35:50 Head on the nail. Silco relates his experience with Vander to Jinx's trauma at the end of episode 3 but the key difference is Silco was an adult and knew what he was doing. Vander's betrayal strengthened Silco's resolve from that point on and would let nothing stand in his way. Powder was a child who already suffered from depression, anxiety and abandonment issues. She didn't know what she was doing. The trauma she suffered by Vi's abandonment fractured her psyche, one part that feels lost and immense guilt for what she did and the other, rage, angst and the justification for whatever destruction she causes as retribution for what the world has done to her. Jinx only lives for the here and now. She does not make long term plans. The one thing both Jinx and Powder share is the need to prove herself, to herself and Silco. What I find most sad is that when Jinx struggles internally with how she perceives any particular situation, her initial instinctive reaction is actually quite normal and makes sense. It's the voices in her head, of Mylo and Claggor, i.e. doubt, that clouds her judgement and often leads her with the worst take. We saw signs of this early on when Powder overheard only half of Vi and Mylo's conversation after the botched heist in episode 1.
I saw another video mention how Caitlyn used Jayce's name to release Vi, even though her own mother is also a counselor. I think they said it shows how much she trusts Jayce, but I think it also shows her avoidance of utilizing the privilege of her family.
It shows on how different pages her and her mother are. She would've raised hell if Caitlyn forged her signature. They argued all the time. Jayce has her back, her mother has a reputation to uphold
The delivery of the line "From the dead?" at the end always gets me. Such genuine bafflement at the news that so immediately changes his understanding of everything.
29:24: Jinx: "I keep seeing them that day." Silco: "Fear hunts us all, child." Silco doesn't get that Jinx is talking about guilt, not fear. Guilt may not be a concept Silco can understand. That is why he doesn't respect Vander either when he refuses to fight.
Silco does understand guilt because it is what caused the original rift between him and Vander (because part of his action caused Vi and Powder‘s parents death). He might also feel he's learned guilt makes you weak. but since confrontation only lead to being nearly murdered by Vander hand, he’s learned that there’s no winning against him physically. Now, instead he sees it as a battle of brain versus brawn.
Me too! He's got the best interpretations of the actions everyone is taking. If I ever needed a psychiatrist, I would hope they would be as "in tune" as he is.
@@petervitale4431 fr there is another therapist that is reacting to Arcane rn, but but i don't really like his videos that mich, they just feel rushed ngl.
41:10 I think Jinx was able to figure it out a lot faster because she also stole Jayce's research notes. Viktor mentions it after her heist/bombing on Progress Day.
And she is using a gemstone that the guys spent years working on stabilizing. She has the intelligence to understand their notes but she didn't have to do all the pre required research, more like an engineer setting up practically what a fundamental theorist would have outlined
This is just my personally theory, but I think why Jinx can understand weapons so much better is because Silco is there to support her. When powder was a kid, her siblings constantly downplayed her inventions. No one recognized the potential she had or didnt bother trying because she’s just a kid. She did not have a support system to be creative, which is important for all kids.
@ I mean in a creative sense, she had little room to be creative. Yes Vi was there in a loving matter but not in a creative matter is what I’m saying. Look at viktor for example, was building toys until he met Singh and went onto get involved in science at a very young age. I don’t think Vander and Vi were equipped to handle Powder’s intelligence. That’s just my two cents.
@@lilunette9319Vi supported her but Vi also sheltered her (in jinx’s mind) she didn’t wanted her to be exposed to reality, she protected her. It wasn’t wrong but in Jinx’s mind it could have been interpreted as putting her potential in a tower with no exit.
Certainly vander would have fully supported her, but the perception Jinx mistakenly has is that Vi did not support or have any faith in her at all. When we know from the scenes that powder did not see, that Vii always believed in her, and reassured her in some scenes also. When it comes to the creativity, again before the hextech was stolen, nobody in all of pilltover knew at that point what potential it had. So powders creativity with toys is certainly a defining feature of her entire character as an adult, but as a young powder I wouldn't disagree it's creativity but also it's kind of typical for children of that age to play with toys. It's not that Vii didn't support her, Vii was her big sister but also like a mother and very protective of her, so on their final dangerous plot that led to finding the hex tech, Vii did not want her to come. Not because she did not believe in her IMO, even when Vii herself was naturally more athletic and gifted at her age. But Vii's desire to protect powder from what she new was potentially a dangerous and life-threatening mission, when she said "you're not ready" I don't think it's unfair to say that at least on that particular job, for powders own safety Vi did not want her to go, but also because they could not afford any mistakes or slip ups. Considering she was so much younger and the protective role, I don't think asking powder not to come was failing to povide support or believe in her. And as for what later became hex tech and shimmer inventions that powders hobby turned into Jinx;s talent for innovation and inventions. Its true, but then at the time of that episode where she was left behind, none of the characters knew of Hex tech of shimmer and their potential, the only characters that had any idea whatsoever from the episodes and scenes we saw, were Silco and the Alchemist genius guy (forget his name) By the way these are just my opinions only, I am not criticising we can all interpret Arcane and resonate with it in different ways, which is fun to talk about and makes Arcane so unique and more than simply an excellent TV show. There are many different genres of great TV series... And then, there's Arcane.
There's no record of Vi's crimes because she didn't do nothing lol Marcus just threw her in prison since that day he captured her for all those years. It's literally heartbreaking. She was a kid and they hit her a lot there too
I think Marcus still pinned the raid and the explosion in Ep 1 on her to justify her being in Stillwater at all. He just then clean the records out to keep it secret from Silco. It is not stated anywhere but it is my impression. Especially with how S02E7 presents the alternative.
@@CruelDwarf But Marcus isn't the only enforcer on Silco's payroll, and it seems like almost everyone connected to Silco knew that Vi was "Vander's daughter". If ANYONE knew during those 7 years that the pink-haired puncher was still alive, they could (and would) rat Marcus out, getting him and Vi killed and gaining them some respect from Silco. The fact that Silco was so sure Vi was dead shows that he definitely spent a while looking for her. I think it's far more likely that the legal system in Piltover is exactly as bad as it was always depicted, and the warden didn't even think to ask for evidence of her crime (something rather likely imo).
@@Zamtrak25they did do that and marcus trusts his source. But it isn’t in her record. If he was confident in the conviction. If he thought prosecuting vi would help him he would. If he takes vi’s case public it could expose him. So she was made to disappear.
I think the big difference between Jayce and Jinx is that Jayce was working from scratch, inventing something totally new, and Jinx has a bunch of Jayce's notes and research papers, recreating what he's already done
You'll notice right before Caitlyn releases Vi, she was breathing heavily, and possibly bracing herself for a beating. The look Vi gave after the bars opened was not just surprise/confusion, but relief as well.
Jace and Viktor had to figure out how to use the Arcane from scratch. Jinx is using there notes to learn what and how they did it. That's why she figured it out so fast.
Plus Viktor and Jayce tried to figure out hextech, when they had only some magical crystals, while Jinx is working with a hextech gemstone that has been specifically made and refined to work with hextech, so that too might simplify some things
Plus, Jinx *is* brainy, and none too worried about safety. I've always felt the Arcane has been a guiding influence as well (note Viktor's remarks to Jayce about how they might have been going about things wrong.)
I love how you approach every character with empathy and understand what makes them tick. It just shows how good the writers were at writing believable people and how good of a therapist you are. Also your "nerdy" talk around 19:00 was so interesting! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Something you missed my friend, at the end of act 1 (episode 3) after Vi leaves Powder. MARCUS sedates Vi and drags her off to please the Council and lock her up for destroying Jayce's apartment. That's why Vi was in prison.
Marcus certainly drags her off, but there's no evidence about doing it to please the Council. Silco's dialog with Vander in ep 3 suggests his plan was to kill the kids. Plenty of other episodes show he's not above killing children, or at least threatening to, in order to manipulate people. Marcus likely knew what the plan was, and did not want Vi's death on his conscience. He probably knows little and cares little about what prison life would be like for her as an anonymous, unrecorded child prisoner, but he knew he'd feel better about himself if he saved her life. So, he hid her away and told Silco she was dead. He maybe even reported to the Council that the culprits all died in the cannery fire, but they likely forgot all about the kids and the Kiramon property that was damaged when they heard that the Sheriff was brutally murdered. I'm sure the focus of the Council on the undercity from that point on was on Shimmer and the gangs that were running it. The property damage was a big deal during the peace that was brokered by Grayson and Vander, but that peace was shattered and there were much larger problems apparent in the Marcus / Silco era.
not spoilers but there are some extra points about Jinx that were included in a mini game on Lol's client when season 1 dropped. in the section "Jinx' Diaries" you actually get to read entries of her diary made during the period between ep3 and 4. the reason i mention this is because of some entries regarding jobs where she "took care of" some of Silco's targets - "Lined up like duckies in a row. Why do they look so sad? They'll be together after wherever people after go. There has to be an after Vi and I will go there" it seems that Jinx definitely believes in an afterlife and that it is *better* than the world they live in. when she kills (in her mind) she thinks she's doing them a favour.
Powder was always an intellectual. When they broke into Jayce's lab as children, she recognized some of the artistic pieces and had a good eye for what was valuable. In addition to stealing the crystal on progress day, she also stole a notebook with their research. So she was standing on the shoulders of giants, but had the smarts to innovate in her own right.
Lol, even though Jinx had Jayce's notes she was still able to comprehend its connection to the runes, which ones and how to use them and did so with nothing but garbage scraps. Jinx - unlike Jayce - did not have a patron who would finance her scholarship, she is a self-tought very intelligent individual. Imagine what would she do if she was given the same chance as Jayce. She is on their level of brilliance but with nothing at her disposal.
One thing I really like about this channel is that no matter who is on screen you try to give them a sympathetic eye and empathize with why they do what they do. A lot of reaction videos don't do this! Enjoying this so far, keep up the excellent reviews! One note about Jinx comparing herself to Vi on the leaderboard must have been devastating, Jinx didn't know Vi was alive. She is still fighting against a memory of her sister from when her sister was still a child. She gave it all that she got, and still lost. Vi is consistently one of the best fighters on the show and Jinx is an excellent tinkerer as shown by how quickly she picks up hextech (and a great shot), but she compares herself to Vi in Vi's field of expertise.
YIPEE, watching your arcane videos and seeing you actually play attention to the tiny details makes me feel like i'm watching it again for the first time :))
The way you reacted to Twenty One Pilots the Line really caught my attention, because of the sensitivity and sincerity you demonstrated, and I was sure that reacting to the show would be a brilliant idea. Arcane surprised me in an unparalleled way with the coherence and the believable way in which the story is told. You manage to make us see the nuances of the show in a very pleasant way and that is a great surprise for me. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your knowledge! I'm stuck here, waiting for the next reactions of this season and, please, season 2. Hugs from Brazil
Jinx has Jayce's research notes as well as the knowledge that the hextech gem actually works, Viktor and Jayce were starting from nothing and with a much more volatile crystal so while Jinx is brilliant in her own right, her grasp of the hextech can't fairly be compared with what the others acomplished.
When Jinx stole the hexgem, she also stole research notes so unlike Jayce and Victor, she's not working from scratch. But even so, she's brainy enough to read, understand and execute a working prototype from those notes which was demonstrated from her interest in bombs and weapons from a young age. It's interesting when you compare Powder working on her little bombs as a kid where she never really tested them out (didn't really seem to have the resources to safely do so) vs Jinx who has a whole base in the fissures where she can safely throw and explode as many bombs as she wants plus anything she wants/needs for her tinkering, she'll get through Silco.
I find the parallel between the father-daughter duos fascinating. Vander and Vi shared the strong build and punching things theme, while Silco and Jinx both rely on smarts to get by and have smaller statures. Vander was a great father figure for Vi, in some ways really aligned with her personality and was able to talk with her on a level she could understand and respect. Jinx seems to be getting something similar with Silco that she never had with Vander-someone who acknowledges and supports her inventiveness (even if he’s using that for his own gain). Love this show!!
very exciting to watch your reactions, truly! and even when you say you stray into nerdy things, it is all very intriguing knowledge and just the way you're digesting the context of what you're watching, it's very genuine and cool and i can't not enjoy it tbh!! i feel like many are right to point out that jinx has some sort of leverage because she basically reverse engineering the hex technology using jayce's and viktor's notes and all, but it is true to say she is very brainy! she fixes things, fixes machinery, makes her own guns and bombs and weapons and her love for tricky desings is not built without both knowledge and inspiration. i guess this ending scene very much solidifies her "feeling herself" in her strong sides - finally without the past stagnating her because silco freed her from her past self and past mistakes
I’m really happy that you can both acknowledge the evil and morally corrupt deeds of silco and both the care and empathy that he has for jinx. A lot seem to forget that both can be true at the same time. While he is a damaged man, he sees himself in this child and wants to help her.
I love your reactions, they make me see every episode with a new vision and I can understand a lot more every character's reasons to do what they do. Sorry my english is not very good, but I understand and enjoy a lot your videos ❤ A hug from Spain 🫂💕
Jinx had the advantage of using a refined gemstone and Jayce and Viktor's notes, so she didn't start from scratch, she was able to use years of research already done, and then apply her own cleverness to it. She is super gifted but she didn't have to create it from zero.
I really enjoy your videos and the perspective your insights provide! Can’t wait to see how you react to the remaining episodes and watch your formulations as well! 👏🏻
21:20 : If I understand correctly the runes works like coding, each rune has a function/meaning and the combination of runes will lead to an action. So for example for the transportations of the ship you would figure out a combination that leads to teleportation (or fast travel)write it into the hexgates and voila, each time you put a ship in it it will go to his destination faster. But it's all they do, what Viktor is trying to do here is something more versatile with multiple combinations of runes possible and not something fixed but that can adapt like he says. A little bit like an AI.
As others have said, Marcus the Sheriff threw Vi in prison to appease the council. There are theories that he did this because he knew Silco would kill her and he either had or was expecting a daughter so had that empathy. There's also the argument that he was going to unleash Vi on Silco as a returned heir of Vander's legacy, but of course that never panned out. Either way Marcus couldn't kill her and couldn't let her come back to life, so put her in the darkest dungeon. Vi only stayed sane for Vander's last words to protect Powder.
Thanks to Viktor, we know Jayce likes to sign every page of his personal noteboooks, and Act 1 showed that Caitlyn liked hanging out with her big brother figure at his workshop. She's probably the one person in Piltover most familiar with what his signature looks like. Caitlyn is very detail-oriented and forging it would be pretty easy for her. It's little things like this I love picking up on, after multiple times watching the series.
😹 Jace do be liking signing things. But I don't believe she forged it. I think it's implied she just had him sign it as a kindness to her without him considering it's relevance. He probably signed it with both calligraphy script and fancy wax seal.
Re: the fissures. Zaun is a lower altitude, because that is where the mines are. The fissures are where the chemicals come up from within the planet that are mined (think of sulfur mining). The fissures themselves give off horrible chemicals and everyone in Zaun would be dead from the air being so toxic save for a clever air exchange system. A lot of people dont seem to recall that the fissures are a massive source of income and resources for piltover, and its much of the reason they dont want to admit zaun is its own city.
In case you didn't figure it out yet, and since the show won't give you any more hints: The reason Silco thought Vi was dead is that, when Marcus took her away at the end of Episode 3, he never told anyone including the prison staff and Silco. (That's why there was no info on file for Vi or her crimes) Marcus sent Vi there basically in a twisted attempt to protect her, and she was there for the whole 7-year gap between Episodes 3 and 4.
In the last episode, shortly after Jinx's attack on topside, they mentioned that she took the gem and some of their research papers. Still, without having all the intimate knowledge that Jayce and Viktor have, her ability to figure stuff out about how to use the stone is interesting.
I haven't really tried to analyze it much in any depth but wanted to point out that there is a recurring motif of Jinx being harassed by that crow (It shows up a few times). It seems to be a metaphor for her nagging internal dissonance. I think your comment about her lack of regard for life is spot on, but i think in this instance when she shoots at the bird (not sure if she killed it or not) she's also trying to dominate her inner doubt.
Don't forget that Jinx also stole Jayce's notebook so everything is pretty much written for her, that's why she is so quick to figure out how the gemstones works.
Jinx has Jayce's notes. So she's basically working with the "recipe book". Granted it's still impressive how fast she works it out, but that is why she's able to work with the hextech so quickly compared to them, since it's bassed off their work.
Marcus never really did it for money - and he was in too deep almost from the get go. The first time he meets Silco it’s because Silco wants to make a deal with him that involves offering up the location of Vander’s kids. But Marcus doesn’t act on this immediately - it’s not until the Council chastises them for not doing enough and orders them to do whatever it takes to apprehend the guilty party - only then does he make use of Silco’s information to search The Last Drop. From the events of episode 3 it seems that getting this information meant a deal to let Silco know whatever information the enforcers got about Vander and the kids - and Silco used this not only for his own means in regards to Vander but how it all unfolded it also meant that Marcus was suddenly a center piece in a conspiracy involving a murdered sheriff (Grayson). From this point there was no going back for him.
My assumption is that after Markus took Vi before she could save Powder he threw her in prison under a "Jane Doe" name as Cait said there were no records of Vi or her crime and when Silco would've eventually gone looking for Vi as he did know she was around right before he found Powder/Jinx, Markus probably told him he found her dead from her injuries and he took care of her body before anyone could ask questions. Whether or not Silco believed him at the time, her being gone for well over 5 years with zero trace would confirm Markus's story. It's not like Silco would give a crap who's in Stillwater (the prison) unless it was one of his goons which even then I doubt he'd care.
The relationship between Vander and Grayson was to maintain the status quo. But Silco isn't interested in maintenance, he wants to gain. He uses Marcus while Vander had more of a partnership with Grayson, even if it was imperfect, it insulated the undercity against Piltover's influence.
To reiterate, I also love you very that you're taking the time to appreciate and evaluate many characters and angles. Jinx is often a favorite. She is "perfect" in a lot of peoples eyes. But early on I'd attached to Viktor but viewers most take notice of the complexity of his character further into the series. A lot of people attach to others Mel or Jayce and are sidelined a bit as well. This slower pace and mindfulness is a lot more satisfying.
1. The book Jinx is using are the research notes from Jayce and Victor. She stole it along with the gemstone. That's why she is catching up quick. 2. Marcus is the one that grabbed her at the end of episode three, and we find out he just stashed her in prison without any kind of arrest warrant, trial or documentation.
I like to think of the Hextech stuff as Viktor and Jayce writing the textbook and creating the course at university and Jinx skipping all the classes, reading through the textbook, but still managing to pass with top grades lol
When Caytlin goes to prison she is no longer an enforcer, she remembers that her parents got her fired for almost dying and being dangerous, she forges the signature...
I just thought of a parallel between Jinx playing the boxing machine and what Mylo said in episode 1. He said "we were twice the person at half her age" and similarly Vi got a higher score at a much younger age.
Cait going over the red line is very interesting. She overstepped the line in the past (investigating the airship) and this red line is a symbol. She went over it and now everything started.
It's interesting to see that Himerdinger is the only council member at the concert to listen to the music, everyone else is using it as cover for shady deals
A few notes: Loved your explanation of different ways that pathways can form and reform in the brain. ❤️ Also, Your Marcus impression was impeccable. 13:47 "Corruption? 👀😬" 😂 And yes, I will aways find that juxtaposition between Jayce and Mel and Viktor with the Hexcore both oddly disturbing and hilarious. 😅
[10:58] "He (i.e. Marcus) can't be doing it just for the money anymore". I don't think he ever did it for the money. He did it because he hates the people of the Undercity and believes that they're all criminals and that he's doing Piltover and the world a favor by doing what he does. When he first betrayed Grayson to Silco, he didn't intend for her to die, he just thought that Grayson was too soft on them and meant for Silco to do the dirty work for him. [17:37] The term "fissure folk" probably refers to the fact that the Undercity is literally in a fissure (which is why Vi, Powder, Mylo and Claggor had to use an elevator to get there in episode 1). The whole layout of the city is never really explained in the show. You can piece together most of it on your own with little details but here's the basic rundown: The city was built along the river Pilt - hence the name Pilt-over. The north side is where the rich people live (remember Vander scolded Vi saying "The north side is off limits" after the heist in episode 1). Consequently the south side is where the poorer people live. The Undercity is a literal fissure where the poorest people are forced to live in toxic gasses. [24:18] "Vi's all over that board and (...) Jinx came second, wasn't good enough.". Also Vi did that several years ago before she got imprisoned. It probably brings back memories of Mylo claiming "You (i.e. Vi) where twice the person at half her age." when Powder was eavesdropping on her.
Not to detract from Jinx - she's hella smart - but she's working from Jayce and Viktor's notes. That she can understand them is notable, but she's not working her way through the trial and error of invention that they were. That's why she's able to catch up so quickly. Let me reiterate: I think Jinx/Powder is possibly the most intelligent person in Piltover/Zaun. Given a level playing field and equal resources, I guarantee she far outshines the other inventors in town. But in this case, she's basically painting by numbers, so to speak.
The symbol on Cait's bullet is her family crest - the K for Kirraman, mirrored, and with crossed keys. I like the reversal of Marcus' interview with Silco and Vander. Both times in the Last Drop, but this time it's the Undercity Crime boss who's making demands, and has two hulking bruisers with him. From Marcus' actions at Grayson's grave, I think he's trying to follow her example - trying to be the shield between the crime bosses in the Undercity and Piltover Council, so that the worst excesses of both don't fall to hard on the people, and cause unrest. Powder needs to be better than Vi, because in my opinion, she associates weakness, failure, uselessness, with being left behind and abandoned. Being thought weak by others makes her incredibly anxious because it reminds her of Vi leaving her behind when Vander died. Powder was always clever, in fairness to Jayce and Viktor, she's not inventing it, she's recreating it using their lab notes.
Marcus's decision to make a deal with Silco in the first placec is what got Grayson killed. I imagine after he realized his error, he needed a way to keep his name clear. If I had to guess, Silco may have made another deal to cover up Grayson's death and put Marcus up as a hero, hence him earning the title of the new Sheriff. Marcus's recklessness cost him his mentor's life, and having to fill in her shoes is a matter of pride and saving face. This is just speculation on my part though.
8:00 I could be mistaken but I think she used the document that Jayce gave her in ep 4 (when he said he wanted to hire her for his personnal security). She presents it with her hands on it so you can only see the signature. If it's not the same document it would at least explain how she can forge one easily since she hqs a reference.
Silco's talk with Jinx sort of mirrors Vander's talk with Vi in episode1 or 2. Though the context and outcomes are quite different. But still interesting that Silco is now in Vander's shoes without knowing it.
What Marcus did to Vi may have been one of the most heinous acts in all of Arcane. He basically kidnapped a 16-year old girl and threw her in a hellhole of a prison fortress with a MIXED population. Just that is the stuff of nightmares. Add to that regular beatings by the guards and that she has no real chance of EVER getting out. She doesn't exist, she has no sentence and thus no release date. Realistically she is going to die in Stillwater - from a beating or a shanking - without ever finding out if Powder is alive or what happened. Must have played hell on her mental state. Caitlyn quite literally saved her life by breaking Vi out. Jinx/Powder has severe mental trauma but at least she was free with a father figure who dotes on her. Vi spent her late teens and early adulthood in a concrete box.
The scene with Jinx shooting the crow contains deeper meaning than just showcasing Jinx's viciousness. Crows are associated with change and in Arcane showcase the change (and conflict resulting from the change) from Powder to Jinx. The shooting of the crow, as well as her gray irises, is her returning to being Powder to face her trauma. Coming short of her sister's score reinforces to her the idea that she's still the weak, worthless girl from years before. i urge you to pay attention whenever a crow shows up in the show. There's a lot which can be derived from this in relation to Jinx's mentality.
I've said it before, and I've said it again. I think Silco is one of the most interesting villains I've seen in a show. I initially thought he was going to be a bit of this generically evil villain guy, but it didn't take long for me to be glued to every scene he was in. The names "Fissure folk" and "The lanes" are referring to the environment. The Undercity isn't exactly underground, it's situated in massive earthen fissures. Cracks left over from geologic movement. Kinda like canyons, but resulting from earthquakes rather than erosion. In real life they're typically not that large, so they presumably would have to have been made by absolutely cataclysmic ground movement in the show's setting. The undercity is built in and around these giant fissures and the mines built in them. Underground in that they're below the surface, but not underground in that there's anything above them necessarily.
Marcus gets Vi at the end of episode three. I'd assune he imprisoned Vi even though there were no accusations... And told Silco that Vi was dead, that he killed her.
31:53 i really also wanted to point out this line feels SO intense but for a different reason completely "medardas aren't often in the position to give anything back" and it almost screams to the viewer that "don't confuse my actions with me giving something now, either" and then she seduces him. i don't think it's jayce "not being scared" to be romantic with someone, he looks like he wasn't expecting that at all, he doesn't look into why she's doing it, he is being pretty naive, i'd say. mel wraps him around her finger (much like she did prior with merchant deals) because he is even more easier to control this way, and he is almost fully tuned in, she can do whatever she has planned for him now. she's a very interesting and manipulative character and i hope you find something intriguing about her later on too!
24:31 “You were twice the person at half her age.” - Milo. Jinx is now the same age as Vi was in the early episodes. 36:42 That’s a great reading of the situation. Silco really does love Jinx, even if their relationship isn’t healthy.
@ Not according to the Wiki/Lore. Unless they retconned that too which is possible. Original official ages Vi was 16/17, Powder was 10-12 in act 1. About 6 years have gone by between the time jump. Again, Riot loves a retcon so…
Jinx looks so much older than Vi was in act 1 at least 2 years which is big at that age. But yeah Vi is a boxer and was fighting probably everyday on that thing so 2nd on first try ? Not bad actually.
17:32, Vi: "My little sister could do that when she was seven." has always been an interesting line to me. Because to the viewer, it's obviously a lie. We saw Powder in episode 1 freezing up over having to jump across to another building when they were on their way to rob Jayce's apartment. And she was 10-11 years old at that point. And I can't imagine in her years in prison Vi's image of Powder twisted that much, that she thinks Powder was able to parkour across rooftops effortlessly when she was seven. So Vi lied on purpose. But why?
About the boxing arcade game: Perhaps it's like that: If someone says you're not good enough and it hurts you, why does it hurt you? You take that person seriously, in this case, because Vi means something important to Powder *and* proved herself, for example at the arcade. If Jinx could beat Vi at the machine which is a gauge for how seriously Vi has to be taken, then who is Vi to tell her "you're not good enough" How can anybody I am objectively measurable better than tell me "I am not good enough?". They can't! And then they can't hurt me anymore. Following Silco's "We'll show them, we'll show them all", she tries to show her mind-Vi that she hasn't any power over her anymore, because she's better. But she fails, she isn't better, and she can't take Vi not seriously.
@@Connection_through_Reaction Schnee (You try not to be spoiled, so perhaps you haven't yet seen his absolutely best analysis videos of arcane yet) made me aware of that. Not only does it say "Pow" (as one would abbreviate or pet name her, not "Powd") but the display has 4 letters, so "Jinx" would actually have fit better. But yeah, it's Powder who has to be "good enough", not Jinx.
Marcus saved Vi as a child by arresting her and putting her in Stillwater Hold. He didn't tell Silco which is why he is so shocked at the end of the episode. Maybe the only good thing he has done thus far. But it was also hell for Vi in Stillwater so not that great either.
It's unclear to me whether Caitlin forged Jace's signature, or whether she was just able to use their personal connection to convince him to sign it. As a do-gooder and someone who trusts Caitlin, he would probably be eager to release a girl that was wrongfully imprisoned, especially if it would help her friend on the investigation that meant so much to her.

That talk about the pathways was really cool and interesting!
I saw another video mention how Caitlyn used Jayce's name to release Vi, even though her own mother is also a counselor. I think they said it shows how much she trusts Jayce, but I think it also shows her avoidance of utilizing the privilege of her family.
Oh yeah - great catch!
Well, she trusts Jayce to back her up on that. She doesn't trust her mother to endorse her decisions.
It shows on how different pages her and her mother are. She would've raised hell if Caitlyn forged her signature. They argued all the time. Jayce has her back, her mother has a reputation to uphold
1:01 'She is a good shot, isn't she?'. She is an excellent shot.
LOVE THIS 😂😂
ah, you beat me to it!
I said the exact same thing at that moment
The delivery of the line "From the dead?" at the end always gets me. Such genuine bafflement at the news that so immediately changes his understanding of everything.
29:24: Jinx: "I keep seeing them that day."
Silco: "Fear hunts us all, child."
Silco doesn't get that Jinx is talking about guilt, not fear.
I love how I immediately drop everything im doing and watch your videos 😭
Same here!

Yes, she has Jayce's book/diary at 15:00
And she is using a gemstone that the guys spent years working on stabilizing. She has the intelligence to understand their notes but she didn't have to do all the pre required research, more like an engineer setting up practically what a fundamental theorist would have outlined
Right
Jinx has been also putting together clockwork bombs since a kid so she is in a way very practiced.
Boring. Wow! Super boring! )))
Vi supported her
@ I mean in a creative sense, she had little room to be creative.
She also has all Jayce's notes on the research they've done over the years. So she has a good base to learn everything from.
Its true, but then at the time of that episode where she was left behind, none of the characters knew of Hex tech of shimmer and their potential, the only characters that had any idea whatsoever from the episodes and scenes we saw, were Silco and the Alchemist genius guy (forget his name)
By the way these are just my opinions only, I am not criticising we can all interpret Arcane and resonate with it in different ways, which is fun to talk about and makes Arcane so unique and more than simply an excellent TV show.
I mean I wouldn’t say she did nothing. She (and the rest of her group) did burglarize an apartment and blow up a building.
@@Zamtrak25they did do that and marcus trusts his source. But it isn’t in her record. If he was confident in the conviction. If he thought prosecuting vi would help him he would.
If he takes vi’s case public it could expose him. So she was made to disappear.
@@Zamtrak25 yeah but he mostly threw her in there to hide the fact that she's alive from silco to protect himself. It wasn't not in her records
She also roles her shoulder. Like she is stretching before a fight.
Jace and Viktor had to figure out how to use the Arcane from scratch. Jinx is using there notes to learn what and how they did it. That's why she figured it out so fast.
Also, Jinx makes it work without the fancy scientific equipment. She makes her crystal "whirlygig" from junk in the undercity.
@@fiskus42 Plus, Victor depicted his dizzy spell while at the hexgate as a "vision".
Why did it not show that in her criminal records?
He may or may not have used her to please the council, but either way he got rid of the paperwork to prevent Silco from killing her.
@@electric.sheep.19 So he protected her but mostly made sure nothing would happen to him.
@okk2005 There was no record of her at all, not even a name. Marcus hid her completely from Silco (and everyone).
not spoilers but there are some extra points about Jinx that were included in a mini game on Lol's client when season 1 dropped.
in the section "Jinx' Diaries" you actually get to read entries of her diary made during the period between ep3 and 4. the reason i mention this is because of some entries regarding jobs where she "took care of" some of Silco's targets -
"Lined up like duckies in a row.
Why do they look so sad?
They'll be together after
wherever people after go.
There has to be an after
Vi and I will go there"
it seems that Jinx definitely believes in an afterlife and that it is *better* than the world they live in. when she kills (in her mind) she thinks she's doing them a favour.
40:27 "So I wonder who got her locked up then?"
In the end of Episode 3 we saw Marcus took Vi!
Jayce, Viktor and Jinx working together would be insane, downright unfair for the rest of the world lol.
Exactly my thoughts. Almost all the characters in this show are a victim of different circumstances
Let’s go!! Another episode been waiting for the post lol been really enjoying watching the show again through someone else’s eyes
I love the insights you put into understanding these characters...especially Jinx and Silco. It's only going to go much deeper. Keep up the good work.
Love this show!!
dude i love your reactions so much! the empathy and understanding you have for the characters is great
Wow, the way you explained neuroplasticity was excellent, what a great metaphor for it!
very exciting to watch your reactions, truly! and even when you say you stray into nerdy things, it is all very intriguing knowledge and just the way you're digesting the context of what you're watching, it's very genuine and cool and i can't not enjoy it tbh!!
i feel like many are right to point out that jinx has some sort of leverage because she basically reverse engineering the hex technology using jayce's and viktor's notes and all, but it is true to say she is very brainy! she fixes things, fixes machinery, makes her own guns and bombs and weapons and her love for tricky desings is not built without both knowledge and inspiration. i guess this ending scene very much solidifies her "feeling herself" in her strong sides - finally without the past stagnating her because silco freed her from her past self and past mistakes
Sorry my english is not very good, but I understand and enjoy a lot your videos ❤
A hug from Spain 🫂💕
Thanks for the kind words. Your English is great 😊
Jinx had the advantage of using a refined gemstone and Jayce and Viktor's notes, so she didn't start from scratch, she was able to use years of research already done, and then apply her own cleverness to it. She is super gifted but she didn't have to create it from zero.
This is where the fun begins
I really enjoy your videos and the perspective your insights provide! Can’t wait to see how you react to the remaining episodes and watch your formulations as well! 👏🏻
Starting from Episode 6 until the end of Season 2 is what I consider to be the climax of the story.
LETS GOOO I am always so beyond hyped for these reactions
Fun little fact is that Vi calls Caitlyn cupcake because in the game Caitlyn has an ability where the bait in a trap is a cupcake
"In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons"
7:38 HILARIOUS that caitlyn forged the forgers signature
Don't forget that Jinx also stole Jayce's notebook so everything is pretty much written for her, that's why she is so quick to figure out how the gemstones works.
help im literally studying for a final rn but im dropping everything to watch this 💀💀 love your reactions❤
Jinx uses their notes to figure how they achieve to use the gemstone.
I love your videos, your interpretation and immersion are really good :>
Probably my favorite (and most accurate) analysis of this episode. And I've probably watched 50+.
Yes we are back ! Finally vi's back and the relationship between Silco and Jinx is so interesting. Thanks u so much!
She went over it and now everything started.
ahhhhh I’m so excited thank you thank you 😭😭
yesss :)
this made my day better
:)
My goodness, you are in for a ride.
This season and the next, you're not ready for it.
It's interesting to see that Himerdinger is the only council member at the concert to listen to the music, everyone else is using it as cover for shady deals
A few notes: Loved your explanation of different ways that pathways can form and reform in the brain. ❤️
Also, Your Marcus impression was impeccable. 13:47 "Corruption? 👀😬" 😂
And yes, I will aways find that juxtaposition between Jayce and Mel and Viktor with the Hexcore both oddly disturbing and hilarious.
You can piece together most of it on your own with little details but here's the basic rundown:
The city was built along the river Pilt - hence the name Pilt-over.
I really like watching your reaction ❤ waiting for ep 6!
Middle of work rn and I dropped my shi- to watch this rn.
Silco's talk with Jinx sort of mirrors Vander's talk with Vi in episode1 or 2. Though the context and outcomes are quite different. But still interesting that Silco is now in Vander's shoes without knowing it.
Coming back to watch this a second time is crazy
Jinx is definitely smart, but to be fair to Jayce and Viktor, she had their notes to refer to, wheras they were working it out from scratch.
I believe the undercity slid into a fissure in the past.
Cant wait for episodes 7

*Time to lock in*
This, does put a smile on my face
Never stop!
YES YES YES YES MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!!!!
24:31 “You were twice the person at half her age.” - Milo. Jinx is now the same age as Vi was in the early episodes. 36:42 That’s a great reading of the situation. Silco really does love Jinx, even if their relationship isn’t healthy.
vi was only 13 or 14 in act 1, whereas jinx is about 17 or 18 post time skip
But why?
About the boxing arcade game:
Perhaps it's like that: If someone says you're not good enough and it hurts you, why does it hurt you? You take that person seriously, in this case, because Vi means something important to Powder *and* proved herself, for example at the arcade.
If Jinx could beat Vi at the machine which is a gauge for how seriously Vi has to be taken, then who is Vi to tell her "you're not good enough"
How can anybody I am objectively measurable better than tell me "I am not good enough?". They can't! And then they can't hurt me anymore. Following Silco's "We'll show them, we'll show them all", she tries to show her mind-Vi that she hasn't any power over her anymore, because she's better.
But she fails, she isn't better, and she can't take Vi not seriously.
I like that on the score board she still had her name in as POWder.
BOIII 😂✋ THIS SO FRICKIN TUFF 🔥🔥🤣😅 "HOLD UP, WAIT A MINIUTE SOMETHING AINT RIGHT"🤣😂 THOSE WHO KNOW IN BALKANS 💀☠
Jinx is SO clever, we see that demonstrated time and time again. But yes, Markus put Vi away i believe.
I know that quote it's featured in a game called Rome Total War
First-ish! So excited for your reaction!!! Just in time!
The symbol of the Kiramman
10:35 😂😂😂😂
Vi didnt just get punched in the gut by sevika, she got stabbed
