I wish they the Entertainment and Sports Arena could be nicknamed "the Asylum" because it's across the parking and the fence from the current St. Elizabeth's Hospital, they are currently redeveloping the old East Campus.
Some look like arenas, some look like roller skating rinks, feed storage sheds, meat production plants, buildings found at a turnpike rest stop, lumber storage sheds…. Hey, the G-League has done a good job for what it is. Now if we could do a video of the old, defunct World Basketball League that would be about the same type of building as these.
Worth noting the Oklahoma City Blue played in the convention center across the street from the Paycom Center, but it got purchased by a movie studio to become their new studios so they got kicked out and had to move across the street.
4:24 Ft. Wayne resident here. Did you know that a street close to the arena was originally called Harry Baals Drive? And no, that's not a typo, our city's longest serving mayor in history had the name Harry Baals.
I work a lot of events at Comerica Center. It's not the worst place in the G League, but it can be a beating to get to the seats, which require you to take an escalator to the upper level, then walk down (though, floor seating is accessible from the main entrance concourse - such as it is). It wasn't designed like most arenas where you have the main concourse effectively at street level (similar to the American Airlines Center - and don't get me started on that antiquated eyesore in Dallas). There are 3-4 different concession stands in the south concourse and a few pop up stands (which are quite are pricy by minor league venue standards, even compared to AT&T Stadium, so plan accordingly) and, depending on the event, promo tables along the relatively narrow north concourse, which can make navigating that part of the arena difficult. You do, however, get a nice "360 view" from the concourses and the videoboards at the southern corners of the arena are somewhat similar to the set up at Toyota Stadium (also in Frisco). The southern end of the arena is used as a "party zone" and there's a merchandise stand there as well.
I would argue that NCAA fulfills more of the role of a minor league for the NBA, and the G League is closer a last chance in the evaluation window a player will get.
Also it takes WAY MORE talent to get to the G League then D1 college ball there is about 25 teams (idk the real answer) x11 (g league roster limit) is 275 roster spots when there is over 300 division 1 teams
Yeah this narrative that's developed over the last three or four years about all the elite high school talent eschewing college basketball and going to the GLeague has proven to be laughably incorrect
@@lawrencedockery9032 When Admiral Schoefeld played for the GoGo he became the only player to play in G League and NBA Game with the Wizards in the same day. He played at a school day matinees in the Morning for Capital City at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Southeast and was called up after the game and driven to the Capital One Arena to play for the Wizards that night.
@@rockvilleraven Um, ok. But he played his college ball at Tennessee so my point still stands about the high school talent going the college route and not the G League route
Couple of ex NBA arenas. The obvious one is of course the Nassau coliseum which didn't just host the Islanders but also the New York/New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets during their ABA days and is the place where they won their 2 ABA titles. The second is surprisingly Fort Wayne which was home to the Fort Wayne (Zollner) Pistons which eventually moved to Detroit. They were originally a factory team, similar vfl Wolfsburg in the football. The arena was built for them and hosted 2 NBA finals(although one marred by Match fixing rumors)
Also NYCB Live at Nassau Colisum was used a a temporary home for the Isles after the Barclays Center fiasco, until the UBS Arena at Belmont Park was finished.
And they were owned by the Zollander Piston company and had that name on their uniforms, they were originally known as the Fort Wayne Zollander Pistons. When they moved to Detroit it made too much sense to keep the Pistons nickname
I actually live in Southaven, MS (about 20 minutes south of downtown Memphis) and have been to the Landers Center (or as it used to be known, the DeSoto Civic Center) many times. From the time it opened until about 4 years ago the primary tenant was a minor league hockey team called the Mississippi RiverKings. They used to draw great crowds (usually around 5,000 people on a Friday or Saturday night) but folded a few years ago. I have been to a few of the Hustle games and none of them have had more than about 100 people there. They do use the place for concerts, most recently for Foreigner back in October, and Morgan Wallen set to play here in the near future. It also played host to a campaign rally for former President Trump back in September of 2018, as well as one for former Vice President Cheney back in 2007 or so. It's also used for high school graduations for all of the public schools in DeSoto County. I even had to go there for work every so often pre-pandemic as I work for a bankruptcy attorney and 341 meetings with the Trustee were held in one of the conference rooms. Also starting next month, the Landers Center will begin playing host to the Memphis Americans, a minor league indoor soccer team. And just last week they announced that there's going to be a $35 million expansion project of sorts with the addition of a convention center and a hotel, all of which is supposed to be completed by 2024.
The hustle's arenas seats are like that because of the hockey team that used to play there. The seats remain like that because of the indoor soccer team that still plays there. The landers center is also a convention center.
9:00 With you mentioning how this arena was in Canada, you made a mention of hockey. Paramount Fine Foods Centre is also the home of the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of the top major junior hockey leagues in the country.
I was at the Ignite’s opening game at their brand new Dollar loan center arena. It’s just right for basketball and within one mile of the 215 highway and a casino
~14:40 the elevated sections look like they are extending the ground level floor space. Large empty areas like that tend to be used for helping smooth traffic around the arena, allow for a longer line to form at concessions or bathrooms (it might have some tables/seats so do not need to bring food back to chairs, but can still watch game while eating, hard to tell from this angle), not official use but good spot for people to meet at. Some will also use space like that for bands, cheerleaders, or other entertainment to perform during game, time outs, or longer breaks.
Well the Gateway Center Arena wasn't built in the middle of a department store... but it was built in the middle of a convention center so that's worth something 😂😂😂
I think the salt lake stars should move to where the Utah grizzlies hockey team plays because there current place is a community college basketball arena and it’s super small and the Maverick center is just like these other ones
Sadly, the former arena next to Wells Fargo is no longer an arena; they took out all the seats in Vets and made the whole interior into a convention center.
Minor league basketball has never been very popular and is far less popular than minor league baseball and hockey. Before the G League there were many minor basketball leagues that went away and folded. Before the G League, the CBA was the most successful minor basketball league for many years. When they went away The G league was the only big minor league standing.
I remember going to a Washington Congressionals USBL game at UDC. The G league was formed by the NBA after Isaiah Thomas ran the Continental Basketball Association intiu bankruptcy and the NBA needed a developmetal league.
Keeping with the minor league theme, you should do AHL arenas
College hockey as well or CHL arenas too. There are plenty to choose from. I've been to many AHL aremas in the New England region.
@@danielflynn8530 the Raptors 905 stadium is a CHL arena.

Yes Brandon, you are big brain
Changing the Maine Red Claws from a cool regionally accurate name to the Celtics again was a sin
I’ll say. And the fact that they kept the green lobster as the logo makes no sense either
A cool thing about the Mad Ants arena is that it hosted NBA basketball in the 1950s, before the Pistons moved to Detroit.
It also hosted a NBA All-Star game in the 1950's.

Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines is the home of both the Iowa Wolves & Iowa Wild.
This is great. Not enough attention is given to the minors.
LETS GO WOLVES! Great to see our venue in Wells Fargo Arena represented around the country in this video🐺 I am a season ticket holder.
