    I will respond to comments in this pinned post as it avoids repetition.
    First test was actually my EE mobile. Total cock up for me as my phone had defaulted to it’s mobile account when I first tried it. 🙄👍. I ran several tests and got very similar results but managed to use the wrong blooming clips in the edit. I made this video on my phone. Normally I use an iPad. I need new glasses.
    High cost
    You have to buy the dish. Mine cost £419 and then it’s £96 a month. Now that is expensive but Starlink do let you pause the service when it’s not needed. Running a TH-cam channel needs a robust connection so needs must for us.
    Be aware you can only use the unlimited Roaming for a max of 60 days in a country other than where the account is registered
    They do cheaper plans as well 👍
    Sun/cloud has no effect. Very heavy rain/snow can. It can melt snow if needed and I suspect that might even work on the skylight. Time will tell.

      That's excellent for mobile internet and cheaper that the original Starlink set-up. Ithink I'll wait until it comes down to nearer what I'm paying for an EE unlimited sim though or until the sim goes up in price to meet Starlink 😂. I really like the roof vent solution. The ultimate would be a through the roof mount like the TV aerials have or do you use it at home instead of a wired Broadband connection ?

      When you say 60 days, is that per country or in total outside of your country and over what period? Trying to decide if it’s worth getting for a 6 month trip around Europe and east Europe. If it’s only 60 days in a year that’ll be no use but if it’s 60 days per each country that is useful

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it’s 60 days a year only. Another viewer said they don’t enforce it. It would be interesting to see if any youtuber is reporting an issue with it. We are unlikely to need more but if I get the chance I will test it and report.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I will trial it at home as well and if it works well enough I will cancel my home broadband and the EE router contract also. If that happens it will only cost me a few quid more than I was already paying for a better service.

      @@LifeistooshortCK yep that was the thinking behind my original comment. I actually use an EE data card in a 4G router because the broadband is rubbish in my part of Gloucestershire and put it in a portable hotspot when I travel. So am thinking that with the way things usually go starlink will eventually get nearer to the price of 4G/5G Internet and then I'll switch. I'm sure you'll be keeping us all updated Ken, as it goes along.

    I’ve been told that if the mini is stolen don’t cancel your service as if you do the thief would be able to activate it in their name. Just put it on pause and contact Starlink. Thanks for the idea on skylight mounting. At the moment ours is sitting in the skylight with it wide open to allow airflow and sitting on half drawn blind and insect screens. As it’s so light it doesn’t strain them, but not ideal.

    Thank you! Good to know that the Starlink Mini works well from the interior of your van, through the window glass or skylight glass.... of course, depending on your directional facing to the sky. One big advantage of that, is to be of use if you should suddenly need to leave your location, or if the weather changes as you prepare to leave, you don't need to go outside to pack it in. A great tip! Thanks!

    If $$$ is unlimited, guess it works for some, if that the case perhaps best mounted outside on vans roof (they must have options that allow this and for such locations, or have a perspex domed cover made), this would then allow cabled access (faster) and stop worries of theft (I am surprised your exterior cameras are not taken). Here in NZ we have a nationwide mobile company (formerly Vodafone) that are going for satellite communication soon, as against fixed land masts, this will be a much, much, cheaper option and I am sure you have some mobile companies in UK that again would provide this service, as a safer and cheaper option to Starlink. Personally, I am not a supporter of Elon Musk!! Good luck and stay safe. Kia Ora from New Zealand. 💜💜
