    I love Daryl in this episode. Trying so hard to look unbothered telling Andrea about his time in the woods as a kid and you can tell he's lowkey getting more worried as time goes on.

      I agree. I feel like he was telling her that story almost as a means to reassure /himself/ that Sophia would be okay. I don't think everyone else giving up hope was what bothered him, but I think it's because he's a tracker and he might feel something like "okay, this is my thing and even I can't find her", and that probably deep down is making him lose hope too because he probably expects he of all people should have found her by now. I feel that the more he seems to start believing that, the more he pushes himself and the more desperate he starts to act. I know Lacey and Steve have seen the next episode by the time I'm posting this so I can mention this, but him going out alone to keep searching feels like part of that. He does really care for the people in this group. ;o; I love Daryl.

    I love how Shane represents that "do bad to achieve good" mentality. It's a really good representation of how certain choices would seem super crazy to us in everyday life or wouldn't even cross our minds but in the zombie apocalypse, it's crazy the choices some might make to stay alive or even for the greater good. Not saying I agree with his decision but looking at the bigger picture, I get it. Where I don't agree is that one would have to make a distinction of one person's life being more valuable than another's and that... that's just an insane thing to think about.

    • @Rakerong
      @Rakerong 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. I don't fault Shane for doing what he did by valuing his own life more important than Otis'. Shane's priorities were to survive and get back to his group and save Carl, though I am trying to recall if he was still trying to stay with them or leave at this point in the show. I think that Shane knew that he wasn't going to make it on that busted leg before the horde got them both. He knew he would have to be the one to stall and give Otis the chance to escape in this situation, so he had to think like a survivor and sacrifice Otis.

    To me, it seems like Shane idolizes Rick and sees him as a hero, coveting everything he [Rick] has. What he doesn’t possess of Rick’s, however, is his even, rational temperament. Shane, like me sometimes, acts on emotion. All he knows is that Carl will die without those supplies, and he will let nothing or nobody stop him from bringing them back. Poor Otis deserved better, but it is a choice between Otis or Carl in Shane’s mind. Not saying I agree with it, just saying this is probably how his mind was working. Chandler Riggs (Carl) did some superb acting in this episode.

      You can only say that if you know how far it is to the car though. And we don't. Also what if the walkers get to close behind them and all the sudden other walkers approach them from another direction? Great reaction guys, my take on the whole Shane situation is similar to what you guys touched on in your discussion.
    Shane and Otis were in a tough spot but the odds were still probably in their favour and they both possibly could've made it out alive.
    But I feel as if Shane's mindset was that even though there was a low chance for them both not to make it, the fact that there was even a slight chance at all was dangerous because of Carl's reliance on them. So it seemed as if he was trying to figure out a solution so that there would be a 100% chance that the medicine would reach Carl.
    And I guess his solution was that one of them would have to sacrifice themselves while the other leaves, and idk if you guys caught it because it's pretty quick and most people miss it but he actually offers to sacrifice himself and give Otis his bag minutes before but Otis doesn't let him. And he probably assumes as well that Otis wouldn't want to sacrifice himself so he makes the decision for Otis.
    Still though, super super cold blooded and just wrong + he coulda at least shot him in the head so he wouldn't have to suffer lol

    Rick's narrative, at the beginning of the episode - of Shane pranking their principle - is a big clue as to how things played out with Shane & Otis. Shane never intended for Otis to make it back. One way or another, Otis was going to die for shooting Carl. It was another one of his long drawn-out "pranks", just like Rick's story. That's the reason that monologue was included in the episode, in the first place.
    You're right. Shane had no good reason for shooting Otis. They had plenty of time.

They had no idea how any of this was gonna play out, and the fact that Shane told him "Sorry" suggests that he didn't want to have to do it but needed to so he could survive and get back to Carl with the supplies. I would actually think that Shane would tell Otis that this was gonna be payback for shooting Carl or something. It didn’t occur to me until recently but I bet the reason Daryl is the most adamant about finding Sophia is because of the story he told Andrea. His family was neglectful and didn’t care for him. When he went missing, no one was even AROUND to care. But when Sophia went missing, Carol was an absolute wreck. I bet seeing a parent actually care so much about their child got to him.
    I think it says a lot about his personality that when faced with a situation with that, his reaction wasn’t to go ‘this stupid little girl has it better than I did, she‘ll be fine’ but instead to go ‘I’m getting this little girl back to her worried mother’
    For a character that wasnt in the comics and wasn’t supposed to live long, they did a great job writing him.

I see Shane shooting Otis as the moment Shane realizes that he has the make the hard choices, the only problem being is that he saw himself as the only one who can make those choices, like as I said, an even darker version of Season 5 Rick.

      And in the on going lawsuit hes lawyer sayed

They wouldn't have been able to outrun the walkers for much longer and the truck was on the other side of the school. If the two of them had died, Carl would have died as well. Shane tried to sacrifice himself but Otis wouldn't leave him. He had no choice. Ether three people died or one person died. Simple as that. I had actually forgotten that Shane had offered to sacrifice himself first! Ergo, it can be said that he did it for Carl and not for self preservation. I think this adds to my "don't be too harsh on Lori's hooking up with Shane too soon" argument. It's the apocalypse and she has no skills so she latched onto someone who would do anything for her or her son. As much as I enjoy scaring people, I am a "women and children first" kind of guy. Unfortunately it's a fact that I would go MUCH further to protect those I thought of as mine than I would yours. "That's my partner's wife and kid" doesn't hold a candle to "that's the woman I'm shagging and the kid I've come to think of as my own." Okay, he's also a bit psycho. No one is perfect.
    Also, GOOD parents can be excellent choices to add to your survival team. Well, more so to a settled group than a group trying to find / set up a place. As long as you can keep them convinced that your group is their children's best chance of survival, you've got some strong soldiers/supporters that will give their all to the group. As a manager in the customer service industry, I know that it helps to be both a mediator and a manipulator as the situation calls for it.

I love to cook and I brew my own beer and wine. I have a medieval every day drinking ale recipe, it’s not for getting drunk on, it’s a source of clean drinking water. I’m no expert, not by a long shot, but I cure and smoke my own salami and bacon. I don’t like the stuff much, but I’m currently looking into making cheese. I can weave baskets from willow. I can fish. I can manage woodland, (coppicing, charcoal making, etc). I know about salt fermenting foods, so your kimchi’s and sauerkraut‘ soft the world. That’s about it I think.

    Otis had to be sacrificed for Carl he was only gonna get slower I don’t like the idea of it of course but it’s after he tried to sacrifice his own life I see it from Shane point of view a little more in that situation so if I was to go on a run like that I would make sure it’s someone who can keep up wit me

    Another fantastic episode and reaction. There seem to be even more cracks in ol' Shane now. For better or for worse. I feel bad for Otis. He truly tried his best, but when dealing Marvel's Punisher, it's best to keep fit and keep moving. Not much more to add. I'll be patiently waiting for the next installment. Til' then, keep on keeping on.

    This was such a huge moment in the early seasons for me. It was shocking, like despite everything Shane had done or thought of doing, he truly crossed a line this time. I don't know whether they would've made it out together or if that was the only way...

      the fact that they're dead and have no blood flow, I'm not so sure a stun gun would do anything to their nervous system or muscles.

    That situation with Shane u could say either side , as he was right for doing it as then he got to Carl by any means , but was obviously wrong for killing him for bait - they could have made it maybe

    • @Hard31337
      @Hard31337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JHolland The point was is that Shane is the type of dude who won't take chances if he doesn't have to. He didn't mind killing a person if it meant a guaranteed getaway vs. just a chance they both make it. It was to show who Shane is at heart.

  • @TomTomson81

    Shane does everything to help the people he loves and does not take any unnecessary risks. He optimizes his chances of survival in order to be able to help Carl. And if that means killing another person for it. He is a pragmatic. The look in the mirror shows the price that he unconsciously pays. He gets lost more and more in this way of survival. He made the decision late to kill Otis. The Walkers catch up with them because Otis isn't fast enough. So it becomes live feed as a distraction. The decision-making process started from the moment he lied to Otis with the remaining bullets. So he kept this option open. He would have taken Otis with him if it hadn't always looked worse for them. From his point of view, he did what was necessary to save Carl. The fact that otis was responsible for the whole situation also helped with the decision.

    One thing I don't think you understand... A person can give a lot more blood than what an organized blood drive allows. Organized blood drives are operated on the basis of "how much blood can you give without more than marginal impact on your ability to function normally?" A person can give blood at a drive about every 56 days, because it will allow the body time to recover. But in a desperate situation a person can give much more in a short time, it simply means the person who gives the blood will be significantly weakened and vulnerable.
    Enough blood for the kind of surgery Carl needed, without a proper operating room, full staff of a surgical team... Maybe, maybe not. But if it's your child that needs the blood, a decent parent takes the approach of "If it mean my child has a chance, take all you need."
