    Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

      @baconwhiskey821 this is important to me! I plan on pulling something about this size behind my car and I'm going to be pushing my upper tow capacity with it having so much air drag sticking up above me

      @@NoZenith From the videos I've seen, having a v-nose vs a flat-nose makes a big difference in towing effort. Have you considered an A-frame camper? Hard-sided, pretty easy to set up, but is low-profile like a pop-up camper while towing.

    • @NoZenith
      @NoZenith 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tc2882 Yes, actually! I followed a whole bunch of slim potato heads videos from a few years ago While he was traveling around in inclement weather in an A-frame. I have considered it. But I think I would be happier in a little box. i'd also have one trailer for everything. I bought an old tri-plex I'm fixing up to offset living expenses... It could be my utility trailer and then my camper. Also a bit more stealthy to just pull into a parking lot and take a nap 😆

    I'm so excited I'm going to do the cargo trailer too. I've been collecting things to use in it for years. I'm too old to do the tent anymore I need a hard side for protection against the wind and cold and rain. I'm going to carry a lot of water. That has always made my boondocking limited. I wouldn't put the stove up higher if you can avoid it... I did something similar to a fireplace and had permanently cold feet and a sweaty head... when it got cold, it didn't even circulate, the heat was just being sucked out the corners of the room. Just thought I'd say!

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's very true, but we always use a small 12volt fan to push the hot air down to the floor. It makes a huge difference.

    • @al3k
      @al3k ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gonagain Yes I saw, that's a pretty cool gadget.. seen it around, must get one too! However.. I still think your main sources of heat should always be low if possible.. I had the unfortunate experience of -25c (-13f) for the first time in my life in europe here the winter before last in an unprepared poorly insulated 100yr old cottage. I had a roaring fireplace going, and a blow heater to the side of it which I used for some circulation, but the heat was just being sucked out on all sides before it touched anywhere further than about 30cm... With the changing climates.. best to set up just in case.. but, that's just my humble opinion of course. I'm sure you guys will cope with any eventuality 10 times better than I'm doing right now anyway. :D

    There's a few things I couldn't live without in my Ram Promaster: MaxAir Deluxe, Dometic Duel refrigerator and my Wave Propane Heater. The Dometic has been flawless, it sips my battery and its whisper quiet. Although I'm a solo traveler I have my very big Tomcat Toby. He never warns me before he steps into his box to do his thing. And that is almost unbearable for a minute but the fan makes super quick work of that as well as cooking odors. It's really a must have I say. And finally my portable propane heater has never failed me. It has been incredibly efficient; I would say also it sips propane. I really enjoyed this video. I'm looking at how to rearrange also. And you both deserve to be as comfortable as you wish. Can't wait to see your redesign🤙

The Port-a-Potty I had got old, real fast...! If you do put in some cabinets... try to use an under counter water tank or 5 gallon jugs w/your pump, keep the jerry cans for bulk water storage...? Hammock's inside to sleep on would be practical, hang up, then take down..? =) I really liked the Video on the ALP Generator, 1 thing I didn't care for was the $529.00 price tag w/a 1 year warranty...? =)

    I love in a mobile home. We use Magic Jack for our phone so money saved there except Comcast upped our Internet to almost $100 monthly. What does Starlink do exactly. Does it include phone service or just Internet? Is it designed for home use of just camping? I know Elon Musk designed it originally for use in Ukraine.

      Starlink is an internet service that can be used anywhere. We are able to make and receive phone calls via WIFI when we're out of cell range. This is all through Elon's satellites that he put up.

    My wife and I started with a tent then we bought a truck camper that had a porta potty in a closet and a small propane heater, (boy we had it made) we finally upgraded to a used 30 foot fifth wheel, central heat, 100 gallons of fresh water, a bathtub/shower, Queen size bed, closets and drawers wow! We purchased a brand new 30 footer with a slide out that we used and enjoyed for 10 years. Then we both got old! The fifth wheel took a lot of work to set up and pull. We purchased a small couple’s trailer, sometimes it seems small but so much easier to haul and set up.
    I truly admire your setup and how much you enjoy yourselves! Your staying in our home state, we love this place very much! If you are looking for a truly amazing place to visit check out Rucker Canyon and Camp Rucker (its an old Calvary fort that was turned into a cattle ranch and then donated to the Forest Service, its in the south eastern part of Arizona.

    You mentioned adding more solar, with limited roof space. We saw a cargo trailer conversion while in Quartzsite that had solar mounted on one side, the owner said that with the low winter sun the worked very well. You could also build them to hinge upward for max summer output. Don't know if this would work for you, but might be worth considering.

    REMODEL:
    Hey Rick & Linda, just a couple of suggestions.
    1. Solar- Itehil now makes a 400w folding portable panel. You know they are “as advertised or better.”
    2. Before you Mount a tank outside and under where it can get punctured or freeze, think about black polypropylene pipe on top of the trailer under the solar panels. It would benefit from the warmth of the sun in the day and the heat from the ceiling of the trailer at night. Then you could plumb a spigot through the side of the trailer by the top. Just my .02 cents worth.

    Form follows function. Who'da thunk? I appreciate your experiences. Especially on heating and power. Since I copied your pipe berth idea, the bunks-to-sofa conversion was a Doh!-ment. My wife and I discussed seating a day ago. Once again, Rick to the Rescue.
    I may mount a water tank beneath my trailer, too; using plastic pipe. A 6" x 72" pipe holds ~9 gallons. Mounted athwartship doesn't take much space. I'm still pondering the effects of slosh though. I may do a trial run with two half-filled pipes laying on the floor between the wheels to see if the trailer wiggles like a loaded diaper. For now, I use two 5-gallon jerry cans beneath the sink.

    That's the beauty of customizing our own rig. Mine is a Lance camper with a dry bath. I sacrificed a centrally located large closet to have a custom-built woodstove installed. Got rid of the microwave (never used) and got rid of the generator (didn'tlike the noise). I don't use the shower, so the cat litter box resides there. Also removed the ladder to the roof because one night three guys were climbing up it. I can access the roof from the escape hatch inside. I also made sure I could climb through the glass sliders to get inside my truck to drive away without having to exit the camper. Being a solo senior woman, safety options are important. Saving up for solar. This rig is larger than I really need. Originally, it was for my late husband and I to travel in. However, it's paid for and the extra room is nice when one travels with a dog and two cats. Love the changes you and Linda have done. Living in a rig is the best way to decide how to customize. Your rig is so cute and comfy. ❤😊

    Why aren’t you using a wall mount ventless propane heater

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because they put a LOT of moisture into the air which makes the water form on the windows and even inside of the trailer's skin, which can cause rot and mold. Consider a vented stove propane stove or a ducted heater like one of the chinese diesel heaters.
