      I don't believe the license price model is stable yet based on the information I got from my company internally. There is a rough documentation online as of today for the current plan but it's a bit complicated I would say. I'm hoping MS could simplify it a bit

    Our organization has integrated Power BI as our primary BI tool for the frontend.
    Presently, we're transitioning to utilizing Databricks on Azure as our data platform, opting against Fabric. What are your insights regarding Databricks? Do you believe Fabric is sufficiently mature for large-scale enterprises?

  • @MT-oy2uk
    @MT-oy2uk ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We are relaying on power bi dataflows a lot in our organization. Dozens of users have premium per user license and data is mainly stored in Power BI dataflows for reports and datasets. Will this change the way we work and/or pricing?

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Microsoft Fabric won't change the current Power BI Licensing. It would be some more SKUs for that, but you still would have your dataflows and Power BI working as it does right now with your current licenses.

    Great video Reza, thanks. Often these simple explanations are hard to find.
    Do you have an article or video on when to shift to the more complex data warehousing solutions rather than leaving data in the Power BI model. My experience is that this is too complex for many small businesses but I'd appreciate your insights on when it becomes worth the investment and what the trigger would be to change.

    Didn't get what is this all about. Maybe this is clear for Synapse or similar folks, but not for a Power BI report developer. You say "umbrella". What sort of umbrella? Power Query is an umbrella for all sorts of data sources. Looks like Fabric is an umbrella of an umbrella?

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are things that you cannot do with Power BI, that is where the Fabric comes in, for large scale Data movement, applying machine leaning algorithms on it (more than what you can do with Power Query and API calls), the storage of structured and unstructured data etc.

      @@RADACAD yes, where there data is on higher scale and have data architecture from many sources of structured and unstructured data then it needs data lake, data warehouse, big data computing platform like data bricks, synapse, data bricks, spark, ETL tool and at end reporting. It was there before. But it seems like this fabric is making closer Integration of all these tools.

    is fabric a standalone app? Or is it more of a suite and framework of other apps?

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is more like a suite. You can call the entire solution as Microsoft Fabric solution, because you create it in Microsoft Fabric portal etc. But different implementation might use different workloads of it.

    It looks like the tools are the same as before but now available in one place? So it is still required to learn syntax, code,... for each service individually if I understood correctly?

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is right, for learning Microsoft Fabric in deep, you need to learn Power BI, Azure Data Factor, and Synapse in Deep. They have some enhancements now for example, Power BI comes with the new DirectLake option, but still principals are the same, you would need to learn the technologies.

  • @decentmendreams

    Thanks for the video.
    You mentioned the license can be used for other workloads too. Will the licensing be such that it will be valuable Only if all components are used? Or will scaled up and down in some ways? (still find it hard that there is no automated Power BI Embedding license start/pause mechanism)

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      F SKUs for Fabric can be turned off and down. but there will be other SKUs in the future with a different style as well. I'll share a licensing video soon.
      Basically you will get the license, and that gives you a capacity to work on, behind the scene of that capacity the compute power can be used for all the workloads in your workspaces.

  • @AndresLopez-ee5su
    @AndresLopez-ee5su ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Reza for this informative video, however (and I quickly scanned comment and did not see any reference to this) is Fabric only available for Power BI tenants with Premium capacity? We only have PBI Pro and a a few PPU licenses.

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Fabric's licensing is different from Power BI. These days you can apply for a 60 days trial.
      In short, Fabric licensing is combined version of per user and per capacity based. I will publish a video about it.
      Your Power BI per user licenses won't be enough for Fabric, no matter Pro or PPU. you would need a capacity. Fabric licenses are F skus.

      You definitely need to learn DAX for working with Power BI anytime. So investing on learning it would be money well spend. All other technologies related to Power BI, they complement it, won't replace DAX

    • @isaachendricks5773
      @isaachendricks5773 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's probably worth noting that you can use chatgpt to write and troubleshoot fairly complex Dax expressions right now.
      So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that copilot will probably write most Dax for you eventually.
      Of course, I'm just speculating, but it seems very plausible to me.

    • @Yavin4
      @Yavin4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a huge DAX fan. If possible, I would rather create a view or a stored procedure at the source and connect to that. Or think about some other workaround.
