Eddie I also put Lavalock High Temp Nomex BBQ HT gasket smoker seal around the door it make a big difference, I’ll look for the Downdraft attachment it’s pretty cool , I’m fortunate as I live in San Diego Ca. Weather is not much of a factor here.
Question on the downdraft, it obviously will control the smoke output and the heat. Looks like there's a one inch or so Gap between the grill wall and the new downdraft device along with a adjustable airflow near the top. Anyway you can make a video showing or demonstrating the effect it had on your cook. Did it increase the smoke flavor in your meat? Great video thank you
What, at the beginning the smoke stack was on the left of the grill but when you installed the downdraft it was on the right side! Your shirt letters are backwards at the beginning! Funny!
Hi Eddie: I am curious as I am thinking about upgrading from an old Traeger Smith & Wesson .38 Special pellet one of the originals to a GMG Daniel Boone. I was curious if you think Dan Godkey's Downdraft for the GMG really makes a huge difference in how the food tastes and grill operates????? Thank you!
Its most definitely a difference. you can experiment for yourself once you get one, but i most definitely experienced less pellet usage at half choke and between temps of 200 - 275. It opens the door for some deep smoke attempts running at like 180 -190 for an hour and then ramping it up. its been a great addition to the arsenal and im thinking of adding one to the yoder ys640
@@EddieWrightBBQ Thanks for your help and insight. I have a 14 year old Traeger Smith & Wesson .38 Special grill which is just like the lil tex 075 model. Do you think that there is enough changes in technology and grill improvements to warrant buying a Daniel Boone Prime Plus grill? I can sell the 14 year old Traeger and maybe my old Kenmore Gas burner grill to get this. Also, do you worry about the lid on the DB Prime Plus or JB not closing tight? Would you recommend putting like a wood stove fireproof gasket around the lid? We will definitely order the Downdraft though for the new one but I wanted to pick your brain for a few moments on this decision. THANK YOU and Happy Holidays!
@@Elembytes I would not worry about the seal on the lid. I personally tried the gasket and it was too good. Meaning it sealed to tight and actually caused spiking and temperature overshoot. Although the metal is a thinner gauge green mountain designed the unit and the technology pretty solid so that the minor leaks you get won't hurt the end product and actually helps to let it breathe a little. I would upgrade. The tech has improved from 14 years ago.
Eddie have you ever heard of have heard of anyone having issues with a "Backdraft" on their pellet grills and causing a fire in the hopper box? I had emailed a dealer about the use of the downdraft and they said GMG discourages the use of a downdraft due to the danger of a backdraft in the grill. What can you tell me about this? Thank you!
@@Elembytes Well, I look at it this way. Just like tuners on diesels are discouraged by the factory so would anything else that the factory didn't create or test themselves. And I totally understand and respect the answer from GMG. I follow 3 simple rules. Keep the drip tray clean, Keep the grill clean, and never run the downdraft at full choke over 200 degrees. I have never had a backdraft problem following those 3 simple rules. Hope this helps.
Eddie - thanks for sharing! I’m about to do the downdraft upgrade to my GMG Jim Bowie Prime as well. Do you have an extended pellet hopper on yours? If so, which model did you get? Thank you!
Not yet, i have been researching one to see if its really gonna be in need for what im doing, and, honestly, i cant see why not lol. So yeah, its on the list of upgrades.
you know what @steven, That will be the update for tomorrow. Thank you so much for that question, and i will give a lot of in depth feedback on tomorrows episode. Stay tuned.
@@EddieWrightBBQ Awesome. I'd love to see if you can determine if it allows for more smoke over the meat as well as if it affects temperature and hot zones.
This is the one given to my by my dealer. If its wrong then I can address that with them. I want aware there was another optional one available. Got a little more insight on that for me.
@@EddieWrightBBQ for some reason my dealer did the same. The prime model should have a flap for the glass. And the hopper should not be covered with the thermal blanket. You should get a swap for sure from your dealer
Love my GMG. Great additions for sure.
I didn't know the downdraft upgrade existed. Thank you!
Great video! Thanks. I'll be building my own downdraft for sure.
I am finally getting this thing ready for cold weather and just in time. Stay tuned for the results from the Backyard Invitational guys.

Super cool idea man. I bet you could bend one up on a sheetmetal bender use some 23 gauge.
Thank you Sir I had no idea, about this upgrade,

Sure and most definitely will do. Now granted this will be my honest opinion analysis.
Great video Eddie!
Thank you.
Does the Don Godke increase the amount of smoke flavor?

thanks for stopping by. .a few camera tricks i added or forgot to add rather. All in all, a good session.
What is the purpose of the downdraft modification?
Add binder clips to keep tight to door😉
Great idea!

So is it worth getting mate? I am looking at upgrading from my PB820FB and getting a GMG DB Prime and was wondering if the downdraft was worth it
@@danudefish It is well worth the investment @matt
Where did you get the racks for the inside?
It came with the unit. A small add on they sell.
Where can you buy this from the smoke downdraft
dongodkesdowndraft.com
What's Off Beat ? Nice sweater
taeB ffO before the downdraft install begins.
Why is this reversed? The hoppers are on the Left and smoke stacks are on the right.
Just a little editing magic
Thats not the right thermal cover
