    Crosshair was always destined to abandon the Batch in favor of his supposed purpose. While Tech and Wrecker are opposites in intellect, Hunter and Crosshair are opposites in empathy. Whereas Hunter's enhanced situational awareness makes him susceptible to emotional influence, Crosshair's laser-focus makes him more guarded and detached. The entire Batch struggle to adapt to a new way of life, but for Crosshair to abandon his purpose as a soldier, despite the resolution of the war that created him, would be too much for his psyche to bear. While the rest of the Batch saw the new Empire for what it was after Order 66, Crosshair had to experience its abuse first-hand to understand that his brothers are the only ones who will accept him now. He is the biggest victim in this whole show.

    I also want to say that if most/all of the Clones did get their chips out, they still would wound up following Clones like Crosshair, Bacara, and other Clone Officers who would have remained loyal to the Empire at least at first. Chip explanation aside, Clones underwent a heavy amount of conditioning that made them loyal to the Republic and the Chancellor. It's kind of a blend of The Clone Wars' bio-chips and the Old Canon explanation that troopers were brainwashed to the point of following the order. The Clone Battalions and Units suffer heavy casualties due to how often Jedi are on the front, and this means all Units often get a high level of new replacements, *shinies,* who are easily more loyal to the Chancellor than their generals. Additionally, the Jedi were not that good of Generals and Commanders. They wouldn't have had that camaraderie or relationship built up.

    • @williamozier918
      @williamozier918 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, I always took it that most clones killed the Jedi, for the exact same reason they followed them, they were following orders. That's it. The clones en masse were never loyal to the jedi, they were loyal to Darth Sidious the WHOLE time.

      True.
      However, I still think anyone who believes Aayla and Bly had a thing going on is foolish if they also believe that it was the brainwashing that made him kill her in cold blood, and not a chip. One does not simply execute their romantic interests/kin out of orders or convictions, no matter how strong. He either loved her or he followed orders. I understand nuance, but this grey area isn't THAT grey.

      It's an interesting perspective. How many in the Wehrmacht were morally conflicted but still followed orders.
      True soldiers have duty to follow lawful orders, but it is implied that if an order be unlawful, unconstitutional and/or immoral then the soldier has a duty to refuse. Even if it means arrest/imprisonment or execution. Of course, personally if i have to go down for a righteous cause, I rather go down swinging.

      View of people is one thing, but it's important to remember that you shouldn't treat all opinions and positions as equally valid. Anti-trans people should not be taken as seriously as pro-trans people or trans people themselves. You can work to understand why they have a certain opinion, but you should never forget that their opinions can be bad or, God forbid, actually wrong.

      @@DarthTingleBinks The problem is, when you go into a conversation with someone with the idea that their opinion isnt valid, it doesnt matter what their views actually are since you effectively shut down the conversation before it began. • @DarthTingleBinks
      @DarthTingleBinks ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@aidanquiett668 For me, it's the opposite. I do go into it knowing they're wrong (because they are), but I don't care about that. I try to either show them they're wrong, or get to the bottom of why they think the way they do so I can easier address the issue at hand. If I can, then great. If I can't, then at least I tried. Either way, I feel bad for them because unless they have literally zero IQ, they were taught these opinions by trusted adult figures, be it parents, teachers, or pastors. If I hate anyone, it's the people who taugh them that way.
      Edit: Also, the more you hear certain arguments, the easier and faster you're able to shut them down. Once they have no arguments left, they only have three things to do: ignore what I say and avoid answering questions honestly, continuing to say the same things over and over again; listen to what I have to say, with an open mind; or just stop talking to me because they think I'm a brainwashed Devil worshipper who wants to trans their kids.

    I would like to see Crosshair join a new militant faction like Deathwatch or another group that would truly value his skills. As bad as some of those groups can be they would see his worth as a soldier and as compatriot and he would find a place where he would be respected and welcomed despite his past.

  • @larkmacgregor3143
    @larkmacgregor3143 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I was always skeptical that Crosshair's chip had been removed. After all, Tarkin asked Nala Se to strengthen its programing, and she did. So why would they have allowed him to have it removed? Maybe they just told him they'd removed it, rather than telling him the truth. That blast to the face may have caused sufficient damage to render it non-functional, but that's not "removing" it. And his behavior does seem to be different after that. I think he was afraid to lose his purpose.
    He loved what he did and was one of the best in the galaxy at it. Who is he when he's not fighting, and what did the rest of his life mean if he wasn't doing what he'd been bred to do? People have had existential crises over lesser challenges to their identities. The other members of the Batch could find other purposes outside of the military to which to apply their skills. Killing, whether droids or sentient beings, is all he thinks he's good for. But I think, too, that the straw which broke the camel's back, to use that old cliche, was the abrupt turning on the clones by the Empire, and the freely expressed contempt directed at them.
    Until Ep.12, I think (except for Rampart) he was somewhat shielded from that. The other clones didn't like him, no. But he didn't consider 'regs' to be brothers, except for a few special cases, so I think the contempt was mutual there. But to not be valued at all by his commanding officer, and treated as if he wasn't human by him, followed by the abrupt disregard of all the clones who'd served so loyally and under great hardship, opened his mind to a truth he knew deep down, but was refusing to acknowledge.
    It might happen to the 'regs', but I think he was certain that it couldn't happen to him. He was dedicated. He was one of the elite. He followed orders and did his best by them. What reason would the Empire have to discard *him*? He wasn't "used equipment" - he was Crosshair, and not expendable. Nolan taught him otherwise, and now he could see that he'd been fooling himself. I don't think, when he pulled that trigger, that he expected to survive it. That if he didn't die of his injuries, he would certainly be executed for treason, but at least he'd be free. And now I fear for him. We'd just gotten him back, and now we're about to lose him again. I hope I'm wrong, but I see a fate worse than death in his future, and he doesn't deserve it.

    Funny, my lovely dad was so “orderly” he won best soldier dude (sry no idea what it was) in boot camp, then spent many yrs working his way out once he realized he was actually a peace-loving and non-fighting type person.
    Just saying being “orderly” doesn’t always equal being a good soldier…
    It’s about time Crosshair sees the truth behind his strict beliefs. I love that he’s relatable, but way past time for him to wake up. The Batch need to rescue this poor man asap.

  • @sixthjayhawk

    I think another factor is that Crosshair is a *sniper*. His enhanced skills is weapons-based. He has to be a soldier, or a bounty hunter/assassin at best. The other Bad Batch members could levy their enhanced skills to do non-military work, but Crosshair doesn’t have that option.
    Plus, I think once he removed the inhibitor chip, he had this “in for a penny, in for a pound” mindset. He saw that the Empire gave him purpose, while his squad abandoned him even though he was essentially brainwashed. That’s why he wants them to join him at the end of S1. If they do, it’ll help assuage any guilt or doubts he has about serving the Empire and validate his belief that he made the right choice.

    Also, the fact that the last clone on the planet he went to was nicknamed "Mayday" kinda relates to crosshair going against the Empire, in a way? He did his mission and ends up going down needing help, only to be captured by "enemy" forces
    I'm sure there's a better way to explain what I mean but I found it kinda... Symbolic? that his last friend on that planet was someone who's name means help

    Very good points. As a non-parent and no access to blasters or energy bows, the only reason to give a child one is to teach them to think before randomly firing. You have to concentrate on the target and commit to actually firing and possibly killing with a bow. With a blaster it is point and pull trigger and see what happens.

    I think *Omega's* bow thing simply comes down to _Disney_ not wanting to put a gun in the hands of a child. IMO that's the only reason they gave her such an impractically stupid weapon.
    As for *Crosshair,* your discussion brought these quotes immediately to mind:
    _“When you really know somebody you can't hate them. Or maybe it's just that you can't really know them until you stop hating them.”_
    _"No human being, when you understand his desires, is worthless._ _No one's life is nothing. Even the most evil of men and women, if you understand their hearts, had some generous act that redeems them,¹ at least a little, from their sins."_
    Some of my favorite quotes from a favorite book, _Speaker for the Dead._ Not a fan of the author, as I have taken issue with his view on certain things. Sadly, these came to light long after I came to love the book.
    *Bottom line:* _He's a pinhead IMO._
    ··•✺•··
    ¹ ─ Personally I would add the word _"might"_ to that last portion, i.e., _"…if you understand their hearts, had some generous act that _*_might_*_ redeem them, at least a little, from their sins."_

    Crosshair also has a very destructive and codependent skill set. He, like the rest of the clones, were trained to follow orders. As a commando he may not have been given constant commands on how to complete a mission, but finishing the mission was all that mattered. This is where having comrades such as Hunter and Tech to give him instant strategies and support became a necessity. Being a sniper makes him reliant on those fighting beside him as well. So by staying with the Empire he maintains the support and duties that he has been trained for and reliant on.
    Another possible reason might be that the Empire lied about removing his chip. While I dont know how i feel about that as a revelation, it is something that may in fact be true. Crosshair is too important an asset as the only member of force 99 to have his chip fully functional during order 66.

  • @jacobgriffin613

    I've been wondering why nobody gives omega a blaster, her bow doesn't seem to have a stun setting on it and they're fighting clones or imperial troopers quite often, obviously they don't want to cause casualties unless absolutely necessary so it might be time for omega to at least get a pistol before she has a close call and has to eliminate one of these soldiers, which certainly is gonna bring much more heat on the squad than necessary.

  • @Secretsongs20

    Millions of clones & others killed for the Republic without questioning orders, only for us to find out the war was orchestrated by the same dictator. Very realistic scenario. Crosshair is no different. I don’t think he cared that the Empire neglected clones, or even let them die. He only started to care when it affected him personally. He saw the death bird flying over his head and reacted to survive. He didn’t care about being disrespected, or let alone stranded on Kaminoa for weeks. He showed no anger then, and remained loyal because he believed in Order. He lost his temper because he realized he will be next to die not for “Order” but for mere uniforms. If instead he had been promoted and assigned to more important missions, would he have turned? I also don’t think that Crosshair is not open. He showed he cared about his brothers in Season 1 final episodes. He didn’t tell the Empire that they survived in season 2.

    Crosshair was lying (or believes it, but it's false) when he said he had his chip removed. I don't get why everybody takes him at his word. The first episode has the Kaminoans, with Tarkin standing right there, analyzing it and "strengthening" it's hold over him.

    One thing I think you missed in Crosshair is he also had a strong sense of superiority VS the regular clones and saw the Empire's disdain of them as a reflection of his own position. Surely within the Empire he could be valued for his elite skills and rise above those filthy Regs. The Empire had to grind that attitude out of him for him to be ready to make friends with Mayday.

    When your base set of ideals is revealed as a con. Your either become rabid towards doubling down, or you become disillusioned and have a crash. You can only rebuild your ideals and code, after you’ve had the crash. So those who double down fall twice as hard when reality hits them.

    In the first season, we see them increase the power of the chip in his head only for him to claim it's been removed at the end of the season. It could be that he was lied to about it being removed. We also have the true believer assassin clone that tried to kill the senator. Fairly sure they mentioned he was fiercely loyal to the empire yet lacked a control chip. Could this be some indication that they found a way to force loyalty without chips after what they did with crosshair? They seem to drop that line pretty quickly, so it might come back later. Or we could be seeing the development of the mindflayer.
