It's fascinating that how people do their rankings for different Batman movies seems to really depend upon the generation that saw them. I don't think it's because "nostalgia effect," I think it's because the movies speak to different preferences that really relate to the times in which people lived. Personally, I have Batman 1989 and Dark Knight (2008) in a dead heat, and I never thought I would say that. I wonder if the new Batman will deliver its promise of a newer, more "era-relevant" Joker. It is to be seen, though.
Because people love the Joker. End of. What they fail to see is that without that character, The Dark Knight is a pretty standard affair. The Dark Knight Rises is a much more interesting movie.
Batman begins is the best Batman film to date. I know the Dark Knight is a masterpiece but Batman begins is just perfection. DeanKnight333 Batman Begins is by far my favorite and the emotional scars Bruce has from his parents death is well represented in it. Amazing character development for Bruce.
Batman begins was indeed awsome and rachel was a much better actor in that movie compared to the dark knight and gotham was so extremely good made but i gotta say the dark knight still wins because the amazing work with the joker
The dark knight is in my opinion the best movie ever, what could have mate batman begins better (again in my opinion) is the last 30 minutes, the start great, music great, but the ending just reminds me of the bad comic books
The B-Man Rises my thoughts exactly! Nolan revealed the real embodiment of Batman and the true personality of Bruce. The only movies that actually makes batman a three dimensional character and shows there's more to batman than a emotionless, calculating, dark, bruiting, and cold vigilante.
Dark Knight Rises is in my opinion the second best superhero film ever. Close to The Dark Knight. Although i love Batman Begins i didnt enjoy it as much as others
FiZzLE 030 I don't know if I would go that far but it is neck in neck. It is kind of hard to compare animation to live action but it is definitely better than the Burton and Schumacher movies. Dark Knight returns and Under the Red Hood are great as well but don't match the greatness of Mask tof the Phantasm.
+Mike Honcho The Burton Batman movies, or at least the first one, are overrated. They sideline Batman and have numerous plot holes or conveniences. The first one also lacks character depth. Mask of the Phantasm is definitely much better, its character depth is fantastic, it doesn't sideline any of its main characters, and its plot makes complete sense.
Top 10s 'N' Tributes I have to agree with you. The thing that makes Batman Mask of the Phantasm so great is the character of Batman. He has so much depth and emotion. That depth was not present in the Burton movies. Then of course the Joker shows up in the last act of the movie and it makes the movie even more epic.
Mike Honcho *Spoilers for Mask of the Phantasm* Andrea also receives fantastic character depth in the movie and their conflict towards the end of the film, combined with the Joker's intervention makes it one of the most satisfying climaxes in any superhero movie ever.
Couldn't agree more with that. They have set the bar for which all future Batman movies are to be judged. This, of course, includes Matt Reeves' 2022 The Batman. It's a great movie and I love it, and when it becomes a trilogy I can effectively compare it to TDKT. Until then, though, it's a great standalone Batman movie and The Dark Knight Trilogy reigns supreme.
I've never understood the "How did he get to the city" complaint, wasn't it explained in Batman Begins that Bruce had previously travelled the world with no funds and that there was an underground railroad just outside of Gotham that led to the caves of Wayne Manor.
I remember when I was at Pembroke and it was my last night there. I decided to watch The Dark Knight, but then I fell asleep during the movie. But it was worth it.
Nicholson was not better in any way because all he was was a gangster and an amped up version of himself. Hamills voice will always be the best animated Joker, but animation is just easy, all you have to worry about is your voice. Ledger took the Joker and turned him on its head and into something deep embedded into the Jokers psyche that nobody else ever did
+M.C. Clap Yo Handz 23 Yeah but when you think about it Nicholson killed more people than Ledger did. Ledger made threats but Nicholson actually killed and did not say I will blow up the ferrys at midnight when he had all that time to do it he still got his butt handed to him.
+Crzypengu thats true but Nicholson did it for the hell of it. the point of the ferry scene was to (at least attempt to) show Batman that the people he protects could turn on each other for their better good at any time. It was just movie majic that they didnt pretty much hahaha
John Galstyan Meh, I have like only watched 4-5 Batman movies, and a few episodes of the animated series, and these episodes I don't even remember. So I don't really care xD
I like the Tim Burton Batman his sarcasm and seriousness is a perfect balance the movies are gold and Micheal Keaton is such a mysterious and dark Batman.
Jonathan Seitz I love Batman Begins and Dark Knight and I really like Christopher Nolan. However, I thought Dark Knight Rises was very disappointing and it's annoying to hear Nolan fanboys calling Keaton, West and Conroy's Batman as not the actual Batman and saying Christian Bale's Batman is the only good version of Batman! Those three basically established Batman into massive popularity outside the comics!
Jonathan Seitz In addition, even though I was born in the late 90's and never grew up with The Animated Series, my first experience with Batman was a Video Tape of Batman The Animated Series!
These are tough calls, but The Dark Knight is in a league of its own. It's going to be remembered for years to come as a masterpiece of cinema, not just a superhero movie, which it isn't anyway. The others never stood a chance despite them being great as well
Black panther is a great movie and way better than the dark knight. I was very disappointed with the dark knight in so many ways. Most of the time when a movie is way too inaccurate from the source people get mad even if its just a little bit but this movie is way too off to batman in so many ways. You might as well say mr freeze with a flamethrower is the best mr freeze ever and should get a oscar. The animated batman films are way better than the dark knight. There is too many reasons for me to not like the dark knight
No Clue Kid you think rotten tomato score means something? Lol no one gives a shit . The dark knight is a cinematic masterpiece. Black panther is just another Mcu film
Derrive how is it a masterpiece when it is so inaccurate to batman and got so many things wrong with gotham, batmobile, 2face, and the joker? The animated series and movies are way better and more accurate to batman. The joker is missing almost everything from the character. All ledger had was the crazy side. Wheres the ace chemicals origin and all his famous joker weapons? Might as well make mr freeze next and give him a flamethrower instead of a freeze gun and say thats the best mr freeze. Danys penguin from batman returns is way off too just as much as ledgers joker. The worst part is he isnt even funny and instead batman is funny for once in a batman movie. So many people make fun of bales batman on youtube channels like collegehumor for example. If your batman is more funny to people than your joker, then you have a big problem with your movie. Harvey was the best thing about the movie untill they ruined him by making his orgins wrong on top of killing him off way too fast not giving the 2 face fans enough screen time of 2 face to also appear in the sequel. Also in that situation we all know from the comics and cartoons that 2 face would of killed the joker or whoever made him. In the comics and cartoons he never had a trial of flipping the coin in that situation. Both sides would hate the person and want them dead. If i had to rank only the nolan ones i would put rises on top then begins because i like bane and ras much more than the joker. The joker is only number 7 on my list of favorite batman villians. I still like the joker in the cartoons played by mark and thought jack came the closest in the lobe action to feeling like the joker so far. Keaton has been the best live action batman so far. The animated batman stuff has been the best for batman so far.
Same its the whole nostalgia and see that batmobile sweep through the leaves at night at the start, And of course iconic original batman logo on cover VHS
+the fazbear gamer Batman Begins (2005) is half way there, still looks fresh outta the box and even more entertaining than most other super hero movie being made today
+ᔕTEEᒪ ᗷᑌᗷᗷᒪE Nolans trilogy was badass with a sense of realism and dynamic action but sometimes, we just don't want to see realism. We want A) a great batman(voice as well) B) plenty of action C) a strong adaptation from source material whilst capturing batmans true feelings. Under the Red Hood and Mask of the phantasm did this.
***** I would agree with TDK since after rachels death, It was just pure emotional but if you watch MOTP and UTRH, you will see it as more emotional, it does depend on how people define it as emotional. Some people literally don't feel it whilst others do.
Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger were the most surprising actors to play each their respective role, unforgettable, even though Christian Bale was excellent as the cape crusader.
Best Batman movies 1. The Dark Knight 2. The Dark Knight Rises 3. Batman Begins 4. Batman 5. Batman Returns 6. Batman: The Movie 7. Batman Forever 8. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 9. Batman & Robin
Honestly, in my opinion, Returns felt like how 1989 Batman was, and i would blame Burton for it. Dont get me wrong, i do like it, but it wasnt anything new, other than the villians. It just kinda felt recycled. But, hey, it DID make it into the top 5. So you got that, at least
+Shawn Shuman It's really not that good. I was so excited to see it and was very disappointed when I watched it. Truly the only good film in that series is the original 1989 film. It's three sequels are progressively worse. (though I will say _Returns_ is MUCH better than _Forever_ or _Batman & Robin_) And no, I don't favor Nolan's films. I'd take Burton's original or many of the animated films before the others.
My Top 5 Best Batman Movies of All Time! #5. The Lego Batman Movie #4. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm #3. The Dark Knight Rises #2. Batman Begins #1. The Dark Knight
My question is, even being as critically acclaimed and successful as it is, how and why is Rises so underrated? To me, the only thing that separates TDK and TDKR is Ledger's performance. Rises is incredible, and a truly great conclusion to a masterpiece of a trilogy. It's #2 on my list.
That 60s Batman movie... the only way I can describe is a treasure. I have a picture from it of Batman and Robin on the submarine at the end hanging on my wall.
+Titan HighlightsHD sorry but it called in my country Batman contre le Fantôme masqué. i know it's not its real name but when you called like that all your childhood. you have difficulties to call it another way ^^
+kiorili and Batman Beyond :Return of the joker deserves to be in top 10 , not Batman Forever... Batman forever should be in Honorable mentions ... but batman beyond return of the joker should be in top 10 easily.
Batman Returns is soooo underrated. Michelle Pfieffer the best Catwoman of all time and Danny Devito's performance is as underrated as the film is. It should've at least been in the top 4.
For me personally: 1. Batman Returns 2. Dark Knight Rises 3. Phantom Mask. No better director than Burton to create the authentic Gotham set/atmosphere. Plus Returns had the best customes, batmobile and actors, Batman (Keaton), Catwoman (Pfeiffer) and Penguin (Devito).
@@thenoirknight5729 batman 89 has better gotham although return still have good gotham, but return have better villains and the best catwoman and one of the best batman
Heath Ledger as the Joker made The Dark Knight great which is why in this video you don't see Batman actually in much of the footage for that entry. Without him it would have been an average film.
+newfacepaula Honestly i watched the Dark knight when i was younger and didn't even know Ledger was dead yet it was one of the most memorable films ever, you're falling under the category who of people who want to find some little way to be different from the crowd.
+newfacepaula Yeah same with the guy above. The first time I watched TDK was just on HBO and I had no idea who Heath Ledger was and I thought the movie was amazing, best comic book movie imo. I've never watched any of his films before and I didn't know back then that he was dead. And Batman Begins and TDKR did not suck. You sound like a Marvel fanboy.
+Steven Turner stop..you sound like an arrogant fan boy. He was simply putting it out there for anyone who didn't know. which contrary to your ignorant assumption, I'm sure there are quite a few who didn't know this.
+Miles Doyle lol you inferred a lot from what I said a little overreaction on your part. I see this fact posted on Facebook, 9gag and other sites at least once a month and watchmojo also mentioned it on one video also it's pretty damn well known at this point. I wasn't coming across as arrogant at all just stating its been mentioned countless times. No need to be a dick bruh (intentionally sounding a douche whilst not insulting you, cause you'll no doubt pick up on it)
I was simply trying to tell a cool and funny fact about the movie, and I knew some people did know BUT not everyone knows! So stop commenting "no shit sherlock" and "everyone knows that" because not everyone knows that as read above.
+Kemyon Patrick mate it's a widely known fact get you acted like you're the first to know the film is 7 years old and it's been a known fact for as long.

Thank you for recognizing that. It gets so much criticism because of the veer off of Burton's dark Batman, but all in all I think it is the best of those four. Burton's Batman movies "looked" good, but for me, they were lacking in substance. BF had a bit of a goofy exterior, but what do you expect from a movie featuring Jim Carrey as the lead villain? Batman Returns, and even Batman for that matter, had its share of camp, too. But when it comes to goofy campiness, NONE could possibly be worse that Batman & Robin. It was SO BAD! Even Batman The Movie with West/Ward was better. It was a long, lonely eight years of exile before Nolan resurrected and literally saved Batman from ruin. And I like what Reeves has done so far, but let's see how he follows it up. I desperately want to see Robin done right in his rendition. O'Donnell was great in BF, but even he sunk into the quicksand of B&R. Hope Reeves does the character lasting justice.

Top 10s 'N' Tributes
I have to agree with you. The thing that makes Batman Mask of the Phantasm so great is the character of Batman. He has so much depth and emotion. That depth was not present in the Burton movies. Then of course the Joker shows up in the last act of the movie and it makes the movie even more epic.
Mike Honcho *Spoilers for Mask of the Phantasm*
Andrea also receives fantastic character depth in the movie and their conflict towards the end of the film, combined with the Joker's intervention makes it one of the most satisfying climaxes in any superhero movie ever.

Nolan's batman is top 3 for me in no particular order. They're just too good and set the bar for future superhero films. True masterpiece
Couldn't agree more with that. They have set the bar for which all future Batman movies are to be judged. This, of course, includes Matt Reeves' 2022 The Batman. It's a great movie and I love it, and when it becomes a trilogy I can effectively compare it to TDKT. Until then, though, it's a great standalone Batman movie and The Dark Knight Trilogy reigns supreme.
idc what anybody says but I love the entire TDK Trilogy! I don't care how he got to the city.
I've never understood the "How did he get to the city" complaint, wasn't it explained in Batman Begins that Bruce had previously travelled the world with no funds and that there was an underground railroad just outside of Gotham that led to the caves of Wayne Manor.
It's my favourite trilogy
Best Trilogy and my favorite film of all time.
He got to the city because he's batman
+Sherhan Mahmud Shame for me after Batman got back into Gotham everything from it ruined the film for me!
Best joker: Heath ledger

I remember when I was at Pembroke and it was my last night there. I decided to watch The Dark Knight, but then I fell asleep during the movie. But it was worth it.
Fun fact: Heath Ledger isn't the best Joker. Best performance? For sure. But Nicholson and Hamill are by far better versions of the character.
Hamill > Ledger > Nicholson That's how I see it.
+M.C. Clap Yo Handz 23 I can agree with that

The Dark Knight is numero uno.
Yep. Like I said. Although, it is a damn good movie xP
Man, it feels hard to say it, but I think they got number one right. And number two too...
Batman Returns should be number three though...
+Eric Cartman How can they put under the red hood in the bottom?
John Galstyan Meh, I have like only watched 4-5 Batman movies, and a few episodes of the animated series, and these episodes I don't even remember. So I don't really care xD

+The Cinematic Mind Hell yeah!!

That sad day when batman forever is in top ten... I guess Batman hasn't had A LOT of great movies but no superhero has had 10 GOOD movies.. right?
Batman Forever is good, or at least to me. I can get behind why it's in the top 10, cuz it's for me too.
These are tough calls, but The Dark Knight is in a league of its own. It's going to be remembered for years to come as a masterpiece of cinema, not just a superhero movie, which it isn't anyway. The others never stood a chance despite them being great as well
And then black panthers tomatometer came out...
Oliver Queen please don't compare the Dark Knight movies to Black Panther. Dark Knight as a film is in a league of its own
Spoiler its Dark Knight

Batman 1989 will always be my favourite Batman movie. The Dark Knight comes close, but 1989 takes the cake for me.
Definitely 1989, Jack Nicolas is a legend!
Same its the whole nostalgia and see that batmobile sweep through the leaves at night at the start,
And of course iconic original batman logo on cover VHS
In my opinion, I don't think any other batman movie can beat Nolan's "The dark knight" trilogy. Just saying.
+ᔕTEEᒪ ᗷᑌᗷᗷᒪE Lol, for now, but in 20 years time, it will be like watching what its like to watch black and white for us
+ᔕTEEᒪ ᗷᑌᗷᗷᒪE Under the Red Hood and Mask of the Phantasam are easily better then Rises for me.
Mask of the Phantasm for me is the most dark and also iconic. I love it.
In meanning wa better than movies Batman Forever and Batman And Robin, and for me ythan few more animated films
Batman 89 laid the groundwork by being the first live action darker Batman and that allowed for the evolution into Nolans trilogy
Michael Keaton and Heath Ledger were the most surprising actors to play each their respective role, unforgettable, even though Christian Bale was excellent as the cape crusader.
Mask of the Phantasm should have been at least #2, in my opinion. Certainly higher than The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Rises.

How is Batman Returns not higher on this list? That movie has so many ICONIC scenes.
+Shawn Shuman "Meow"
Honestly, in my opinion, Returns felt like how 1989 Batman was, and i would blame Burton for it. Dont get me wrong, i do like it, but it wasnt anything new, other than the villians. It just kinda felt recycled. But, hey, it DID make it into the top 5. So you got that, at least
I would at least have put it above The Dark Knight Returns.
+Shawn Shuman
It's really not that good. I was so excited to see it and was very disappointed when I watched it.
Truly the only good film in that series is the original 1989 film. It's three sequels are progressively worse. (though I will say _Returns_ is MUCH better than _Forever_ or _Batman & Robin_)
And no, I don't favor Nolan's films. I'd take Burton's original or many of the animated films before the others.
