Correct. When I was learning Nihongo in university, it's frustrating to understand our Japanese teacher because she knew very little English. She was saying something in Japanese and we were just trying to guess what she was saying on the board. Even if she made lots of gestures, sometimes we give the correct answer but most of the times, it was impossible. We were just learning vocabulary the whole year.
But when the Japanese students visited our school and we toured them around the campus, I was paired with a young man and I communicated with him mostly through gestures, sounds and pointing my fingers here and there. When his head bumped into something, he said: "itte, itte.." with pain on his face.. I understood that the word "itte" means "painful" even if he didn't tell me what it meant.
Sometimes, we learn words faster when we just follow and guess a native speaker demonstrating words into actions.

Thank for your information. It gives me much useful knowledge about young learners. But some strategies are good for secondary school students!

What do you call that sound machine? Does it have a brand name? Because I'm planning to buy it online. Thank you!

Why do I have to waste so much energy when I can just use short video clips, realia and visual images and audio to let it all do the explanation.
When I was in kindergarten, my teacher didn't do so much TPR. Still, I was able to understand what she was saying.
Even if I do a lot of action to mean something like a cupcake, the zero learner will never understand me because what I'm doing could mean anything. So it's better to show them realia. That's the shortest explanation you can do to a zero learner.
If I have 4 consecutive zero learner in the morning, I'd be so damn tired after that.
