    This means you better can buy a 30-year old Casio for nearly no money, which certainly has more features. Same goes for most Yamaha PSR-models.

    I’ve had one of these since 2015. It cost around 60 pounds back then, if I remember correctly. I quite like it, though the lack of a sustain option is a drawback. The cheesiness of the sounds is quite appealing, actually.

      I've just bought a used CTK-100 in good condition for the fourth of the price. I want to sample it so I can use it on the computer or from the CT-S500. If CTK-240 was at half it's current marked price, then I wouldn't complain and would consider getting it - otherwise no.

    Can't believe the criticism from this reviewer. I just picked one up from Cash Converters - £30! Casio may have used the same sounds for years but I wouldn't know cos I've never bought a Casio. I have bought a camper though so Im on the road a lot and this is perfect - it means I can play pretty much anywhere until I get home to my trusty Korg X50 and Kross!

    Seeing this keyboards makes me realize my Casio CT-700 is not all that bad despite being a bit dated ( I think the CT-700
    was reviewed on this channel a few years ago ). I thought Casio had long discontinued making keyboards with that really
    old A2 basic sound set that Casio have been using in their low end keyboards at least since the mid 90s. The CTK-240 is not
    worth anymore than £70 or £80 at the most.

    • @gearfacts

    Fun fact. Yamaha's first appearance of XG lite which is still the system they use today was in 1994. With some sounds dating back to 1983 like part of the drum kit. Casio, as bad as they can be are a lot better with the use of their sound chips for the most part. Pretty much everything niw use the AIX sound source appart from the earlier CTS and this year's SA-50. I still wonder when will keyboards come with more experimental sounds and not just gm equivalents.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, you have to wonder when this kind of thing will be completely obsolete. Processors are so cheap and simple now, so there's no reason why a basic home keyboard can't be just as good as a Roland Juno, Korg Krome etc

While I'm at it, I'm looking for a cheap sampling keyboard, with mini keys if possible. I am almost blind so I can't use the CTS keyboards for example. Does the casio-ctk 240 have any way of having sustain

  • @keyhoarder
    @keyhoarder ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I've tested many Casio models from the late 90-s and compared them with the CTK 240 on my own and i completely agree. Maybe there are some minor differences, but apart from the different box and colours it's mainly the same as for example Casio CTK 411 from the 1998. So they sell 25 year old keyboard in 2023 for quite high price:
    in my Country,
    Yamaha PSR F52 cost ~110$
    Casio - 135 $
    And Yamaha - while also still quite aged, sound way bettter.
    Also this sound is very generic and boring.
    Older Casios have more interesting features like the great CTK 650/750 (magical presets) or all "green buttons synth" series (CT 670/680). I think kids today would greatly look for something with more electronic oriented sounds than this general midi- it doesn't have midi anyway so they could add some interesting sounds.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think an actual sonic upgrade is long overdue. Or at least a few effects to apply to the sounds. I suspect that Casio targets the kids/parents market as 'not discerning or aware that this has been done dozens of times before'. And they may well be correct, but that doesn't make it 'right' if you know what I mean :)

    • @keyhoarder
      @keyhoarder ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gearfacts yeah, also i think that these keyboards for ~100$ should have touch response feature. Its funny that 20 year old, still not very professional home keyboards have better sounds and more features. Considering the progress in other electronics - especially the chip memory this is ANCIENT. Not in a good way, it was mediocre even in the 90s.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think this particular model has the correct socket for a sustain pedal. If there is a “function“ or “menu“ button on the front panel, try pressing it and seeing if there’s a sustain option in the menu.

    I just bought a new one for £75, I think it will be fine for me as I just need to get going again without all the DAW bs that I am not fully setup for here. Sharing a computer for work, gaming and music, is not ideal at all.

    also the design flaw - the speakers are on the sides. It would be much more portable if the speakers were on top. Also by my knowledge they are not stereo, and quite mediocre quality, so they could even left the one speaker without big sacrifice.
