Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

It's so interesting because this is the first album under the watchful eye of social media. I have never seen so many negative people "attack" Enya and her music. "It's too repetitive", "it's not your best work". As if they're the authority on her music.

Thank you Enya. Her music and voice is a bandage on a wounded soul.
I'm an artist. I did not persue my art for 30 years because I thought it was frivolous. Then I remembered how Enya is what got me through some of the darkest years of my life. Even before this wonderful song existed! One day, in mid life, I thought "if Enya's songs helped me so much, who's to say my art wouldn't help at least one person"? So I changed my career. It took a decade to do that, but I don't regret it.
That is inspirational, be true to your calling and give it all you are made of!! I have also put aside creative passions,Im a musician and writer mainly, but I have realized how important it is to me to do it and do it well and am recommitting. It was something i felt i had to push back until other things were settled. I couldnt commit to it you could say. Frustrated so deeply. Enyas music has helped me through the hardrst times in my life, helped to reinspire me as a musician.

"Every song is a journey" Yes exactly, well put! Perhaps if more people gave it a chance and listened a little closer, and not on the surface, they wouldn't be so bitter. Egad, what they must be like to be that way. Ok, so maybe Enya isn't for everyone, listen to something that inspires and uplifts you, not full of angst, anger and turmoil. For me, listening to Enya has helped lift me through some dark and troubled times and has continued to bring joy. When I was a teenager in the 90s I loved listening to Enya but I was certain that I eventually would mature past her music. It's been over 20 years since I was a teenager and I'm a glad I put away my childish belief about "maturity" because Enya is fantastic.

I've adored Enya and her music since I was a very small child. My older siblings would play her music for me to keep me calm as a toddler. To this day, all these many years later, her music still has the same effect. I, of course have some favorites, but who doesn't? I will forever listen to her music to stay sane
