1st time I've ever downloaded new Photoshop while I'm mid-project. I told it to save my settings, and it seems to be working really well - cross fingers. It opened at the exact same spot I had finished working on the previous day - same colors, same brushes. I complained at them about the bar jumping around, even after it was pinned, when it was in beta. I must not have been the only one. I'm so glad they fixed it. I love being able to remove something without cloning in a background by hand. What they're doing now is so exciting - and useful. Thanks so much for your tutorial and updates!
From what I understand if you're on the Photo Plan with Adobe you get 250 generative fills per month after which you will be charged ( I believe the charging starts from November). From what I've experienced so far the result aren't that good and you will use up a credit each time, even if the results are poor. Also to get around the resolution problem it will be necessary to use a lot of the generative fill credits. So if you do a lot of editing it's possible to go over your limit and be charged.
Nathan Cool Photography. Also if you look at the payment plans on your Adobe account it shows how many generative fills you're entitled to. If you have the full Creative Cloud suite you have 1000 per month@@MONTY-YTNOM

Any reason why the new gradient tool doesn’t follow the colour swatch in the tool bar when hitting x to change between b&w for eg? I have to manually change it in the top tool bar and now it’s a slower process.
Good vid. Nice to see it posted quickly after the v25 release. One note about the new live gradients on masks: You can resolve the issue of cleaning up to mask "bleed" onto the sky, in your example, by simply creating a Group containing the LUT layer and adding a mask to the Group which hides the "bleed" over the sky. You could, in fact, create a nested set of Groups, each with its own gradient mask to add an addition "spotlight" and then the solid "mask the sky" mask on the top Group. Each of the gradients could then remain live and editable.
I've been using the Generative Fill in Beta for a while to remove items because it generates a higher resolution fill than other tools, so I'm glad its in Photoshop 2024. But I really like the new gradient tools you demonstrated. I can see how you could use them to create a lighted area in my landscape shots. Thanks

Thank you so much for this! As a commercial artist, I love your tutorials and highlights on all things PS, and you convey the information in a clear and concise way without all the fluff that otherwise wastes peoples time.
Is the line due to the resolution differential between the original and the generate iterations? It is, I know, if you zoom in easy to see the resolution disparity, but I have never seen an actual "line".
An easier fix is to go to the generative fill layer mask, click on it and apply some gaussian blur. This will soften the transition between the generative fill Layer and your other pixel layers 😉
They should overlap. The generated fill needs to be ABOVE the layer you used to generate the fill for the overlap to work. For example if you have layer 1 then make a duplicate layer, let's call it layer 2. (which appears above layer 1). If you then generate from layer 1 the generated layer will be above layer one but below layer 2 Layer 2 will be above the generated fill and you see the edge. Turn off layer 2 and the edge disappears because the generated layer overlaps layer 1.
@@erik1836 its not a "line" per say but you can clearly see where the original image stops and the generative fill begins, maybe a resolution issue as said below and i am using the gaussian blur method to get rid of it but its not perfect. i will try the other methods below aswell thank you.!

Is there a way to update where that doesn't happen? It's a pain to have to reinstall everything each year. Thanks for your help in advance.
Can generative fill be 'guided' to use files or objects in files you have stored locally on the same computer? Or is it just using Adobes stock references?
No, it can’t. It’s not photo-bashing an existing image into your image. It uses the AI process of diffusion to create brand new images. The AI model was trained on Adobe Stock, so it only learned from what it saw there.
Thank you. I'm a bit confused: in my Adobe updates, I now have both v 24.7.1 (PS 2023) and v 25.0 (PS 2024). Should I continue using both or can I remove PS 2023?

Windows 10 won't recognize 2024 in the default panel. I can't double click an image in Explorer and have it open in PS I can only open jpg files from within PS 2024.
Great update Colin thank you! Is there any way to reveal the generative fill layers only? My thought is to export those layers and use a third-party program like Topaz to increase the resolution of the generative fill layers to match the original image. Any thoughts on that process?
When attempting your gradient tool demo, I never get the "light" like you do. I have everything set the same way that you do, but I only get the circle when I attempt to drag the circle, no matter the size. It only stays dark. Any suggestions? Thanks
The 1024x1024 limit... is this also the case when using the "enhance" and "AI denoise" in lightroom? Because the preview DNG at least is only 1024x1024. But yet somehow the image I am working with still looks high res. Or is lightroom de facto upscaling a 1024p image to blend with my 42 mpxl RAWs? I've tried googling on this but cant really find any answer to this.
They use a different approach to the generative fill and both work at the resolution of the original image. Obviously if you use the super resolution function of enhance then that is upscaling.
@@ianmearsphoto well yeah, but I mean how come the file it creates is only 1024p. Or is that just a preview? And in the background lightroom 8s working with a full resolution image?
@@Wistbacka I'm a bit confused here. It doesn't create any 1024p file. When you click the 'enhance' button in the dialog box it creates a .dng file at the same resolution as the original RAW file (unless using super resolution which creates one double the size). The dialog box itself contains a preview image showing a tiny section of the image so you get an idea on the result but that isn't a file you can use.
@@ianmearsphoto if you check the original file location you can see the dng next to the original raw. And for me this is a 1024p image. But I suspect this might be just a preview, but simultaneously I dont know what the purpose of that would be.
Is there any way for Adobe to embed it into the metadata or the file itself to show that the picture was edited with Generative AI to prevent people from claiming a picture was not faked? Something that’s not removable
Great video, Colin, thank you. What about "patterns"? The white brick got a little wonky after applying the Remove Tool. Yes, we can repair that with "old school" techniques. LOL Sometimes, I've re-applied the Remove Tool, and the pattern fixes itself. Sometimes it does not. ;) Just an observation. I really enjoy these!!!
Generative fill is good, but there needs to be a way to save the generated image and to apply that to another image. For example, a rum product shot where you generate a background of a beach with people sun bathing. Then you have another coconut rum which was shot later in the year but you want the same background. If there was a way to apply the elements and have it blend, that would be perfect.
I updated Photoshop but it does not work with my Lighroom. If I tries to moove a picture with my Lighroom work into Photoshop nothing happends. I have to moove the original picture to get it to Photoshop. I installed the Beta again så now it works. But only with Beta.
I had the same issue. I uninstalled the beta, photoshop, and lightroom. When you uninstall make sure you click on (Keep)so you don't lose your preferences. Restart your computer. Install Lightroom first then Photoshop. Everything should work now.
If you go to security settings and grant LR and PS all access to the OS, the problem will be fixed, if you are running OSX. Had the same problem and this fixed the problem for me🙏🏻

Thank you for your content.
Thanks for your videos. May I delete the beta version?
if you want
Great update Colin thank you! Is there any way to reveal the generative fill layers only? My thought is to export those layers and use a third-party program like Topaz to increase the resolution of the generative fill layers to match the original image. Any thoughts on that process?
Duplicate layer to new document. Hmm, maybe a good topic for a future tutorial :)
@@Wistbacka you are looking at your preview image. Lightroom uses a different system and they are full res
Is there any way for Adobe to embed it into the metadata or the file itself to show that the picture was edited with Generative AI to prevent people from claiming a picture was not faked? Something that’s not removable
Already done
Dear Colin Smith
Thanks again for a wonderful tutorial.👍♥
Happy to help!
Great video, Colin, thank you.
What about "patterns"?
The white brick got a little wonky after applying the Remove Tool.
Yes, we can repair that with "old school" techniques. LOL
Sometimes, I've re-applied the Remove Tool, and the pattern fixes itself. Sometimes it does not. ;)
Just an observation. I really enjoy these!!!
easy enough to fix
Generative fill is good, but there needs to be a way to save the generated image and to apply that to another image. For example, a rum product shot where you generate a background of a beach with people sun bathing. Then you have another coconut rum which was shot later in the year but you want the same background. If there was a way to apply the elements and have it blend, that would be perfect.
Load your old image, remove rum add new drink.
You can easily export it out as a png
I ONLY use Generative AI - so I only have Beta installed. Must I now uninstall beta and use full Photoshop ?
You can use both. Main PS should be more stable
Thanks a lot @@photoshopcafe
Had the same problem and this fixed the problem for me🙏🏻
It worked. Thanks! @@YoHam513
Reset you Lightroom preferences . Hold down alt/shift/ctrl as you launch. That should fix it
Good video. My issue with PS is that i have models wearing more than the 1st picture you used and it says i violated guidelines so i dont really use AI much now
Thanks, generative fill no longer beta is my favorite.
