- Tired of waiting for your flat iron or curling iron to cool down so you can put it in your suitcase? In this video, I’ll show you how to make a heat resistant travel case for your hair styling iron. There’s a divider inside to keep the appliance and cord separate, so you can pack up the iron while it's still warm, and be on your way.

---- supply list ----
To make this project, you'll need:
14"x16" fabric (or a fat quarter)
14"x16" medium loft batting
1/2 yard ironing board cover fabric
3" sew in velco (3/4" wide)
46" bias tape (extra wide, double fold)
a sewing machine and everything that goes with that, including scissors, thread & pins
8.5"x16" piece of paper, pen, ruler
I am definitely going to try this pattern. Thank you for the easy to understand instructions.
Fabulous!

yay!
Beautiful instructional video! Thank you!
Thanks for the nice words, Debra! :)
Accidental ASMR, so relaxing ❤
haha! Fantastic. :) Thanks for watching!
Hi You have the best TH-cam video on how to make this case. Mine turned out really nice, except it is too big. If I had measured my curling iron before I started, I could have made it 4 inches shorter. Oh well, I may just make another! Thanks for the video
Thanks for commenting! I'm so happy to hear that your case turned out well. It's a good point that appliances may vary in size! Now that you know the technique, you can make custom pouches for all kinds of things you might like to store. I've been thinking about adapting it to hold casserole dishes for potlucks! Take care, Nancy
Thankyou
I have just bought some ironing board fabric but has a backing on it and its half cm thick,so I don't think I need to use the extra batting
Nice! That was a lucky find!
@@NancyGamon it was all I could get in the UK
Hi, where did you get the patting and ironing fabric? There are so many options and I don’t want to spend to much! Thanks so much for the video
Hi Nicole, the ironing board cover fabric is available cut to measure at the local fabric shop or online, so you can buy just the amount you need. Low loft batting usually comes in a package, but could be substituted with a thin old towel, lightweight old sweatshirt or an old lightweight blanket. You just want a little something in there to protect the appliance against dings. If you feel comfortable venturing out to your local fabric store, a clerk there should be able to help you find some low cost solutions. Hope that helps! Nancy
How much material will a yard wotk
You should be able to get 4 or 5 travel cases out of a yard of fabric. Each one uses roughly a fat quarter. The complete supply list (will more exact measurements) is contained in the video description. Nancy
Can u use insul brite with like an upholstery fabric instead of iron board fabric.
Thanks so much for your question, Karen. I had never heard of Insul Bright and it looks interesting! Since it appears to be appropriate for use in making potholders, it seems reasonable to think that it would also withstand the heat of a warm hair styling appliance. From what I can tell about it, just reading online, it looks like it would be an efficient substitute for both the batting and the ironing board fabric. If you give it a try, do please let me know how it turns out! Nancy
@@NancyGamon I also started to think though would a hot iron burn the fabric
If not ironing board fabric might have to stick with what u said. Or don’t put hot iron in it lol
I did find an article by someone who was using Insul Bright them to make potholders. Do you have a little scrap around? Might be worth a test. I do notice that the product is billed as "heat resistant, not heat proof". The person creating potholders was using a double layer of Insul Bright, which might defeat the purpose of making the substitution for this pattern!
Is the batting polyester?
Hi Paula, I moved recently and haven't bumped into that item yet in my unpacking... but I'm almost 100% certain that you are correct. Nancy
@@NancyGamon thank you. I'm a newbie so I have to have everything spelled out for me. Thank you!😊
Is 14 x16 or 16x 8.5?
When the case is open, it is 16" long x 8.5" high. When the case is closed, it is 16" long x 5.5" high.
Sorry, the different fabrics are comfusing
I can see how that could happen!
Terrible directions. Is there a lining too.
The case is made up of three layers: the decorative outer fabric, a soft middle layer of batting or padding, and a heat resistant inner lining (ironing board fabric). The middle divider is made of the lining fabric as well.
