Nobody in this scene had to act because the characters and actors were driven by the exact same circumstances and emotions. This can only happen when a long-time cast member leaves a show.
The thing is, the office doesn’t just feel like a classic show. It feels like a lifestyle. The classic sitcom “laughs” aren’t there, making it truly arbitrary, as Creed would say. It doesn’t just feel like a show, It feels like as if each character is real. Jim’s love for Pam, Dwight’s infatuation with becoming manager, Michael’s desperate attempt to find and be loved. These little quirks that built the characters, they exist within ourselves. It gives us something to look for in life. That no matter how many obstacles come your way, whether it’s another 364 days till pretzel day, a co-worker firing a gun in the office, or being in love with someone who doesn’t see you the same way, you know that it gets better because you are going to get hitched at Niagara Falls, and that’s what makes The Office unique. Being just a show, its part of us. Its who we are. Its inside us. And that’s what she said.
The most legitimately sweet part of this song is when Ryan sings "you helped me get off drugs." For how awkward their relationship is throughout the show, it's nice to see him show Michael genuine appreciation.

I like to think they were all saying thank you in a real way. Showing Steve what he did for them. What they did for him. They all made this amazing show together, but SC made it one of the best. I think they all knew it and acknowledged it. 🤟🏻
Ed Helms almost cried and then rallied like a pro to start the song. nine million nine hundred and eighty six minutes, It's like watching Threat Level Midnight one time.

I absolutely love Will Farrell I do, but I have to agree with everyone, he does kill the mood here, and what sucks is, this was unscripted and a goodbye from the cast to Steve Carrell, so they couldn’t do a reshoot, BJ Novak face says it all.
I agree. I don't know if it was planned for him to start singing here (I mean I can't imagine Will Farell intentionally ruining a moment meant for Steve carell), but they should've just kept him quiet. He really wasn't a part of it, and right at the moment where you start getting tears in your eyes, he comes in and kinda spoils it.
Inconsistencies that prove it was a surprise 0:32 Angela and Oscar uncontrollably smiling 1:02 Stanley Smiling 1:12 Angela holding back laughter 1:17 Stanley laughs at Creed's line 1:48 Creed is talking to Angela until he realizes the camera is directing towards him, so he gets back into character
I had read that myself, that's why I'm here really, but when I search for it, I can't see that anyone talked about it after the episode. I'm afraid this would have been well documented in interviews after the episode if it had been true :/
As my first time watching this show fully, this bring tears to me, in the 7 seasons that Steve was there, you never knew how much he was a part of the show, even surprisingly Toby, Angela, and Stanly sang smiling, this show will always live in my heart, i would kill to see another season of the show, im just at the last part of Micheal’s era of season 7, I’m crying just by writing this, 1:25 is where it gets me, Steve’s face is genuinely heart breaking, only if Dwight was here, just like Steve Carell said, “This is gonna hurt like a mother[---]”
Everyone is saying how cringe De Angelo’s part was, and how he shouldn’t be in it, but I’m pretty sure that was the point of his character. A worse version of Michael. Someone who really doesn’t belong lmao
I agree, and I think I would've been more okay with it, if it wasn't used in this scene. It's just kind of misplaced humor for a serious and touching scene.
i agree with you but i still wish they would of put rainn in this scene instead of will. i feel like they were trying to making the scene funnier when they should of put rainn in to make it more emotional
I feel like it was part of the song when he did that as a part of his character since he is supposed to be annoying. I also think that since the piano wasn’t abruptly stopped or lost rhythm, instead transitioned into De Angelo’s part, it was in the song purposely.
That’s what makes me cry so hard, its not michael saying goodbye, its steve Carell saying goodbye to 7 yearlong friends. It’s a song from friends to friends. FREAKING TOBY SINGS IN IT! That shows that its a song from the cast and crew, not from his workers
@@wheatley5073 “In the episode where we all sang to Steve the goodbye song, we all rehearsed that without him for a couple of days, and so the first time he heard it was when we sang it to him on camera, so his emotions there were real,” Jenna Fischer (who plays Pam Beesly Halpert) confessed in a recent interview with EW.
I personally think when the Michael takes his mic off for the last time and he walks off then Pam runs up and hugs him, that genuinely made me tear up and I never tear up at tv/film. Proper emotional, the bastards got me with that one 😂

That is so true I remember watching when he was gone and it was not the same I was tempted not to watch it but I kept on going and then finally last episode he showed up and man I wish he spoke more cause I really missed him
I just watched the Office for the first time, and watched this episode yesterday. I was devastated when he left, he is my favorite character, and now I’m on Season 8. It just isn’t ten same at all. It’s harder to watch without him. Goodbye, Michael. 😢
I actually stopped watching as soon as Michael left. I refuse to watch the episodes without him (because The Office isn’t The Office without Michael). After i watched Goodbye Michael, i just went straight back to the Pilot episode and watch the show all over again until that episode. Because of that, I’ve never watched a single episode (with the exception of the Finale) that took place after Michael left.
@@bxviner6726 Yeah, I finished off The Office today and the last 10 or so episodes were amazing There's just a certain x factor that they finally got back

The genuine confusion on Steves face when Darryl started playing is proof it was not scripted. Plus oscars face when Andy started looked like he was so proud of what was about to happen.
Here's a hidden detail for those who like that kind of stuff, when they're singing the "Remember to call" part before Will Farrell starts singing, Angela looks at Phyllis and reaches out for her hand, so Angela isn't as bitter as she is as Angela Martin, Here's another one I think it's personally super funny, when Creed sings "I watch you when you sleep" Look at who's around him, Leslie David Baker and Phyllis smile and Jenna tilts her head slightly

Wheres the fun fact source for this info?
Vince Choi, “The Office” Wikipedia
It was plain to see that this beautiful man was overwhelmed and crying real tears. I can see a producer keeping it from him so his reaction was real......but I think he would have cried, even if he knew. Love him.
Wow
I like to think they were all saying thank you in a real way. Showing Steve what he did for them. What they did for him. They all made this amazing show together, but SC made it one of the best. I think they all knew it and acknowledged it. 🤟🏻
Ed Helms almost cried and then rallied like a pro to start the song.

It was scripted, Steve just didn't know about it. They all had to memorise the song and stuff, so I'm fairly sure Will was told to do that.
What?! Will kills it! Dude actually has a great comedic singing voice . Eurovision .
it was scripted, daryl stops playing so he can sing his part.

aKolkaa guess what I just found out Steve Carrall had no idea this was coming so he's cry and his "something's happening" were real.
RuuunnMarkrUunN Ruuun wait really?? Where did you find that out?
I had read that myself, that's why I'm here really, but when I search for it, I can't see that anyone talked about it after the episode. I'm afraid this would have been well documented in interviews after the episode if it had been true :/
aKolkaa i rewatched the series for the 17th time and it still gets me.
Seabo they meant that he didn't know that the somg, was coming
As my first time watching this show fully, this bring tears to me, in the 7 seasons that Steve was there, you never knew how much he was a part of the show, even surprisingly Toby, Angela, and Stanly sang smiling, this show will always live in my heart, i would kill to see another season of the show, im just at the last part of Micheal’s era of season 7, I’m crying just by writing this, 1:25 is where it gets me, Steve’s face is genuinely heart breaking, only if Dwight was here, just like Steve Carell said, “This is gonna hurt like a mother[---]”
Agreed
Everyone is saying how cringe De Angelo’s part was, and how he shouldn’t be in it, but I’m pretty sure that was the point of his character. A worse version of Michael. Someone who really doesn’t belong lmao
I agree, and I think I would've been more okay with it, if it wasn't used in this scene. It's just kind of misplaced humor for a serious and touching scene.
I really don’t understand all the hate he gets.
i agree with you but i still wish they would of put rainn in this scene instead of will. i feel like they were trying to making the scene funnier when they should of put rainn in to make it more emotional
@@prisonmike6871 I heard Rainn couldn't film that day, I'm not sure if it's true
I feel like it was part of the song when he did that as a part of his character since he is supposed to be annoying. I also think that since the piano wasn’t abruptly stopped or lost rhythm, instead transitioned into De Angelo’s part, it was in the song purposely.
Pause this at 1:27. That's not Michael Scott. That's Steve Carell saying goodbye. So poignant.
That’s what makes me cry so hard, its not michael saying goodbye, its steve Carell saying goodbye to 7 yearlong friends. It’s a song from friends to friends. FREAKING TOBY SINGS IN IT! That shows that its a song from the cast and crew, not from his workers

Why aren't more people talking about the fact that Michael helped Ryan get off drugs 😞
He also tried to help Meredith with her drinking too, Michael Scott, although was at times cringey, ignorant at times, he meant well and had a big heart, he’s saved a lot them their jobs, gave multiple chances on people when he shouldn’t of, he really was the best boss.
Because there's nothing funny about it.
It's just a distraction from the fact that Ryan started the fire
You don't realize how much you miss Michael till he's gone. :(
That is so true I remember watching when he was gone and it was not the same I was tempted not to watch it but I kept on going and then finally last episode he showed up and man I wish he spoke more cause I really missed him
I just watched the Office for the first time, and watched this episode yesterday.

I get you're reasoning but some of the Post-Michael episodes are worth watching. One of my favorite episodes ever is Garden Party. I die every time.

Kind of amazing that Steve didn't crack up even though he wasn't prepared for "I watch you when you sleep"
