- In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 1981 Cadillac Seville with the 6.0L Fuel Injected V8. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
Can you imagine the intoxicating new car smell that greeted you when you opened the driver's door in 1981?
Yeah, now it probably smells like wet panties
Yes
Have always loved the 'bustle' trunk styling on this model. That car was in fantastic condition!
I love the styling of the older Cadillacs. The interior of this car reminds me of the interior of my the 1988 Cadillac Brogham my grandparents had. This is one cool Cadillac.
Absolutely flawless, beautiful classic.
I love that ding dong chime 1:12 sounds pleasant
It reminds me of Wheel of Fortune
Wow, what a gem. That Caddy looks mint, almost like it was just built. I don't think I've ever seen one in such good condition, paint still shines, interior is spotless. Really well cared for. Great video as usual!
That car brings back a lot of memories. I was 16 and my boss at the grocery store bought a brand new one. The car was controversial due to its bold trunk design, a lot of people could not understand why Cadillac so radically changed the once clean and popular lines of the previous Seville. Looking back, it appears GM made a blunder though, sales for the model dropped dramatically. But, I too love this car, would really enjoy owning this one, I would be polishing it a lot and just cruising down the road on Sundays. Thanks for a great video Kyle, I love your channel and how it has evolved over the years, keep doing what has made you successful.
+smacdiesel I too always wanted one of these Seville's ever since I was a little boy. Cadillac came out with this Seville to bring back the appearance of the Classic Rolls Royce body style which looks very much like them. Some of the older 1930s Cadillac La Salle had a similar look as well. it was nothing new just that they brought back a classic body style. I own a 1984 Seville in cotillion white and blue button tufted leather interior and I love it very much.
My uncle had one. My dad and my 3 other uncles had the coupe DeVille and the sedan DeVille. All 1982. We are Italian. It was like a movie when we had family gathering.
Its the hunchback of Detroit
Theres nothing hunching out though, because theres no hunch at all. A hunchback protrudes. Should be called the frog back design
I love that car we purchased an 85 Seville that didn't run and was old and really beat up and worn but I wanted to keep it and restore it. Since it didn't run I just use to sit in it and relax. Sitting in the car was very comfortable. I kinda made that my alone time space because it made me happy. My father told me that he was going to get rid of the car and told me to pull as much good parts as I can. I pulled off the information center, the dash cluster and all of its buttons and knobs, the dashboard faceplates and vents, the stock radio, the opera lights in the back seat, the main dome light, the steering wheel horn pad and some of its decal emblems that fell off. Sadly my father got rid of the car. The tow truck came and took it away to somewhere that I will never know. I will deeply miss my seville.
i saw one of these on my way to school and it made my day
Love the starters that were unique to Cadillac from 1977-1985. They had such a smooth turnover sound. @ 1:23
YES 🙌. The sound is uniquely Cadillac.
Love that turnover sound! I like the sound my Lexus makes.
thats a real cadillac, love the 1980-85 seville
Thank you for such a thorough tour. My dad had one of these in 1981. It was a beautiful two tone silvery green. So ahead of its time with all the features. I wish I could have that car now (apart from the fuel consumption) just great :)
More stuff to break
I absolutely love these , the interior s of these older Cadillac's are mind blowing 😍 , it's really unfortunate of what Cadillac is today. Caddy is not what it used to be. 😟
wow Cadillac was before its time the inside is beautiful
nice to see that there are still cars like this on the road.
My Dad bought this car when it came out. It was the first car I played "Look I'm driving" in. Thanks for showing all the internal features. It's still seems like a giant toy. I'm was always amazed by the tiny handle on the inside of the door and the super posh power seating. This car was more entertaining than my Atari 2600. This was also the car where I learned to appreciate music greats like Roberta Flack and George Jones.^^
Young man, I had this make and model new. The trunk can open from glove box. I traded in 1986 for the down size of new GM body style at the time. Both was good cars.
Love these cars!! I'm very privileged to own a 1981 Sedan DeVille, 1984 Seville and 1985 Eldorado Biarritz for my 80s Cadillac's and they are all a real treat to own and drive. Always loved Cadillac's and the Seville 80-85 was always one of my favorites. Glad to see a beautiful example here!
AMCNorthstar 93 Yeah, NOTHING today comes close to the ride comfort of these old caddys.
No your right, very few as it is. But the one car that is a great ride for a modern day car is the Cadillac Deville/DTS cars from 2000-2011. I have a 05 Deville and my parents have a 07 DTS and a 94 Seville as our daily drivers. Reading my posting here, I have since sold off both my 81 Deville and 85 Eldorado Biarritz but still have the 84 Seville. Currently not driving the 84 Seville because of engine problems and needing an engine swap badly.
I've never seen one in such amazing condition
WOW!!!
i saw this yesterday...i quickly search on youtube and finally found it!!!
rare car!!
THX!
These are so awesome, 70's to 80's Cadillacs is beautiful... will buy one when I can afford one in great shape
gorgeous piece. I got an 83 with 80k miles for 500 about 8 years ago. Love it.
True American classic, love it!
my father had a 84 Cadillac Seville what a nice car I was so young all I knew was Daddy had a big car .still nice looking
My mom had the identical car when new, same colors inside and out, same hubcaps and engine everything. That engine with 6/8/4 cylinder cutoff had a bad rep but hers was trouble free for the 4-5 years she had it. It was also a nice big strong engine as compared to most 81 alternatives.
My dad bought one new in '80, I would love to own this ride, really nice
the 368 v-8 6-4 engine, disconnect solenoids on valve covers and they run good. last good motor till 88 when 4.5 came out ...82 t0 87 were the dreaded 4.1 years then it got much better with 4.9 in 91
I know this was 7 years ago. But this Caddy was in such good shape. I hope it went to a good home!
i would much rather snatch one of these than any of the new caddys that are out there, this is true class
daved1974 not
+Wicked Houston It is class an elegance more than any new car today whether you like it or not.
AMCNorthstar 93 you dont know shit
+Wicked Houston Oh please, get off this channel since you don't know SHIT!!
Rene Schulz Just so you know, this Seville is not plastic except for the bumper fillers. Also its styling of the trunk and roof line is from the late 30's Cadillac LaSalle and also from the Rolls Royce of the same years. The two tone colors was also meant to mimick the Rolls Royce look as well. I realize it is not for everyone which is fine, but it is distinctly Cadillac and is of very good quality when cared for properly.
I had an 85 Eldorado and I absolutely loved that elevator bell chime. Never heard the same chime in any other car.
You gotta love the elegance of these old cadillacs
One of my favorites from entire decade. Love 2 tone paint too. Underappreciated in 2022
I remember when this car came out like yesterday. Being young I liked it, a lot of dark blues in that model too. But the older men did not like it as a rule. To them it was not a real Caddy, same as the previous Seville model. We were looking at it in a restaurant parking lot. About ten of us, some liked it, some did not. Great days!
This car is by far one of the most immaculate i've ever seen for a 1981, i'm well impressed, i bet she'll be worth a few bob seen as it's a rare classic !
In its day, that was American luxury at its finest! ❤
i love how he does reviews on old and new cars amazing
my dad used to have a 1980 cadillac eldorado biarritz with a similar interior like that. The interior was bright red and one of the most comfortable interiors ive ever been in. it had a digital speedometer and everything. miss that car.
Nice car.... some GREAT songs on during the radio demo !
my aunt and uncle had the exact same one right down to the same colors (external and internal) forgot what a great car it was, thanks for the post!
What a beautiful old Cadillac that is! Great video as always Kyle!
I like where it’s the old school GM buzzer then it’s a doorbell LOL.
That chime was so epic, it sounds like a beautiful doorbell.
It reminds me of Wheel of Fortune.
I remember these when I was a kid. I thought it looked like a hyena.
I’d love this well-kept beauty!
What a beauty! Thanks for the video, Kyle!
What a beauty !! Love it
That Really Made My Day....Thts The Exact One I'D Been Looking For....How Much...Mack Mobile For Sure!!!
you could have opened up the trunk from the inside glove box.
Must be too young to know about the trunk release...
It’s the big yellow button 😂
He could done just about everything better...
@@BillWoodillustrator well, this is back when he just started TH-cam. Most of his knowledge about the features of cars wasn't as good as it is today, and yeah of course he could have done a few things better if he redone it today
I remember these cars from back then. Controversial or not, the rear end styling was distinctive. By this time, import cars had taken a big chunk of domestic car sales in America, which I'm sure had an impact on Seville sales. The interior looks quite nice, but perhaps this car's biggest flaw is the engine. For 1981, Cadillac offered the fuel injection setup seen here: the V8-6-4 fuel injection. You can clearly see the badge on the side that says that. This was revolutionary for its day, as it deactivated cylinders that weren't needed depending on demand and load, but apparently it didn't work very well. The early eighties computers of the time were inadequate for this task. Performance suffered, customers were unhappy and many of these cars were frequently taken back to the dealer with drivability problems. Even with all of these headaches, the system only returned an average of 1 MPG better than a standard setup. This system was scrapped after 1981, and GM wouldn't try this again until the 2000s (with much better results).
True. It’s quite unfortunate too, because the 6 liter V-8 (368) was an extremely reliable, strong performing powertrain. The owner could have the lead to the solenoid controller unplugged and the car would operate in the 8 cylinder mode only, but there would always be an annoying “check engine” light illuminated on the dash board, and in many areas, the car would not pass an emissions inspection with the light illuminated.
The Cadillac ding my aunt had an 86 Deville loaded factory CD player and car phone gold Cadillac emblems no leather but man it was nice. She gave it to my grandmother in 1998 when she stopped driving. We sold it in 2012 when my grandmother passed had 78,000 miles.
Gotta love that actual bell seat belt reminder in old Caddys. They were the first to start using chime tones rather than buzzers.
Love these cars and this one is in incredible condition.....
i absolutely love this car....me and the seville is the same age...
Coolest Part at 6:47!! Love it
There was a 79 seville in goodfellas wich makes this part even cooler
I was always hoping that someone in my family would go back in time and get a car like this.
Man, that's a bangin sound system in that thing!
Now that is one good looking Cadillac
That interior is priceless...
sounds very similar to the current gm bong after the buzzer
Tristan David I bet it's a beautiful car
They started that back in 1979
bring back the vibraphone ignition chime. my 79 Lincoln had one. loved the sound of it.
FAB-you-luss ! What a great car, impressive in every way.
Absolutely gorgeous. Classy, Classy, Classy!
freshly detailed, very rare very nice, keep em coming, very interesting, good luck man with the new car thing.
My grandma used to have an 85 seville just like that one. It was a very comfortable car.
I just bought a 1982 Cadillac eldorado had been sitting in a junk yard since 2012 and I got it running great replaced engine control computer
A beautiful car, well presented in the video. Well done.
ok...
1- The Trunk Release is in the glove compartment.
2- This Seville features a V8-6-4 engine that shuts fuel off to cylinders as load decreases to save fuel.
3- It is equipped with a factory installed CB radio.
So much more.... this was a very special car too bad you didn't know more about it at the time of your walk-around.
Can u talk
This here is what I call a Cadillac. This time period and before. What GM makes in todays time are not Cadillac's. They're just dressed up chevy's with a Cadillac emblem on it.
lol
faznout youre poor
I agree I'm 25 I love old school cars pretty soon they will be all gone
The newest caddys are making a huggggeee comeback
Liberal elite agenda? If you want to attack a group of people..don't attack the group that cares about the poor, helps to feed them, and is trying to keep the middle class from falling into poverty. The Conservative radical agenda is KILLING America and only making it good for the rich and powerful to live here. If you would get your head out of Fox News' ass you would know that instead of believing their BS.
man nice job findin that cadillac!! keep up the good work
Wow! Great condition.
Now that`s one stylish Caddy!
That is once nice Seville. I remember those Sevilles. It is interesting how much they changed after this one. That car has that V8- V6-V4 engine that soiled Cadillacs reputation too. It is funny how they finally got displacement on demand right in later years. They do not make interiors like that any longer either. Thanks for sharing.
I would love to have one of these :)
We had one of these as a kid... My favorite piece of the car was the light indicators that you could see from the drivers seat. They are mounted at the top and far front of each fender. I believe it blinked when the blinker or hazards were on, and it had a blue light for the high beams. I was hoping to see it in the video.
This young guy probably didn't know they existed on this car.
beautiful car
The engine size is 6.0 Liters (368 cubic inches). It is the V8-6-4 engine, you can tell by the blue engine covers on each side. If the V8-6-4 modular displacement malfunctions, you can disconnect it and just drive the car in V8 mode all the time. The 4.1L V8 did not come out until 1982 in Cadillacs. Both engines had their flaws, but sometimes, especially if you maintain them well, they could prove their worth and run well and reliably.
nothing better than an old school caddy.
my mother brought one home in the summer of 81 and we rode that car until she traided in for her 1994 caddilac Fleetwood that she still has
My father had a 1983 D'Elegance. It had the 4100 V8. He went through three of them. They kept eating camshafts. It was one nice luxury car in search of a great engine.
Beautiful cars with the exception of that rear end!
This is when Cadillac used their creativity and made imaginative cars, yes the V8-6-4 might not have worked all that well given the limited computer capabilities of the day, but it was very advanced stuff back then and atleast they thought about the environment and were one of the first to try something different, you see that kinda stuff in todays V8s, then again they're much better running and the electronics and programming are much more sophisticated so it obviously works a lot better today, still love the shape of this car though, and I'm not even from the US. Caddy's came with soo much standard kit, then again they were the most expensive but they were just that much better equipped than BMW, Jaguar, Rolls and Mercedes-Benz, as for the subject of whether they were built as well as the germans we could argue about certainly but I still have plenty of admiration for what America could do at that time, they kept up with the best of them for the most part, what they lacked in sophisticated underpinnings they made up for in comfort and luxury conveniences.
Classic. defiantly classic.
I own a 1989 Cadillac Fleetwood brougham. :D
my car is in great shape for being 24 years old. it has a light metallic blue paintjob
and there is no rust or rot on it what so ever ^^
ill be posting a new vid of it soon. btw, I love how good shape this Seville is. still an iconic Cadillac of its generation ^^
Damn that is luxury.
What a sweet Caddy. That radio sounds kick ass for stock 1981.
beautiful car!
love those old caddys
Your exactly right. Mechanics were perplexed by it,GM offered little technical help.My father-in-law worked for a GM dealership and that is what they ended up doing to most of them because there was no way to get it to function correctly.
What a beauty :)
@Maserati7200 Throttle Body Injection, its injected via the throttle body so it looks like a carb and essentially functions like one also, wasnt too good. Then came Sequential Electronic Injection that injects the gas into the runners of the intake manifold when a certain piston fires, hence the sequential. There is also direct fuel injection, where the fuel is pumped right into the combustion chamber.
i liked how it went from the buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz to the doorbell lol
This is my car, it's my first car and I love it.
very nice ride a classic of the 80's
Looks better than any modern Caddy hands down.
My neighbor had one of those too. I remember when he revved it up
My parents had an 83 and later an 85 Eldorado, the latter having the HT4100 with 120 angry horsepower lol.
+rompn4x Yeah Angry!! LOL I took a 0-60 video of my 85 Eldorado Biarritz and took almost 20 seconds to reach 60......that was typical 80s emmisions crap going on and reliability problems.
AMCNorthstar 93 You think that's slow? Well my dad bought a 1978 Olds Delta 88 DIESEL brand new, and man that thing was a dog, besides being a LEGENDARY pile of excrement.
Yup, I can imagine how slow that car was. That was the era of Slow moving cars and most with reliability and build quality problems. Boy how much cars have gotten better in terms of performance, reliability, efficiency and technology! But I still do love a few older classics but mostly from the 50's and 60's era.
@@sluggo1515 my Mom drove a 5.7 Litre diesel for 20 years. A few of them were good
And HT stood for "high tech" lol
I enjoyed this video.
@92ASC Just these few years! The new 520d (diesel) has got 163-184 hp (the one sold in Norway and probably some other countries has got less hp because of our car taxes) and official mixed numbers show 4.9l/100km, 50 us mpg or 60 uk mpg! For a big saloon that's quite amazing.
It's also a small 2 litre diesel and it puts out more than this huge engine :P
It is a chain driven transaxle. It was introduced on the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado which featured a longitude mounted 425 cid V8. The Cadillac Eldorado from 67-85,Seville from 80-85,Olds Toronado from 66-85 and Buick Riviera from 79-85 were all set up this way and all were front wheel drive. The engines used back then were too big to mount sideways. That all changed in 1985 when Cadillac became the first in the world to tranverse mount the HT4100 V8.
