Yeah but that seems to be the case with all the D's we've met who have died Roger Saul Rouge Ace Luffy almost as he smiled when he thought he was gonna die
Can we talk about how fucking sad it is to have “thank you for loving me” be aces last words. Can we talk about how ace saying how he wasnt sure if he would have survived without luffy or sabo implies some really dark shit. I- i just wanna talk guys. I jUST WANNA FUCKING TALK. (Oda has broken me)
What hurt me the most is not Ace death...but Luffy's cry of pain. Luffy's voice actress was spot on, the amount of broken in Luffy in full display. We never see the happy Luffy this in pain. Oda doesn't kill most of the time his characters, it's a waste of potential stories. But when he does, it shake's the world to another level !!
back when i first read this in the manga, i literally had to stop reading one piece or thinking about one piece for a solid month or two. i was so heartbroken. seeing luffy, my favourite boy who i love sososososo much, be in that much pain just KILLED me. and still, like 10 years later, the thing about this episode that gets me the most is luffys quiet "ace?", its so powerfully tragic. im not okay ahahhaa
"Burn out the day. Burn out the night. I'm not the one to tell you what's wrong and what's right. I've seen suns that were freezing and lives that were through. And I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm burning for you." - BOC You know, ever since Pell back in Alabasta, One Piece has had a reputation for not killing its characters. "No named character ever dies outside of a flashback" was the rule, as far as fans were concerned. Even when the chapter was literally titled "The Death of Portgas D. Ace", there were a lot of people who insisted it was a fake out, that the next chapter would be titled "... The Birth of Gol D. Ace".
Again, just for reminder everything that happened from Sabaody to end of Marineford Saga only happened in the span of 10 days. Just imagine Luffys body and mental exhaustion, from lost his crew, near death from poisoned, and lost his brother.
I think there is no other story that could have pulled this of. The main character doing everything possible, sacrificing years of his live, going all out for 60 episodes and then still failing, actually losing the person he tried to save.
This shit killed me when I first watched it. I literally knew nothing about One Piece, got addicted, never looked up anything while binge watching, then this shit happened
That's literally me!! I'm currently going through the show having just clicked on it out of curiosity, and my word. The amount of pain this show has caused me 😂
man like the 3rd set of reactors in a week to get to this episode, and another pair is gonna be there within a few days don't know how many more time I can watch this moment.
This is one of the reasons why I actually consider Dragon to be a not the best but a great parent because he thought if luffy knew who his dad was he mightve gone through the same thing went through his Childhood. That did he deserve to be born. RIP Portgas D Ace
@@ILikeCHEEZ9 More like an assumption at this point, not headcannon since this hasnt been revealed yet in anyway, we still dont know dragons reasons but I bet we will eventually
I also didn't realise it the first time I watched this. I realised it when a few month later I re-watched the ASL flashback and the question of "Why couldn't we hear Luffy's dream when we know what it is?" came to my mind.
This episode breaks my heart but still, Marine Ford arc is still the best for me. Dressrosa is a close second. It would have been better if Ace survived and return to his hometown someday with the "others" (so not to spoil).
Honestly, after all these years I still don´t understand how so many people were able to get upset over Aces´ death. Hear me out: His crew came all the way to Marineford, they declared war on the entire Marine HQ and their strongest fighters and threw themselves at them, wave after wave, after all those ordeals they manage to rescue Ace, they are on their way to safety. What does Ace do? He decides to spit on his wounded, fallen and still fighting Comrades, just because he can´t handle Akainus mockery of Whitebeard. They shouldn´t have said: "NO, Ace, it mustn´t be!!", there should have been at least some of the Whitebeard Pirates saying: " Ace, you dumb dipshit, we´ve all put our very lives at risk, just for a chance to get you out of YOUR mess, we even told you NOT to go after Blackbeard! Seriously, go to hell, we´re done with you!". Ace didn´t die as a tragic hero, he died as a traitor. And don´t say "Yes, but his pride...", No! If it was only for his life, fine. But not like this. No.
You guys do realize that the navy are the good guys, pirates are the villians, they do alot of murdering and crime, the strawhats are the only crew that goes around helping people and stuff.
Does saltwater have no impact on them? This situation will change if someone pours saltwater on them; they will disperse like they're fleeing for safety.
Being the king of the pirates is not Luffy's dream it's just a stepping stone to his true dream so Ace saying that the only thing he "regrets" is not being there when Luffy fulfills his dream makes sense.
Unpopular opinion: I did not care about his death because I didn't know shit about him. I only felt bad for luffy because he went to hell and back to safe him
I feel like most of us were like that. I like Ace as a character but we seen way too little of him. What broke me was not the fact that he died but seeing how much pain Luffy was in both mentally and physically.
This take is so popular and people love to say it in every vid Ace dies in, but it's so messed up. While Luffy suffers the most because he's still alive, Ace himself is dead and has forfeited his future and promises to others for Luffy's life and his dream he still has to achieve. As human beings, there should still be empathy, even for someone who isn't the main character. A life was willingly sacrificed and it's just brushed off by people like both of you.
Not gonna lie every people who hates Akainu is just because he killed Ace but let's be honest, does anyone would have preferred Ace to get killed by 2 random guy with swords in the middle of the war between Garp and Sengoku? I don't think so😂. Plus it's actually a really good choice from Oda to chose Akainu for killing Ace, because it shows how with simple word's, Akainu literally destroyed everyone's effort in this war in less than 5 minutes because he knew Ace would for fall it. Really great vilain, doesn't deserve so much hate compared to some other in the future.
Ace smiling after he died, just like his dad, Roger did. No regrets.
Absolutely heart breaking every time.
Yeah but that seems to be the case with all the D's we've met who have died
Roger
Saul
Rouge
Ace
Luffy almost as he smiled when he thought he was gonna die
Typical D behavior😂

yea. can you imagine Ace's life without Luffy and Sabo!? I'm crying all over again

A running theme in one piece is people, who through their trauma believe they don't deserve to be loved, being loved by their found families.

Luffy in these three arcs have no plot armor at all
And also Luffy didn't get any unknown power-up like the other anime protagonist
It's so hard to see Luffy break from his free loving spirit and break like that.
