I have never enjoyed people and horses dying in horrific explosions more than I have today. Truly my eyes have now been opened to the glory of the Hojo Fire Rockets.
The fire rockets were mostly used in anti-ship role, more precisely for setting fire to enemy ships. It even become kind of standard Japanese vessel equipment (to the point even pirates used it). Earlier wersions of this weapon probably were used on land more ofthen.
This preview for the Nippon DLC for Warhammer 3 looks great. I had no idea they have a portable Hellstorm Rocket Battery unit! On a serious note regarding to whether Fire Rocket being a thing during Sengoku Jidai: It was recorded that Kobayakawa Takakage, son of Mori Motonari once made use of modified regular matchlocks that shot explosive rockets. I don't know if it worked like it does here but it could have been what inspired the unit in the game.
They are worth picking up a couple if you are doing something like going for Heavy Gunners. They out range even bow warrior monks, force the enemy to come to you, and they can delete enemy cav/general instantly. They pair very well with units such as heavy gunners. Also for Otomo Fire Rockets+Donderbuss+Tercos is a nasty combination.
Ive been enjoying an Oda campaign with my armies being long yari, matchlock, and fire rockets. The fire rockets force the enemy to come to you. Matchlocks will shred the enemy, and long yari will keep them at a distance. Armor upgrade for yari and accuracy upgrades for matchlock and yari of course. Is it the most efficient in single player campaign? No. Is it helluva lot of fun once you get your armies going? Yes.
Im a simple man i see big explosions and a lot of enemy casualties and i like the video thats why up to these day i still rewatch the artillery only campaing at least twice a year xD
What do you mean? I said specifically that I *did* change my mind about them, and I made a video a week after that video specifically talking about how I changed my mind. I'm confused. This video is the one I talked about: th-cam.com/video/VsIKTX_8aoM/w-d-xo.html And I even made a new Top 5 Worst Units a year ago or something in which I didn't place them, I also made a video ranking the siege units in the game in which they placed them at #1. I'M SO CONFUSED!
Yes, fire rockets were a thing in Asia, although they were a form of artillery rather than hand-held. I have no idea if they were actually used in Japan. As far as I can tell, they were mostly there for psychological effect and not capable of moving down enemy soldiers. Edit: another commenter found the bo-hiya, which looks a lot like the fire rockets in the game. TIL!
I read about bo hiya which is got similar looking missile like weapon. Actually the weapons appears in the disney mulan movie and ghiblis monoke princess was fire rockets i guess
@@tushigbat5758 great find, I thought the fire rockets unit used handheld rockets instead of ones mounted from guns. I hope Mr smart Donkey sees your comment.
my Hojo campaign was basically over by the time I got the fire rockets so it felt more like an endgame reward to bully anyone that still opposed me. I usually start battles by deleting the enemy general with the fire rockets.
I was so excited for the hojo hand mortar appreciation post after seeing the word Hojo in the title, until I realized it was the fire rockets and not hand mortars :(
I have always loved fire rockets because their power level is just absurd. They delete all cav in seconds, and infantry isn't safe either. Even a barrage that mostly "misses" can wipe 50 or so men from a unit, which is obscene and can't be ignored by anything in the game. Combine that with godly range and it's honestly a little hysterical. EDIT: And as I was writing this, 2 Hojo Fire Rockets defending a Castle of mine deleted 421 men from their lives... With one killing the enemy general in the literal opening seconds. Turned what would have been a super bloody fight into a merciless stomp.
Best of luck raising a family! It’s the ultimate, most rewarding challenge. Off topic, I notice you have yet to do a FOTS campaign as the Tosa. Is there such a campaign in the works or near future?
Not sure if you'd read this but, Fire rockets were a thing back then though not used as much. They were called "Bo-hiya" or Fire arrows and not rockets and they did use a similar matchlock as the shimazu heavy gunners use or a stationary cannon to shoot them
As for the explosion animations, I doubt they'd use animated gifs. More likely a spritesheet animation or such. Spritesheet animations are optimized for GPU, with the whole animation put on a single texture. I've seen animated gifs used in game dev, but that would be mostly game-maker style games, where the assumption is that the person making the game has little technical knowledge, so they use animated gifs to make it easier, and then the engine might optimize it behind the scenes, perhaps.
Late game shenanigans with fun death stacks of 20 fire rockets accompany by 20 yari ashigaru. 1/ set up fire rockets line then started the battle 2/ Yari ashigaru reinfrocement immediately go yari wall in front of fire rockets. 3/ profit
I appreciate that your life is going places my dude. Married and having a son in due time. Be the Best Husband, Father, and Shogun for your Family!
emotionally supportive japanese hype man be like "My lord a glorious life will soon be yours!"
Honestly, I'd love to see how the Date Bulletproof Samurai square up against gunpowder units; including Fall of the Samurai ones.
I think I might be able to make that happen.

Yeah, they're great if you go for the tech, it just sucks that the tech takes so long to acquire.

Those explosions are giving me Angelfire gif vibes and I'm all for it. Only makes me appreciate Fire Rockets more.

Unrelated, but it's kinda impressive how many effective anti-cav units there are in Shogun 2 and yet they're still pretty effective.
Glad to see you’re getting more sponsors and thanks for the video!
Thanks man, I think these videos are perfect for those sponsored videos too, and with a baby on the way I need all the sponsors I can get. :D
I dont know how you could put these guys in the worst 5 and never changed your mind about it!

Our fire rockets will blot out the sun.

This is what I have been waiting for
Im happy that i asked for this
ah yes the hojo fire rockets, essentially the "japanese michael bay on crack unit" .
After this I have to pay the Firerockets much more attention!!
my Hojo campaign was basically over by the time I got the fire rockets so it felt more like an endgame reward to bully anyone that still opposed me. I usually start battles by deleting the enemy general with the fire rockets.
6:26 did you see the rocket go through the unit and the trail of blood? Damn, didn't know the kinetic projectile itself can kill

I'll appreciate how crap they are soon enough I'm sure :D
Hmm didnt you mod the united details or is it only the map ?
6:21 Spot the stormtrooper!

Big boom boom be based
I hate the way arrows in three kingdoms look like flying
The arrow graphics of three kingdoms and Troy's are absolute disgrace
As well as Rome 2, Atilla, Thrones of Britannia, etc. I don't know what they did to mess it up after Shogun 2, but they did.
Not even mentioning the gif being drawn behind units but in front of the smoke smh
RPG ? its a fucking katyusha you got there.
