You "protect yourself at all times" is implying that you weren't "protecting yourself" because of the ref break. Even though there was no break because Alex shut it down. Then you touched gloves with Alex and threw a punch but got caught. You were always protecting yourself. Alex is just better. You're not beating him in the rematch. You said you'd knock him out the first time. It didn't happen and you weren't "controlling the fight" up til you lost either. He landed those leg kicks along with those body shots. Your comments about the fight are very similar to Strickland's comments after fighting Pereira: I was feeling pretty fine, I was doing a good job, I could see all his strikes comming, he only connected few body jabs and then... I was knocked out. The thing is that already happened, you could study it, the body jabs were a distraction to low your defense. But it seems you didn't do your homework, you were knocked out in the same way. Regarding the Herb Dean situation, if that was a distraction? Why did you threw a left hand before Pereira's left hook? The thing is that you missed it and Pereira connected you. That has nothing to do with "protect yourself at all times" excuse, you were aware of everything.

Alex waived Herb off after Hill’s foot connected with AP’s cup (wherever it landed last, the hollow sound of a steel/ plastic cup is incontravertibly audible).
Herb called “time out”. Alex hopped **once** simultaneously *as* Herb was calling “time out”.
Herb then called “time in” and Hill and Alex formally reengaged by *tapping gloves* then hand fought twice before alex faked a right as Hill threw his first left straight which Alex slipped and deflected before countering with a left shovel cut.
There was appox 3-4 seconds of hand-fighting after tapping gloves for Hill to have refocused.
Alex won the handle-battle and foot position before the time out was called. Hill was check-mated fair and square.
In a championship title fight one should never lose focus even for a millisecond. There are *no* excuses, ever (least of all headlining a historic UFC 300 PPV titlefight).

He faked a right to bring the 2 out and moved the head from center line while pulling the left hand of HIll down with his left and swing with the upperhut. If a guy can do 3 things at one, Hill can only prepare for one thing. He got outclassed.

Some fight analyst broke down your fight with Alex bro, he didn't just went for a lucky shot, he was building up to that moment and caught you not by mistake but by better strategy and better understanding of striking, it had nothing to do with 'protect yourself at all times' as you were throwing at the same time with Pereira when you missed and he caught you.
I watched the fight live and I was rooting for you, but it looked to me like you got scared when you were in there with Alex, and also I felt that he controlled the rhythm of the fight straight away, and I said right then and there that you were gonna lose and 2 minutes later you got KO'd. With the piss poor amounts the UFC pays, sadly these fighters need to take anything and everything they can while they can to at least make something to carry them. He knows his shelf life is almost up and he's got to get what he can get while they're getting is good.
