  • We visit and climb Mount Marcy, the rooftop of New York. Located in the High Peaks Wilderness in the Adirondack Mountains, the highest point in the state has an elevation of 5,343 feet. The only range in New York with peaks over 5,000 feet the Adirondacks and Mt. Marcy offer much in the exploration. Their rugged and remote character hide a rich history and they have bore witness to several key events in for both New York and the United States. Join us as we explore America and go highpointing!

Friends and fellow highpointers! I think I pronounce Adirondacks at least five different ways in this episode. If you feel the urge to comment on that fact just reply to this one.

Lol, having lived there I definitely am pretty sure it's AdirONdacks that being said, you definitely got better.
TBF, when I first moved there I had pronounced ALLbany-Albany.

You did fine Skye 👍 My Mom is from Wisconsin, and She pronounces it the way you did the first time you said it at the beginning. Adirondack is a little bit of a tongue twister

46:40 I remember that clearing. I got 2 good pictures there using panoramic mode for both sides of that clearing. Edit to add: Yeah, that last mile absolutely is a mountain mile. It's just non-stop climbing from there on out.

Im so exicted that you did this one. I plan to do Marcy in the northern spring. Which usually isn't until late April or May.

I am looking forward to listen to this one. Rural New York is overlooked everytime New York is mentioned.

Lot of hidden treasures in New York, particularly in this area. I'll definitely will be going back to the Adirondacks.

Incredible video! Mount Marcy looks like an amazing adventure, and I love the concept of highpointing. The views from the top must be absolutely breathtaking! Thanks for sharing your journey to New York's highest point-definitely adds to my hiking bucket list!

Wow. A dizzying amount of NY State history jam packed into this one on my home range highpoint. But my favorite part may have been your incorporation of a map of the Northeast 2,000-foot prominence peaks at the 14 1/2 minute mark. Nice job.

I definitely need to make sure I take some bug spray after watching this video. Looks like a nice challenging scramble to to the top!

Some great history here!. That shot at 1:09 is my favorite. Just spectacular stuff. A little PTSD though from your trail description and hike. I still haven't gotten those rocks out of my head yet. I definitely underestimated this hike and glad I don't have to do it again.

Early morning on the third day. Got lucky with the ground fog and the sun just coming up. Really added a cool effect.

Skye, ypu mentioned Slide Mountain, highest point in The Catskills. Have you considered doing a video/hike there?

I've been thinking of a follow on Rooftops series looking at the highest points in ranges that don't have state highpoints, so to answer the question. Yes, I'm considering Slide Mountain.
