Killing off Noah has to be one of the first thing I've truly hated about the show, I understand that this is a tough world but narratively, why keep up the trend of setting up a character for more only to kill them off. It makes me subconsciously not care for the characters cuz they could just die in the middle of their arcs so what's the point
The death of Noah kinda proved Gimple had really no idea what to do with his character. If you don’t know, the actor who played Noah was originally supposed to only be in 3 episodes before he was extended. Now this isn’t new. The actor who played T-Dog had the same thing. But what did we really get with Noah? Essentially a rehashed storyline of Beth’s of having a weak character become strong, but worse. What did he really do past season 5 episode 8? Not much. Out of the 6 episodes, 3 are in which nothing of significant happens. Given the character roster at the beginning of season 5, Tyreese should have been the one to die in Episode 14, while Noah should have stayed behind at the hospital with Beth staying on. It would have been a bitter sweet moment where although he wasn’t able to find his family, he was able to help reunite someone else’s while showing he’s strong. A shorter, but more mendable character, kinda like Otis in season 2.
@@Xpertfusion You have to kill off characters in the correct way tho simply giving time for couple episodes and killing them suddenly leaves sour taste in mouth. The reasons why Shane, and Hershel death hit so hard is because even though we spent so much couple seasons with them we knew them and it felt the story needed there deaths to progress forward. I'm not saying keeping Noah alive until season 11 but if you killing him off for just shock value and in the context that Glenn will die soon next season makes really just shock value. If they wanted someone to die to give drama between Glenn and Spencer I think killing Tara would've been better because she doesn't do much until she dies in season 9 like nothing important another character can't do and really wasn't a fan favorite. Noah it felt like the plot was giving him set up to become a fan favorite and have important storylines in future, but decided to kill him.
This has to be by far the best Walking Dead breakdown series, I found The Walking Dead through the show, and read all the comics while waiting for season 7 or 8 to come out, love the comparisons and how time goes by without noticing while watching these videos
It’s the best lol I stopped watching in season 4 and five years and years ago but absolutely love this ! So much work and care put into it and you can tell 🙏
Carl’s monologue telling Lydia about the first time he called Andrea “mom” has to be one of the best moments in the entire book run. Carl admits to killing Ben and Andrea immediately says “I love you” in response, making Carl realize that Andrea was now his mom. Carl’s little speech was pretty much the catalyst for the entire Whisperers arc, it helped convince Lydia that the Whisperers were assholes.
That speech actually takes place after the whisperer arc. It happens when Carl and Lydia are looking upon Andrea's grave and Carl is reminiscing. Still a very impactful moment after building up to Andrea potentially discovering what Carl had done. A beautiful moment.
@@adhirg i’m a new comic reader and i’ve just finished the whisperer arc, that monologue takes place after Andrea’s death which is several issues after the whisperer war ends, not trying to be passive aggressive or anything. just wanted to let you know
@@ac-st7rk ah then I got it confused with a different moment. what did the speech convince Lydia to do? there was something she decided to help with after hearing Carl talk, but it’s been a minute since I read the novels so I’ve forgotten what it was lol!
I’ll never forgive gimple for killing Carl and then kill the guy carl killed himself for 2 seasons later. I’m sure Lincoln would’ve felt motivated to stay longer if they didn’t kill Carl or even if he left anyways, we could have an older Carl be the main character instead of it being this weird main characterless show that’s afraid to kill long-standing characters. Judith has only shown up like 4-5 times since Michonne left.
Hell, if they didn't stretch March To War/All Out War into two Seasons as well as The Whisperers Story, Walking Dead could've ended with 9 Seasons, with Rick being around of both The Whisperers and Commonwealth stories.
There are 5 character deaths i hated. Carl, Jesus, Siddiq, Noah and Beth. I didn't like beths death because her character had just become a very strong survivor, noah died in the middle of his arc, Carl and siddiq are obvious and finally Jesus' death pissed me off because he was criminally under used and his relationship with aaron was established off screen
Andrew Lincoln wanted to leave the show because he wanted to spend more time with his family. So much of his life was spent filming, and while he's still busy with the films; he's nowhere near as busy as he was when he was the main character of a tv show for a decade.
Fun fact: the episode in which Noah dies aired on Greg Nicotero’s birthday. If you know his history, you’ll know he got his start apprenticing under the great Tom Savini. So as a bday present to him, Noah’s death was done with all practical effects, no cgi. I remember being thrilled to see practical effects being used in such a manner, but it hurt, as I really loved Noah’s character.
If we had followed Alexandria from the beginning and Rick said the take this place line, that’d make him pretty villainous which really drives the whole “everyone is a hero and villain to someone else in the ZA” point across
People misunderstand this! ***Rick is using this as Plan B! It's Not Taking Over! Rick sees these people are Not Prepared, Haven't lived Outside, Don't have Rick's Group Skills! Thus, Rick says if things Fall About, then & Only then, he will step in. But, listen to what Rick says in Episode 516, Conquer: Rick says they will have to learn, Luck Runs Out. Pretending that Rick was already Taking Over, is Overreaching & Silly.
Love these things bro, you keep me going at work. This was my brothers and I show before he went Off to deployment, I kinda stopped watching after he left which was around season 8. I love ur breakdowns and they bring me back to good times. Thank u
Finally caught up on this amazing series. I don't think anyone has covered The Walking Dead's books and adaptation as in-depth as you, and it has certainly paid off. It was really fun to be reminded of both stories after years of not experiencing them. Cannot wait for the rest of this analysis :)
As a non comic book reader, I remember this being where my attention started to fall off and where I think the shows cracks started to appear. I agree that some of the best episodes were in this season but also some of the most forgettable or frustrating episodes where it felt like we were being taken in circles. I used to watch on cable week to week so whenever an episode led to no progression it was especially frustrating and this long season liked its cliffhangers! I'm sure binge watching it might help out this issue so I might give it another go!
I feel like this is one of the seasons where every episode did lead to progression though. This is the season with the most storylines, they litteraly only had time for one episode of the group surviving on the road before reaching Alexandria, that's how fast things were going and progressing. The lack of progression is more of a Season 7 and 8 problem, which I feel could've been very easily condensed into one season, Season 7 being the first 8 episodes, Season 8 being the last 8
It's crazy that, for as long as the show has gone on, your series is legitimately the best breakdown series in regards to comparing comic stories and the show stories. Seriously, great work, I love these videos, and 40 minutes is just too short!
You forgot about that one wacky bonus storyline at the end when Rick gets bonked where Rick gets teleported into a different dimension and fights off space governor 😂
Tbh, I always thought the Rick, Jessie and Pete storyline in the show was executed weirdly. Rick seemed to be holding back killing Pete before he even knew that he was abusing Jessie, he just sees them, Rick waves and Jessie and she waves back, and Pete turns her away, and Rick reaches for his gun. Maybe it's supposed to illustrate his survival instinct kicking in, he's so used to having to kill people and grabbing his gun in dangerous situations, but it just felt weird that he would even think about killing Pete before knowing the facts. Then in the next episode Pete talks to Rick and tension builds between them as he sees what kind of man he is, and then Carol tells him that Pete is beating Jessie and tells him they'll have to kill him, a far cry from Carol in season 1 🤣. But when Rick confronts Jessie about it and tells her that he can help get her out of this situation, after Deanna talks him out of killing Pete, she asks if he would do this for anyone. And he says no. NO. NO?!?! WTF?! Is the show seriously telling us that Rick, who was a cop before the apocalypse, who's literal job it was to keep people safe, who cares so much about his family that he would kill himself for them, that has led these people to safety throughout all their trials and hardships, someone who, while having to commit some immoral acts, is deep down a good man trying to do the right thing, is saying that if it wasn't Jessie, he wouldn't help her?! That the only reason he's saving her from an abusive husband is because he has a crush on her???? I never understood this. Maybe someone can explain it to me, maybe you will ten minutes from now 🤣, but the whole thing was done so weirdly and in a way that seemed out of character for Rick
It was to draw parallels to Shane, show how much Rick was becoming like him imo, and showing that Shane was a reflection of what the world would become
Rick was instantly ready to kill him immediately which I think freaked him out because he was trying to not be that killer but then is proved his gut was right with Reggies death
I agree you’re 100% right abt the whole thing being weird. Possibly I think Rick saying no could be a weird flirting tactic ??? Or maybe he thinks that’s what she wants to hear ? As if she’s saying oh like I’m not special you’d do this for anyone and he’s like no I wouldn’t 🤷♀️ I think for whatever reason he said no it was a lie bc ur right he would help anyone I think
@@shiftdb I always felt that's how it first was. Like he was back in a normal world, but the world outside turned him hard and made him think he needs to do drastic things to survive. But then when he finds out the abuse, that's when his morality kind of clicks in. Still though, he was so gun-ho for her at first it was weird...
The Black guys ALWAYS die in most horror shows/movies. T-Dawg, Tyrese, Noah, Bob. That Noah death Really pissed me off as we just seen Beth needlessly get her brains blown out some episodes earlier, not to mention a weak AF death for Tyrese. "This shit is a horror flic, but the Black guy doesn't die in this movie."
i get your point but you can’t really say that about the walking dead considering plenty of white and asian etc.. characters also die? it’s not limited to black men (plus several black characters make it to the end)
Walking dead started having an issue in the adaptation right around here building up characters to just throw them away for shock value. Like you said all his story with reg and Beth ended up adding to nothing he was the cherry on top of waisted potential right after the missteps with Beth and tyrese have to say this is where my interest in the show decreased
I do love the foreshadowing in the book when Douglas asks Michonne to hand over her sword only for Olivia to dismiss it since “anything can be a weapon. My kitchen knives even.” A couple issues before Pete uses one to kill Regina
Which is much better than how the show handled reg’s death Since asshole neighbor used michone’s sword to do it A: I doubt michone even as comfortable as she is in Alexandria would ever make her house or her sword sword easily accessible to crazy douchebags. Especially after having already been informed that there’s one nearby And B: what is the point of using michone’s sword? What did that add in any way shape or form? I’d completely forgotten about it until I finally watched the show again. What was asshole neighbor even doing in michone’s house?
Dude I know I'm always here in these comments but I just gotta say I'm absolutely LOVING this series. I just passed season 5 again so looking back on it a third time with your perspective after already having done my own analysis, it's so interesting to see how someone else besides myself interprets these events. Also, I noticed something really small as a mistake that you made. In "The Supply Run" section, you mentioned that Glenn was making the run with Deanna's son, Spencer. It's a really small detail, but it was actually Deanna's son Aiden. I thought you'd wanna know that just for clarity sake. Love the videos and I can't wait for the next one!
I STRONGLY believe that this is one of the arcs of the comic that the show did a lot better than the source material. The Anderson family, introduction to Alexandria (and the adaption of Deanna and Reg) and Rick’s breakdown + build up to the execution of Pete are all elevated even more in the TV version.
Oh I've been waiting for this video, i love this seaon. I stumbled upon your channel a couple of weeks ago and I love it, been binge watching all of these. I've searched for a Walking Dead channel like this one for years now, i always wanted to see deep dive reviews of each season and being a fan of both the show and the comics since day one, I gotta say i really like your content here. And to be honest I pretty much feel the same as you do with many stuff on both versions, I pretty much agree with most of your points of view, for example my personal favorite of your videos is the Season 2 one. Can't wait to see your take on the next seasons, cheers mate!
5:21 as a plumber I occasionally wonder how I could best put my skills to use in such an apocalypse given that sanitary, drinkable water (ie potable) and waste disposal are a VITAL pillar of society. So as a plumber I gotta ask…. How the FUCK do they have running water?? I guess most people don’t think about it but running water, supplied to home sinks the way it is currently, requires a pressurized, systematic grid. Basically you need electricity to keep turbines and the whole system moving as intended. If there is no pressure from a central plant water CANNOT be pushed to your home and out the spout. The effort required to create an off-grid plumbing system delivering POTABLE water to dozens of individual homes would require not only an insane amount of work and manpower but also either a VERY experienced plumber, hydroelectric engineer, or incredible knowledge and ingenuity of a layman to plan out. I’m not sure how “off grid” Alexandria was before the apocalypse but they certainly had electricity and used contemporary plumbing systems even if they used all Septic tanks for disposal. Basically you would need to convert or build a water tower of some kind, figure out a way to keep it full AND covered to prevent vermin contamination. Then you would need to figure out a way to make a LARGE air admittance valve to pressurize the flow downward into your rerouted water supply system. Oh and the faucet pressure would be terrible. Shit man I bet I could write a better spinoff than Fear on this premise alone. The supply runs to build this kind of shit could take entire seasons. Trade deals, bartering, knowledge exchange. Man that would be awesome. Edit also as an aside I find it hilarious how “poufy” Aaron’s hair is in the comic.
I’m no expert man, but I did have a class on this in physics, well in the show they specify they had solar panels if I remember correctly, and idk if they specified this but I’d guess just like a well, they dug until they struck a water source and I guess just created a sort of system from there, Deanna and reg explained to the group at the beginning how Alexandria before the ZA was meant to be a self sufficient community, and they used the materials for a mall nearby to build the rest, so I’m guessing that’s the explanation but like I said, I’m no expert bro
Love the videos, bro! Again, the best show vs comic analysis out there and exactly what I’ve always wanted! I haven’t read the comics, so even though I have always heard some things about the comics and the most blatant differences between the two mediums, I don’t know everything. These videos are amazing and I thoroughly enjoy them! The amount of time and effort you put into these cannot be overstated. Major praise from me, man! Keep it up and I’ll be here for this whole ride!
I think what you say about Noah's is the one of the biggest arguments and complaints about the show thematically and narratively. TWD is a show set in the zombie apocalypse and the expectation is that anyone can die. Indeed that is what made the show so compelling in the early seasons, that constant sense of dread and unexpectedness because no one was safe and you couldn't get too attached to anyone, much like with GOT. However, over time, I feel like the show became more about killing off characters for shock value rather than it making sense narratively, and it usually involved giving a side character more screentime leading up to it, baiting the audience into thinking they would play a bigger role, and killing them off before reaching their full potential. We knew that the top main lead characters were probably never going to die, especially after say season 3 or 4 when most of the OG's had already been killed off, and so the secondary and tertiary characters were fair game. But even then, over the seasons, more and more great characters were killed off until you realised there was no one left you actually liked or cared about unless you're a Daryl and Carol fan, and with Carl's death, Rick's departure and Michonne leaving soon after, I think a lot of people lost interest and tuned out, if they hadn't already from Glenn's death or how mediocre season 7 and 8 were. And the ironic thing is that most people now complain that not enough big characters have died in the last 2 seasons, but I think that's because they had already killed off so many, they want to hold onto the ones that are left. Youre never going to please everyone, that much is clear, but I do think that a lot of the deaths from season 5 onwards were unnecessary and or poorly executed, whereas the deaths in season 1-4, barring Andrea, made sense for the story and made for phenomenal television, and made the remaining characters better. Beth, Tyreese and Noah especially were so wasted
Well said. Although Noah is what I consider is a worse version of T-Dog. As both actors were only supposed to be on for a few episodes before their role expanded. Although not perfect their were some fun T-Dog moments in seasons 2-3. Where as we get basically a rehashed storyline that Beth had about a weak teenager being strong, but worse. I’ve always argued he should have been an Otis character, short but sweet. And considering the actor playing Noah was only hired for 3 episodes, his storyline could have easily ended with him staying behind at the hospital, allowing Beth to continue on and have Tyreese take Noah’s death.
Season 9-11 I think they been doing deaths better like the characters they killed mostly the side unimportant character except for like 2. Like I remember after the prison they really just killed off fanfavorites for no other reason than I suspect was shock value. Like in early seasons the major deaths we spent seasons with these characters like no one majored died season 1 and everyone loves that season. We spent a couple seasons with most of the major people who died in early days and there death while shocking felt natural story wise. Like the characters they been killing past couple scenes most are forgettable side characters besides a couple but when they kill the side characters off they make it memorable like Alpha putting there heads on spikes. Like no one whose head on spikes I gave a crap about but the way the scene was shot and characters reactions gave me more chills than most deaths in the show.
@@darriusbethea2373 I can’t really blame Angela Kang for that. She was pretty much given what was left after the blood baths both Glenn Mazzarra and Scott Gimple did to most large characters.
@@ryanelliott71698 I'm not she being doing a great job given what she had to deal with. I blame those guys and it crazy it took that many seasons for a replacement showrunner.
Unfortunately Carl's actor simply wasn't up to par compared to the other master actors on screen and what few lines he did have often took me out of the scene because the difference in skill was so jarring. This isn't his fault. He got the role of a lifetime at a very young age and history has shown that messes with your head and just like any other profession it's almost unfair comparing a child to people who have been honing their craft for decades before their big break. But none of that changes the jarring difference in skill. It was even more unfair he was often paired directly with the superb Andrew Lincoln. Glenn had the same problem first season but he got to hone his craft while paired with other less amazing actors and since he was an adult he could focus on perfecting his skills instead of school and growing up and by season 3-4 he could hold his own even beside Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln. Today you could even argue he's one of the best working actors out there.
Yeah people wanted him to be the new main character but I don’t even think Chandler Riggs was prepared for that. It seems he didn’t take his acting as serious as he got older and didn’t learn anything from watching his scene partners like Andrew Lincoln act.
@@berserk4souls yeah and like I said to be fair he was a kid so acting not being his number one priority isn't really a knock against him and pretty understandable. It was just jarring on screen because he was almost always paired with legends like Neegan, Rick, Shane or Daryl so it was really noticable. He definitely could not have carried the show as the main character and killing him off though controversial was a smart decision.
The Rick/Pete fight scene has to be one of my top TWD moments. The way Andrew Lincoln acts that scene is just too good. His expressions and gestures during the "We need to *control* who lives here" and "You're gonna kick *ME* out?" lines are just so brilliant. Awesome retrospective again. I very much agree with the plot on Noah. After losing Beth to save him, losing Ty to the walkers, and setting up his future plots, it just seems like such a "Gotcha, he's dead too!" moment.
Tbh as someone who watched the show first then read the comics, I like both for different reason. And each has issues for me but also have some of my fav parts in different areas I can’t even choose a favorite but I understand why people have theirs
I have absolutely loved these videos, these got me back into the swing of The Walking Dead right before Season 11 Part 2 and man this season has brought some PEAK TWD imo. But, I want to say I like how broken apart these videos are! With how complex the storylines diverge and pop in and out between seasons, I worry for your sanity because of how hectic everything is going to be. Don't turn into Charlie Day. Hopefully you are able to keep these videos up at a pace you are comfortable with! Break them apart as you need to keep yourself sane! This content has genuinely been amazing keep up the good work! Wait now I have to wait for the phrase. Also, yes to badass Carol. I remember laughing out loud at her physical acting, most notably her facial expressions. Melissa McBride really started to shine this season and I am so happy they kept her a mainstay. I theorized numerous deaths for her (I thought she would get both Glenn and Andrea's deaths at point) but I am continuously glad I am proven wrong. And since I keep rambling... Gimple, man oh man. I thank Gimple for the highs, but have a hard time forgiving him for the lows. I am glad Angela Kang is in charge now, so I will leave it at that. Season 8 was where all of my friends stopped watching TWD. I continued on into Season 9. Wait ... NO PHRASE?! I will say No Way Out is the phrase. Good enough for me.
I totally agree with your take on season 11, it's currently my 3rd favourite season. My ranking goes as follows 1. Season 5 2. Season 4 3. Season 11 4. Season 10 5. Season 6 6. Season 3 7. Season 9 8. Season 2 9. Season 1 10. Season 7 11. Season 8 There's a big drop in between 9th and 10th place if you were concerned about the placement of season 1 Also, while I of course agree that seasons 7 and 8 were the lowest stretch in the show by far, I disagree with gimple being at fault, if you look at who wrote the writer's for the episodes in seasons 7 and 8, the only ones gimple wrote were the standout episodes that were actually good, take that along with the fact that he wrote almost all of the other standout episodes from after he started writing for the series, I think gimple did pretty much nothing but good for the show
@@demon_hawkeye5269 See for me, I have LOVED what Angela kang has done for TWD, so her recent seasons have recency bias for me at... and season 3 getting me into the show has bias too.. but yeah. Season 5 has little to no fluff, its all great and has some of the highest highs of TWD. 10 3 11 9 5 4 6 7 1 2 8
@@iBLIV I don't believe it's recency bias as season 9 is almost 3 years old, they're just THAT good, the reason why I gave season 9 7th place was because of the middle section, I found it to be quite dull, but the first 5 episodes and the last 4 were great, episode 5 of course being the highlight as possibly the best episode in the series
One thing I think a lot of people had forgotten as the show progressed in later seasons, is that leading/semi-leading characters were always built up before their deaths (e.g. Jim, Amy, Dale and Hershel). While you can argue that Dale's death was due to outside reasons, the few episodes leading up to his death, saw him do a lot more, especially since he became the voice of reason for the group. Hershel's death in season 4 was also built up, until he was beheaded by the Governor. It had always been a thing for characters to have some sign of progression leading up until their deaths, and I think Beth, Tyreese and Noah (the more controversial ones) are no exception to this. There also used to be a joke that would be brought up during Comic-Con panels where the actors would say things like "You're always dreading the day you get handed a script, because you never know whether or not that day will come where you get killed off" because a lot of the actors really didn't know when they'd die, it almost felt like a roulette to a lot of them, especially for characters like T-Dog and Lori, for example. That being said, there had come a time around season 6 through 8 where it really did feel like characters were being dropped off for "shock value" or no reason at all (e.g. Carl, Abraham, Tobin and the Carson brothers). Even some of the episodes from season 9 until now have felt like that with deaths like Henry's, Jesus' and Siddiq's which felt rather pointless in the grand scheme of things. I won't deny that the writing has taken a rather odd turn in the show post season 5, but I still think some of these earlier controversial deaths had been done intentionally and aren't all that different to what had come in the seasons before, but that's just my opinion.
I think you are correct when you say the A means they are trapped. SN: The first A I saw was Season 2 Episode 9 Triggerfingers when Dave and Tony’s group turned the back door knob of the bar and Glenn shot the glass window out, right before Glenn fires you can see an A carved into the doorknob!!!!!!
Thanks for this series, I just found out about your channel and I'm hooked! Binged all the videos especially the TWD ones! This is GOLD level content.... Thanks a lot again!
Now I don’t what you mean by how Enid season 6 got better when I’d argue she never did. She is this very odd character who only exists and I mean ONLY exists to be Carl’s girlfriend. Because the moment Carl’s dead in season 8, she has no reason to exist. In fact I would put it that if Carl never died, there would have been a near 100% chance that she would have survived the pikes.
The van Glenn’s group drove on the supply run had a bird design on it very similar to the van Dale and Andrea drove in the comics! I never see anyone mention that
Man I love your videos I see them two or three times whenever they come out, I really like to listen how you explain things, this and the One Piece videos make my fridays every week.
Man every time I see Morgan I get super pissed because of what the did to him by bringing him to Fear TWD. I wish he was still in the show. I want him and Rick to meet up again. Just for one last time. They’ve survived since S1
I think Noah being set up as a possible long term character and then being suddenly killed off is a sign of the times in a way. They did this with Beth a little bit by expanding on her storyline in the hospital just to kill her when the group saves her. During the time weekly TV shows were very popular. Particularly, I remember the scene where Glenn and Nicholas are trapped at the dumpster and friends in high school debating whether Glenn died or not (I wasn’t watching yet and I guess they hadn’t read the comics). This period of TV it was common for characters to be killed off for shock value. I feel like twd fell into this trend during this time especially once the other communities are introduced and there’s sooooo many random new characters all the time.
Such a great video about a great bloody arc!!! I'm very glad someone has put in a lot of effort to show everyone a deep analysis about the differences and similarities between the comic and the show!! Thank you so much for these videos man!! I'm actually doing a comic dub series of The Walking Dead with a team of voice actors!! We're currently working on Volume 3 😁
just wanna say i love your videos, these and the one piece videos are always a joy to watch, i started one piece around the same time you posted your first one, even though im way ahead now i still watch your vids.
As a final comment to season 5, let’s me just say that the way Beth, Tyreese and Noah were handled pretty much hinted at the shit storm that was to come for the rest of the Gimple era. Gimple took Tyreese, a character who had so much potential in season 5 and made him the most PATHETIC and annoying pacifist I’ve seen. So basically his entire season 5 storyline was f*cked. Then there’s Beth’s in which it ranged to average to even good, only to kill her off for no real reason. In fact I have some very strong suspicions with some evidence I’ve looked up that may have hinted she was never supposed to be killed off this season. Then there’s Noah who I describe is a worse/ rehash version of Beth’s “weak teenager becoming strong” arc. And when we get finally something that could make him stand out (him becoming an architect) he gets killed off. I got a real bone to pick with Gimple and season 6 is gonna be a shitshow.
Imagine if Noah dies the same way, and it results in Tyrese breaking his pacifist mindset to avenge Noah and he tries to kill Nicholas instead of Glenn.
I’m just going to say it I think the deaths in season 5 before getting to the safe zone were absolutely pointless with bob it made sense you want the hunters to be a threat however Beth was the only one missing from the prison group and we get her back and then just like that killed and then Tyreese right after ,but that’s just me and my opinion.
I always saw the A's in Terminus as "route A" (which would imply there are multiple routes and multiple train cars for survivors to be trapped in.) Presumably, there would also be a route B, C, etc. leading to a different train cars/shipping containers.
I'll be honest, I don't have anywhere near the attachment for any of the spin-offs as I have with the original. I've seen them once and that's pretty much it - I just haven't found any value in revisiting them, so unfortunately I'm not the right person for that job. I've debated doing retrospectives on the Telltale games, but as of right now, there are absolutely no plans to cover the TV spin-offs in any in-depth fashion. If anything, I'd just do a single video covering all of them at once.
So first time i've noticed this, Rick is wearing a Commonwealth Of Virginia patch on his jacket, with more recent information from World Beyond, A is a test subject for the CRM, starting to wonder if this is all connected and the group has just been living in one big testing area setup by the CRM, it would also explain Georgie showing up in the middle of all out war completely safe as well. Maybe the Commonwealth is the 3rd ring. I knew Noah and Reg were going to die soon, they had a conversation about how long they would still be alive, both fo them, clear indicator they are about to die on this show, everyone who has a vision for the future dies, except Rick, that plot armor.
God I love these videos so much, you're so talented and I love your opinions on the differences. I legit cannot wait until you get to the *ahem* ''contreversial'' Savior war. Since as being a comic reader myself before the arc aired I pretty much hated all of season 8, however a friend of mine who isn't a comic reader says it is his favourite season. Very interested to see your takes on it eventually.
I really wish they had hidden that it was morgan that was traveling to find alexandria. The reveal after pete dies would have been so much more of a shock if he lowered his hood and it revealed it was morgan.
I actually quite enjoyed the dove path that Carl took in the show where he was advocating for peace and less violence. I do wish they played more into a teenage angst and rebellion against his father angle. Also, you could shake up some of his comic stories. Like when sneaking to go kill Negan, have him be more successful. Actually sneaking in and playing it smarter, but he can't bring himself to go through with it. Continue with him being a mediator and it would have fit perfectly into the Whisperer arc where Carl did kind of go with Lydia in the comics.
It’s to keep the stakes high. Killing off characters we don’t know won’t affect us at all.
@@Xpertfusion We knew, and I liked Noah, killing off Aiden would've been just fine
@@rodneylane952 we also needed the tension between Glenn and Nicholas to be higher, I thought it made for a good little storyline

It’s the best lol I stopped watching in season 4 and five years and years ago but absolutely love this ! So much work and care put into it and you can tell 🙏
I only started about a month or two ago I’m up to “all out war pt 1” I prefer the comics more
The scene where rick is screaming and going crazy on the street has to be one of the best acted scenes in the whole show

@@crimsoncrewjp it was for sure during the Whisper War, that speech was integral in convincing Lydia to switch sides and abandon Alpha.
@@adhirg i’m a new comic reader and i’ve just finished the whisperer arc, that monologue takes place after Andrea’s death which is several issues after the whisperer war ends, not trying to be passive aggressive or anything. just wanted to let you know

@@gfilmer7150 It's better that TV Rick isn't in the commonwealth storyline. Because he won't get killed by that little prick Sebastian.

Oh shut up with your “practical effects “ BS CGI is better in every way! Dont you remember the carnival deer!
If we had followed Alexandria from the beginning and Rick said the take this place line, that’d make him pretty villainous which really drives the whole “everyone is a hero and villain to someone else in the ZA” point across

@@Koroto Can't wait to see it! 👀
The entire show takes you in circles. So glad I finished this shit show after s6
I feel like this is one of the seasons where every episode did lead to progression though. This is the season with the most storylines, they litteraly only had time for one episode of the group surviving on the road before reaching Alexandria, that's how fast things were going and progressing. The lack of progression is more of a Season 7 and 8 problem, which I feel could've been very easily condensed into one season, Season 7 being the first 8 episodes, Season 8 being the last 8
This is actually my favorite season
I didn’t care for the Jessie/Rick/Pete storyline and that takes up a lot of screentime or it feels like a lot atlast.
@workinprogress3329
The Point of Jessie, is to Move Rick away from Grieving Lori & to "Consider" the "Possibility" of having another Relationship.

He’s bullshitting
It always felt like, "He's walking with what's mine and I'm gone take it." to me.
The gore of Noah’s death was not necessary. His entire face is ripped apart. It’s hard to watch. I would have much prefer he stay.

Luckyy I was just a kid so obviously my parents didn't let me watch. I hate how I joined so late after the hype, so I'm glad videos like this exist
Yeah, that was definitely a major problem with Season 5 in particular.
I do love the foreshadowing in the book when Douglas asks Michonne to hand over her sword only for Olivia to dismiss it since “anything can be a weapon. My kitchen knives even.” A couple issues before Pete uses one to kill Regina
Which is much better than how the show handled reg’s death
Since asshole neighbor used michone’s sword to do it
A: I doubt michone even as comfortable as she is in Alexandria would ever make her house or her sword sword easily accessible to crazy douchebags. Especially after having already been informed that there’s one nearby
And B: what is the point of using michone’s sword? What did that add in any way shape or form? I’d completely forgotten about it until I finally watched the show again. What was asshole neighbor even doing in michone’s house?
Mate don't apologize for the length of the videos. If you make a 3 hour long video i will still watch it.
This is probably the best retrospective on this series I've found and I can't wait for the next installment.
Good work brother
I STRONGLY believe that this is one of the arcs of the comic that the show did a lot better than the source material. The Anderson family, introduction to Alexandria (and the adaption of Deanna and Reg) and Rick’s breakdown + build up to the execution of Pete are all elevated even more in the TV version.
Agreed!
The ending to this season is probably my favorite scene
Certain scenes I think they did better in show but overall the arc in comic was better for me.

26:40 Daam dawg. Even the walkers hated Chris.
Another great video. Thank you for taking the time to make these for everyone. Keep up the awesome work, my man 💪
I love these so much. The narration is great! Its great to go down the nostalgia road while also learning about the comics since I've never read them.
Crazy how much has changed since this season.
Love when I open TH-cam and a new retrospective video is at the top of my feed. Makes my day.
This is currently my favourite TH-cam series

There's a big drop in between 9th and 10th place if you were concerned about the placement of season 1
Also, while I of course agree that seasons 7 and 8 were the lowest stretch in the show by far, I disagree with gimple being at fault, if you look at who wrote the writer's for the episodes in seasons 7 and 8, the only ones gimple wrote were the standout episodes that were actually good, take that along with the fact that he wrote almost all of the other standout episodes from after he started writing for the series, I think gimple did pretty much nothing but good for the show

Really enjoying these retrospectives man as well as the comic comparisons. Haven't thought about this show in years but these videos are a trip.
I was just wondering when a new one of these would come out. We have been blessed.
Man these breakdowns make me re-realize how great this show was

Been watching since episode one of this series, keep up the good work bro!
I never see anyone mention that
These videos are amazing. Thank you so much for making them. Cant believe you dont have more subs
Glad you're enjoying them, really appreciate the nice words :)
i can only lunch watching your videos, thank you!!
Here comes my favorite TH-cam series.
I’m very curious how you’ll cover s7&8 since they basically cover like 12 issues
1 issue per video haha
Korotos!!!! You're spoiling us! I love these videos, I'm so excited!
These have been incredibly well done. Thank you for doing these I really enjoy them
You know, I actually thought it’d be really cool if Davidson came back, and we found out he became a savior
Man I love your videos I see them two or three times whenever they come out, I really like to listen how you explain things, this and the One Piece videos make my fridays every week.
Awesome vids, hope you do it up to the whole series, as a big fan of the walking dead I have to say these vids are amazing! Keep it up bro!
Cant wait for you to get to Negan
I've been waiting for this video for about two months now
As a final comment to season 5, let’s me just say that the way Beth, Tyreese and Noah were handled pretty much hinted at the shit storm that was to come for the rest of the Gimple era.
I heard Noah’s actor wanted to leave to do other things so they were forced to kill him off. Idk tho still sucks
Imagine if Noah dies the same way, and it results in Tyrese breaking his pacifist mindset to avenge Noah and he tries to kill Nicholas instead of Glenn.
I’ve been looking forward to this.
I figured the A on his hand was a nod to the scarlet letter with him starting to form adulterous thoughts toward Jessie
Cookie Monster 🤣. Sam was insufferable
I always saw the A's in Terminus as "route A" (which would imply there are multiple routes and multiple train cars for survivors to be trapped in.) Presumably, there would also be a route B, C, etc. leading to a different train cars/shipping containers.
Yessir, keep up the amazing work!
Keep up the great work dude!
sweet i’ve been waiting for the next part these videos are cool
I watched the rest of the series and I’ve been waiting for this one
Noah’s death feels like a total waste, it was so soon and it feels like it also wasted Beth and Tyreese’s deaths because they died for Noah.
sam being the cookie monster is the funniest fucking thing
I loved this show, but I unaware of the names for Ricks phases. Murder jacket is defo my fav
Really really love these videos!
Would love if you could could cover the spinoffs in some form!
If anything, I'd just do a single video covering all of them at once.
i don't see where gleen "questioned" rick's leadership, i just saw him get in the middle of the other dude because he know how dangerous rick is.
I love this series keep it up please I’m finishing the comics soon and can’t wait to see the final season of the show
walking dead and ninja turtles mentioned in one video
thats epic
LOVE this series! Thank you
There are 3 versions of glenn, the show,
The comic, and the telltale.
We know how long they are
Keep makin em bigger 🙏🏽
Loving these videos!
Love the long videos, keep it up
Never clicked a video so fast
I absolutely love your vids man.
I'm pretty sure Noah died because Tyler James Williams wanted to leave to do another show. Still a shame though
I fucking love the little Voldemort in Alexander's silhouette
I actually quite enjoyed the dove path that Carl took in the show where he was advocating for peace and less violence. I do wish they played more into a teenage angst and rebellion against his father angle. Also, you could shake up some of his comic stories. Like when sneaking to go kill Negan, have him be more successful. Actually sneaking in and playing it smarter, but he can't bring himself to go through with it.
Continue with him being a mediator and it would have fit perfectly into the Whisperer arc where Carl did kind of go with Lydia in the comics.
