    Maybe the board was there while it was being developed and served to isolate the rotary switch from the case.

    I think that pen also has a little reversible screwdriver on the other side if you unscrew the rubber stylus. They're surprisingly useful in a small toolbag.

      I have one of these aswell. And yes, it has a screwdriver underneath it. You can put the rubber stylus ontop the pen when you need the screwdriver

    I love the labelling on the box, even a sharpie would be better.

    My guess is that the board is there to prevent the bottom layer of the switch lugs from shorting out against the heat sink.

    Some of those TI chips are $5 on their own! Nice deal. 16 bit DAC!

    Hay that's a great idea, got a box full of power resistors I should put them in a box one of these days. Never know when you need to load a power supply or drain a battery.

    I've got a heatsink that's maybe more than twice as big but I've always wondered what to do with it? Kinda feels wasteful to just use it as a resistor load, but it's not like I'm ever going to design a 4000W amplifier...

    • @andymouse
      @andymouse ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chop it up and make 8 500W amps!

    They weren't "gonna" build one, they built it! It looks great, but I'd part it out all the same. You got some good deals at this place. The TI kit was an incredible bargain.

    There is more to the pen! The soft rubber nib at the end serves as a stylus for your smartphone/tablet, and if you unscrew the stylus end of the pen there is a screw driver inside

    Curious about the wiring arrangement but I couldn't make out the resistor values, I'm assuming some are set values and some are in series. I'm wondering if there is an optimal way to wire this using series/paralleled resistors? And how does this have a 50W limit if those are all 25W resistors? I'd love to see the wiring diagram for this

  • @ralphj4012
    @ralphj4012 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting and a bargain. I wonder whether the board is to prevent the rear of the switch shorting to the heatsink when assembled or in the event that someone removes the switch nut when the unit is connected (the case internal depth seems similar to the length of the switch).

    Wouldn’t you know I was building a resistor decade with SMD resistors. 1ohm to 10MOhm I take a break check YT you post a video with it.

    Pretty cool load box. I kind of like the way he used the feet as nuts to hold the lid on. Since he has an "open" selection it's a bit strange that he didn't include a "short" selection to zero out the meter leads. Maybe the extra banana jacks are somehow intended for four wire measurements. Anyway, cool 👍

    That’s awesome and a steal at twice the price. Those resistors must go for $10 or more each. Needs some new tech display and to have the dial reoriented to the front. If you don’t already have, you should setup an eBay store for your subscribers. I’d bid on that in a heartbeat

  • @keycontroller

    I gues the extra plate is against any shortcuts between the switch and the aluminium block

    So basically if I want to take advantage of Anchor Electronics I need to make a trip from Connecticut to Silicon Valley. I've never been to Silicon Valley so maybe I need to put that on the todo list.

    The pen's top looks like a pad to operate a touchscreen. I do wonder whether the level is accurate, though. I would expect 0.53 Ohm at room temperature and 0.53+0.03 Ohm at 50 W. A 75 Ohm setting (for video) would be preferred to most values provided. Also, a coax connector would be useful; though I don't know how it responds to hf.

  • @EngineeringVignettes

    I am guessing its a dummy speaker load. Multiple choices for adding additional resistance to simulate frequency-dependant impedance?
    Choke full of parts.

    • @jimomertz
      @jimomertz ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit overkill for a speaker load. You only need 4, 8, 16 ohm. Plus you’d want two, one for each channel. And more likely 100W instead of 50W. So maybe a power supply load tester?
