    I would love to know what was in your travel library contents. This tag is fascinating, learned so much about you.

      Seconding this - I'd be really interested in a video where you tell us about the books you took travelling with you

      Me too - I've been a lurker here for some time. And I'm coming out of hiding to ask for that!

      And do you still have any of the original copies that escaped wildlife, storms etc.!

      He’s made it clear in other older videos that his travelling library was exclusively Ancient Greece and Rome classics. One book for sure that he had was Ovid’s Metamorphosis. Not sure about the others, though. You may need to check out his Daily Penguin series to figure out they were.

    Steve can you list the 9-10 books you traveled with? And have they changed since then?

    I love that I know all of the well stocked bookstores you mentioned! In fact I should be making a trek to The Book Barn shortly.

    A colleague came multiple times over in very short time period but between visits I had reorganized my books. The second time she was looking so intensely at the books that I asked what she was doing, she responded with "I'm trying to discover how you organise your books. It's changed but I still don't know exactly how you do it." She wanted to find it out for herself. Which was lovely. And I think it sorta answers what kind of impression people have of my bookcases.

    ‘The Brattle’ … I am beyond happy to have found you/your channel. I moved away from Boston long ago, but used to sell hundreds of books to Brattle in the 90’s/maybe early 2000’s. So many, that a friend once bought a book and called me to say there was a - gulp - canceled check of mine in the volume he’d purchased at The Brattle. What was the name of the proprietor? He was amazing. Would come to my home in Brookline or a storage bin in Somerville with shallow boxes to cart my books away. I now live in the Mid Atlantic where I’ve yet to find good indies unless I cart myself to DC or Baltimore - but still none anywhere nearly as wonderful as Brookline Booksmith or Harvard Bookstore. I am starting, at 64, to think about the fate of my approx 3000 volumes. My younger friend is no longer *younger*. I should have chosen someone more than ten years my junior, eh?
    Freida is a lucky pup - my Sage is now 17 years old, a beagle sheltie rescue, who sadly had to start arthritis meds yesterday.
    Thank you so much for this video. New follow for sure.

    Great tag questions. I will put it in my schedule. My question to you is that I don’t think you ever mention sleep. When do you sleep and do you get a full 8 hours of sleep? 😊💙

    I have approximately 1500. I did a big purge recently which I regret! It was necessary to get books off the floor (I often buy and purge a book several times 😉). People come into my home and say wow have you read these? 🤣🤣 I’m constantly moving my books around - for prolonged periods a couple of times a week. Usually a Sunday puttering thing. Love your tag. Thanks for sharing!

    I buy books new and used several times a year then pick up one or two in between. So to average it out maybe 3 books a week if that. I use my library as well as kindle unlimited as much as possible. Usually the books 📚 I but are ones that I am unable to get through the library or kindle unlimited.

  • @StephanieJCohen
    @StephanieJCohen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have several hundred books in our house. I am pretty good about no longer buying physical books. However, I have a Kindle. I will not pay full price for those books for the most part. However, given Kindle deals, I buy a lot (for me). Probably around 5 to 10 per week.

    I probably buy 2 books a week usually online. I read every night so would that make me a 6/10 book person ? I have good self-control in retail book stores - Australian book prices largely help with that 😉 As for what happens to the library - never thought about it !

    • @saintdonoghue

      But what EXPLAINS those extortionate Australian book prices???

    • @DDB168
      @DDB168 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@saintdonoghue One word - rents! High street and shopping mall rents are extortionate. You've alluded to this too and its no different down here. Cheap books can be found but you have to be quick.

    Hi Steve, on young people and lung cancer in their mid 50's, do youngsters in the States collectively smoke like never before? Here in The Netherlands it seems like educational programs have great effect on the youth: it seems like they are collectively quitting and are even judgemental on smoking and smokers.

    • @jobuckley2999
      @jobuckley2999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Young people don't smoke cigarettes in the US.

    • @saintdonoghue
      @saintdonoghue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes indeed, young people in the States smoke like never before, unfortunately. Juul, vape, cigarettes - there's a hookah set up in every popular club, every dormitory room, etc. What makes it worse than any previous generation is that - thanks to things like juuls - young people never actually need to STOP smoking ... it's a thing they can do everywhere, all the time.

    • @ferdi3437
      @ferdi3437 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@saintdonoghue I don't know what Juul is, but it's a shame young people don't care about their health anymore. I never understood why one prefers a lifestyle in hazard over a healthy lifestyle, even when you're young.

    My current ear worm is All The Fools Sailed Away, by Dio. The weirdest thing that happened to me was when a few years ago I watched a meme video about the nazis, and the nazi anthem became my earworm for several days.
