      Thank you so much for posting this, Kat! I have been on the hunt for a Phiddipus Regius and Velvet Spiders for a few months now and haven’t had much luck (aside from finding them on some sites I didn’t feel confident about). You’ve mentioned Tom before but I wasn’t sure how stocked he is with spiders so I never reached out to him. So this video and comment have come at the right time. I will be emailing him tonight. ☺️

    I love red back jumping spiders! They used to terrify me for years, but recently I befriended one in my backyard! They are all over where I live, I see them all the time in the summer and they are one of the coolest spiders I’ve seen:)

    So happy to see you get these guys! These guys were my first jumping spiders and I'm happy to say I have a clutch coming very soon. My mama's named Huffy and we love her to pieces, she's incredibly gentle and nice to everyone.

    I actually had a red phase male jump into my car outside of my job and just chill on my leg for the longest time until I coaxed him into my hand so I could put him on a tree. I wanted to keep him so bad but I knew my mom would freak out if I brought a spider home😂

    I have to say, I am a person with arachnophobia and I was kinda terrified each time you were getting out the spiders, but I love hearing people talk about what they like and watch as they share their passion. You sound so happy just like I am with my animals, and I love that. I loved their little homes you made and how you look so confident talking.
    Even if spiders are not my favourite, you look like a good person and whatever animal you decide to take home, you look like someone who will take great care of them, and that is enough for me to appreciate your video.

      @@dryingoutrn true true, I see them all over. But it's funny because there's a specific rock I'm referring to where I can always find a similar looking spider. I'm not sure if it's the same one or if it keeps reproducing.

    All the different jumping spider species are so interesting to see and learn about. I'm a new keeper as of today, and already there's so many species I'd love to keep one day, not just jumpers, but tarantulas too. My jumper is a p. princeps, he's currently i5 and so sweet and adorable, already wanting to be handled and interacting with me. I'm falling more and more in love with spiders as time goes on!

You get so excited! Who knew opening up paper towel bundles could be so entertaining to watch. I basically watch your videos sometimes just to watch you do stuff.
    You're so artsy craftsy!😆😆 those 2 little houses you've made are SO EFFING ADORABLE!! I love the tiny Amanita Muscaria mushrooms you've put in there are perfect. I expect to see a little forest faery in their somewhere playing with their new friends!

    I had a female Johnsoni myself and from what I heard they’re supposed to be more aggressive than other species, but she was so easy to maintain and keep, I only kept her because she was missing a leg when I found her and it was winter time in my backyard so when it became spring I released her back into the bushes with her newly grown leg, beautiful experience.

    Aw! I love jumping spiders. They are amazing and smart spiders. I get wild jumping spiders in my apartment and I always give them a bug before setting them outside in the bushes. They always appreciate the food. They don't bite and they can be easy to handle. I use to house spiders and toads. I was a animal rescuer with an exotic licenses. I worked for a local zoo. My cat Ginger Beans never tires to hurt the spiders, he's learned to show me and I will take care of it. He makes a gagging face when he sniff's bug's and spiders.

    Phidippus Johnsoni! When they're young they build their web on the ground. They're a bit skittish but super fun to watch. I have them wild outside my house 😊 love their green and red colors. This spring I was looking for jumpers to keep and when I nearly gave up I saw this gorgeous face staring at me 😍 green chelicerae, cobalt blue eyes and some red on her back when she turned around. Obviously a female that had wintered over and was way too smart to catch. But a few days later I found a juvenile female in the tall grass and she's still with me 😊 I live on the Canadian border

  • @IllusionQueen4Eva
    @IllusionQueen4Eva ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw one in person for the first time today. I was out in my front yard catching flies for my pet jumping spider. I saw something on the ground and thought it was a fly, but instead of green, it was black with a bit of red. I wanted a closer look so I tried to coax it into my container that I was using to catch flies with. When I put the container in front of it, it turned around to look at it, so I knew it was a species with good eyesight, likely another jumper. A quick photo upload to iNaturalist revealed that it's a Phiddipus johnsoni. I've never seen this species of jumper in person before, so I'm definitely keeping it. It still has the four dots on its back, so I guess it's not mature yet. I'm really hoping that it matures female.

So the temps are going to need to be much cooler than what you keep your Regius at. Just wanted to give you that tip because overheating a jumper will kill them. Dun dun duuuuuunnn. We actually just found a “dark formed” Johnsoni mature gravid (I think) female. First time seeing one of those! Hopefully we will have babies! She is the sweetest thing! Anyway, I have Johnsonis all over the place! Love them. Good luck! I hope yours are doing well.

Saw her scurrying across the ground at the gas station and didn't want her to get stepped on so just put my hand down she crawled up into it and stayed on my hands for about a half an hour before I thought I should get a container to put her in and take her home. Most jumping spiders I find at work hang out for a few minutes and then take off

    6:29 I found a P. johnsoni outside my house and it's a lot smaller than my P. regius, so I was pretty disappointed, I thought it was a male. But it's been 11 months since its last molt and still the abdomen is not fully red, meaning that it must be a female. She also has an epigyne to confirm that. So no, they don't get as big as the P. regius.

    Such cool spiders, It's unfortunate we don't have them in my country in the wild. I did find a Salticus Scenicus today or rather it found me it was crawling on my leg and I saw it after I noticed something itching a bit. It was a tiny juvenile and was excited to see a zebra jumping spider again. Most I see around my back terrace and shed is the Marpissa Muscosa species which are also pretty cool but not as beautiful looking. The juvenile zebra I saw today had beautiful black and white colouring and white pedipalps. Glad I could take a quick photo of it walking on my arm before I put it back in a plant in my yard and when I did put it back and checked back later I saw a baby zebra jumping spider walking on the flowerbox aswell the a bit bigger than the size of a needle pin
