Mandelbaum is my favorite Dante translator in English, no contest. He's a legend. He also translated the Aeneid which is also a wonderful translation, I recommend it.

I read this very edition at the beginning of the year. It's fantastic. It's the only translation I've read so I can't compare but I loved it. Inferno and Purgatorio were my favorites while Paradiso was beyond my ability to comprehend being that I am not a theologian.

In case you’re interested, I’ve recorded a playlist with one video for each canto of Paradiso, explaining the content (being Italian and catholic).

Being Brazilian, my favorite translation is by Cristiano Martins. Portuguese speakers are privileged with Comedia's translations, due to the similarities that Portuguese has with Italian. There are very good English translations as well, but the recreation of the verses makes the translation very different from the original due to the big difference between English and Italian.

Outro brasileiro aqui, que demais! Estou terminando a leitura na tradução da Editora 34, mas pretendo adquirir outras traduções.

@@NandaMineirissima Já li esta. Muito boa também. Terminei a da l&pm semana passada e gostei bastante também. Tradução em prosa ajuda bastante na compreensão da obra. Boa leitura!

Yes! Wonderful video and great choice of translation. Allen Mandelbaum (together with Anthony Esolen) is my favorite translator, especially for Purgatorio and Paradiso. In my series of videos on the Divine Comedy, I used Robert Pinsky, Esolen, Mandelbaum and Mark Musa.

Everyman's Library is excellent, every time. My only gripe with this is the thickness of the pages. The illustrations were already hard to digitize, and the text ghosting is making them no favors. I like how big they are though, and how they use some gutter to not hide the illustrations between page folds. If you want to see more detail, try some black paper at the back of the illustrations. This will eliminate any ghosting
