds were widely available in .30-30 Winchester, .308 Winchester, and .30-'06 Government. They weren't armor piercing SLAP rounds, just SL'uh.

I was just going to say many of our rifle rounds even for 270Win are $50 a box and even more for 7MM etc.
I do hand loads for my 270 for accuracy and projectile. Not a huge savings. Insane accuracy out of my Tikka T3lite Stainless fluted barrel. .5 MOA at a 100yds.and 1" at 350yds.
Not sure how much it would save because I'm guessing the components for it are high too but reloading is almost a must for a cartridge like that.
That's pretty ridiculous, even in California a box of 20rd 338 lapua costs about 65 dollars, not cheap but it's about double a box of any standard 30 cal
In the 80s they had slap rounds for 30-06 and they were call accelerators and they were twice as much as regular rounds, for a hunting coyotes
Weren't they 223 rounds saboted in 30-06 brass?
@@chrisdonnelly5904 You are correct sir.
@@chrisdonnelly5904 yes I believe it was, use them in Arizona they don't go very far.
You could also by the sabots and load your own.
The military already did this with the SLAP rounds, they used the 50BMG for a bit and developed some for the M60, but abandoned those as they caused “a series of catastrophic malfunctions”
Also, the accelerators sucked unless handled with the utmost care as it was pretty easy to shift the projectile in the sabot and make your groupings open up to like 8’ at 50yds
Wrapping a wet sock loosely around the brake on that .499bmg is hilarious but it does drop the over-pressure quite a bit. Like a bandage, not a hat.
*14:30** Thank you for that expense. Saved many people money, I'm sure.*
The nice thing about 50 BMG is you can buy armor piercing rounds, tracer and incendiary and a combination of them all in cheap surplus ammo. Plus ball and match rounds and RAFUS if you want to really go crazy.
You absolutely should spray paint "Harry" white which would show the actual damage and make the findings more accurate.
Harry? You mean Terry the Torso?
@@md_vandenberg harry the horso
@@md_vandenberg That's the torso's name, isn't it?
Lol these mannequins clear up with a torch flame very quickly and become transparent.. Why paint it?
A cheap t shirt would work easy to see and cheap
Casual reminder that "tungsten" and "tungsten carbide" are not the same thing.
Tungsten(or some aloy of it) is the meterial used in the rounds shown and is a metal.
Tungsten carbide are bits you you see welded on the tips of saw blades and other such cuting instruments and is not a metal.
They are different things with difrent properties and cannot be use interchangeably.
Engineer out.
.50 BMG SLAP, when 👀
You would have to call that round a juggernaut, because nothings stopping it !
You shot the Swiss 338 AP yay! I had a comment on one of your other videos about it. Love the stuff, keep up the awesome work!
You want SLAP rounds cheap? EABCO polymer accelerator. You’ll need the reloading adapters, but you could make seriously fast rounds out of any .30 round. 30-06 does a serious number on level 4.
Dude that 7.62 slap round is actually mindblowing. I've shot FMJ .50 BMG at AR500 steel and it stopped it no problem.
Why censor the impact ?
probably because like all youtubers they value money more than content. honestly sad to see. youtube didnt used to be about money.
depends if you want your video to be monetized or not. youtube HATES API rounds, (more so the incendiary part). the bigger gun youtubers like DemoRanch, KentuckyBallistics etc.. show the impacts, but again its mostly to do with youtube monetization.
Terry looking like he needs a vacation. Maybe he needs to go to a spa and get a little plastic surgery.
I see what you did there!!!! HA!!!!
I knew that SLAP went through like butter just watching it hit. I had zero doubt there would be a hole on the back without even any deformation around it. Just butter. Crazy.
Banana talks to Terry like Tom Hanks talks to Wilson
What, He's been alone too long?
A perfect example why tank guns moved from solid AP or APHE to APDS rounds , this slap round kicks man .
Great video.. that SLAP round was impressive
Nice!!!!!appreciate your humor and content
Why censor the raufus round explosion?
TH-cam new rules probably. Either would demonetize or restrict the video.
Your videos have always been good, but your recent vids are absolutely killing it.
Na, you got me. Lol. That clip never gets old.
...I guess I'll mention that I like the new "toilet man" character; yeah been awhile coming, but thx banana man
I'd love for you to get onto the unsub podcast.
Good idea!
Please do
Someone tag doughnut or Eli
That is a great idea!
Why?
It would be nice to see if you could grind off the welds and look at the back of the first plate in front of the second plate. Those welds look pretty good btw.
Why censorship of the impact??? TH-cam?
"only!?!" Guy got me 😂 1:24
Glad terry is back
would be nice to see if the 'slap' could make it through that final armor combo.
Very informative and entertaining.
Cheers for sharing.
Super cool that you bought these rounds just to show us
That slap round was no joke!!!
@ 4:40- "I turned 21 in prison doing life without parole, no one could steer me right but MOMMA Tried..." Funny how certain words and ballistics can kick off a memory.
Great video as usual. Very entertaining and informative.
That's nuts, the M995 and 993 are the stuff of hype legend, but it's looking like overhyped legend now. The M938 result was insane, it's just a shame you can't use any muzzle devices with it.
Really great test !!
Just watched buff’s video, now I’m here!
That slap round is super impressive.
3:00 Now the box of sand can make a cameo appearance so it can be disgraced once and for all.
Sheeesh look at that solus!
I'm impressed, not with the cost of the ammo but the fact you didn't get a concussion from that 50 BMG. Thanks, great video!...
2:15 This thing could have maybe performed better than the expensive .50 BMG, if it was used on the same target.
The M993 is a Swedish ammo made by Bofors. I've tested it a lot for body armor protection. With that round the body armor gets to heavy to wear. In Sweden the army has ordered new combat rifles from Sako Finland and I could guess what ammo they are going to use.
Buffman is the GOAT
Your representation of your viewing audience is hilarious along with the tight edits and jokes, excellent work
Awesome video, that SLAP is crazy impressive. Why are the blurs censored? I heard about TH-cams new gun policy, but it just doesn't make any sense to me.
Dude you’re really entertaining…great info. Thank you for not being foul!
I have some old .30-06 accelerator rounds which are super similar to the design of the SLAP round but it’s a 55gr copper jacketed lead projectile instead of tungsten
Fantastic, really enjoyed, thanks
Why were the Raufoss rounds censored?
So, what´s with the super anoying blurr ruining the raufos shots?
Ammunition should always be made with great cost effectiveness. For the military to sustain itself this is actually paramount
Why is he censoring those hits??
That 7.62mm sure was a surprise!! It would be interesting to see what they would do to ballistic glass.
Love your videos. Keep up the good work
I kinda want to own a few of these rounds just to have them.
Banana man that was a great video test! That Sabot was NASTY!! Thanks! BTW you're funny as hell too! ;D
I believe Oxide did some testing with a couple awhile back
*Wow.* I'm honestly impressed and proud of you for not shooting a sand trap
Great video 🫡
Amazing, Thanks
Back in the 1980's sabot rounds were widely available in .30-30 Winchester, .308 Winchester, and .30-'06 Government. They weren't armor piercing SLAP rounds, just SL'uh.
Censored blur ? Wtf
Also what is so special about the last round ?
You didn't explain
How did you know I wear a plate carrier when I sit on the toilet and watch your videos???
Your videos are just right. Not too long but still science based.
"World's most expensive cartridges" Was anyone else expecting him to shoot some weatherby cartridges??
Why blur it out
