A beautifully carved mancave. I can smell the interior from here 😎 same reason i love my b5 s4. Wouldn't trade it for anything out there now. Classic elegance, straight forward logical designs and easy on the eyes. Beautiful.
It's amazing how much the real world cost of the S-class has decreased in 30 years. Who could afford it back then?! $87,500 in 1995 is like paying $180,500 dollars in 2024 according to the inflation calculator. A new S-class today days starts at only $117,250.
@@a.person7825 exactly had a CLS400 it was junk ..interior piece falling off at 12000 miles, got rid of it at 3 months old...crap transmission and not great gas mileage...
you could have the safest car of the world, and your own bodyguard. It won't't protect you from crazy driving, as both the W140 and Diana Spencer are cases in point.
Lady Di case was very sad and the W140 S280 she died in had been totaled before and written off by the insurance then somehow got repaired anyway and sold to the VIP car service. The safety physics of that fixed up wrack was certainly not in compliance with the W140 safety as well as not wearing seat belts contributed to the tragical outcome. …
The last great Benz, everything after this was and is trash, but even with this 1995 refresh it was a dinosaur. People can say what they want, but by this point in time the Lexus LS400 was really eating into S-Class sales numbers and MB was on notice.
Back in that time, 8 seconds to 60 was a good performer, but a step behind the leaders The redesigned Lexus LS400 was moving at about that rate, with better MPG, due to a smaller engine, and being much lighter The Infiniti Q45 in the low-7s, 0-60.
Mercedes today should look at this video and be ashamed of them self's on the garbage they been selling since year 2000 to now..ya they look all right but the build quality is complete💩 and regarding the design they look more Japanese than German they will have that opulence anymore as well
I can’t believe it’s nearly 30 years old. It drives better than most new cars today.
Times when cars were cars, not iPads over wheels 😢
That's perfect 💯 this comment needs pinned
Will only get worse with compulsory EV madness
Well said🙏👍
This particular one wasn't just a car, it was a vault on wheels! 😎

I had a 1993 S500.
Loved that car.
Super comfortable to drive and there was a button to push for everything. Even one to open the glove box.

It’s because today’s S Class is junk.
Because you are comparing a top of the line model with a base model.

At 1:55 he states engines range from a 2.3 liter inline six to a 6 liter V12, must have meant 3.2 liter six
I love the W140
Same. It's a real luxury cruiser. Nothing can compare. Lexus is nice but it's not in the same league (in my opinion) as the Mercedes Benz brand.
S600 🔥
The W140 was the best car I’ve ever owned, it is one of the only cars I wish I never sold
@1:57 That 2.3 I6 probably wouldn't even be able to get this vault on wheels up and going! 😅
Mixed up the order of the digits haha
@@AK47StalinThought so! 😜😂🤣
This lamb plugged $87,500 in 1995 dollars into an inflation calculator and got $179,547.94 in 2024 dollars.
This lamb notes that’s crazy expensive.
Grateful to have owned one. It felt like driving a car sculpted from granite.
Airdate: May 13, 1995.
loved that s class, the new ones are nothing but a PC with a engine...smh
To me these are the last Presidential looking Benzes.
Early 92 more brick like and more presence. The facelift 95 is still a beast though!

The last proper Mercedes after 1994 they merged with Chrysler and started building more toys into cars than machines

Back when these cost as much as a typical American home.
3:35. that's were it all went belly up. Cup holders!?! Driving and drinking don't combine. 😅
❤
50 cent!!
The car that princess diana lost her life💔
She was killed in a S280 fixed up from a previous crash ..
S420 had decent performance without the complexity of the S500 suspension.
this was a beautiful machine inside and out, todays MBs are just crap, and look like a low rent economy car...
Over-stretched W124.
As far as beauty goes, no comparison to W126. And that is more important than self-closing doors.
