This is legitimately one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. The progressive technicality of the higher guitar parts combined with the brutality and edge of the lower parts results in something like no other. This song is truly unbelievable.
Not to mention what its talking about. Read the Holographic Universe and this song will make so much more sense. David bohms theory about the implicate order and how everything derives from it and how evolution is actually an informational structure in a higher dimension arising from the deeper order moving towards covariance or what we might call God. The secret dimensional noise are the pixels of reality where this deeper order could be theoretically proven scientifically.
I'm sad that it doesn't have the same brutality from Exoplanet, but with the amount of harmonies and sound play they have, I just cannot do anything except admire them for their new sound. The fact that they changed their sound in a whole new direction simply means they feel comfortable enough to try new things, unlike some bands who always do the same thing to keep their popularity. So koodos to The Contortionist, this stuff is unreal.
This band has always been my favorite. For the last five years. and i still haven't gotten the chance to see them live. To meet them and see them live would be one of my dreams.
Was watching music choice Metal channel in the am one morning and the song flourish came on from exoplanet so glad I found out about this band fucking amazing when heavy and fuckin utter state of mental gooseflesh when melodic
This song is actually very scientifically deep. I was quite blown away the first time I heard it. Physicists have been arguing for quite sometime, that the universe could actually be more like a holographic projection. Under string theory, the holographic universe actually seems possible. All of the horizons, entropy and microstates he talks about, actually deal with how black holes are thought to work. I could go on forever about all the shit he touches on in this song, hahah.
I don't know, what you mean by deep. The solutions of a Laplace equation in a whole domain are completely determined by its values on the boundary. How is that scientifically deep? It's trivial. Will you therefore call harmonic functions holographic? You could, but what do you win by this?
This song seeps deep into your mind and thoughts, it grabs you by the soul and takes you on an emotional journey, "there's a universe inside us all", and this amazing song allows us to explore. "Widen your peripheral", understand your universe as you observe more and more, search for your answer, its a mental transformation. Next time you listen, let this song flow through you, it feels empowering. Edit: lookin at my comment over a year and a half later 😔 time flies by.. also still listening. Jesus Christ 2 years ago.. :( Make that 6
Read the Holographic Universe David bohms theory about the implicate order and how everything derives from it and how evolution is actually an informational structure in a higher dimension arising from the deeper order moving towards covariance or what we might call God. Evolution isn't blind. Its a result of a deeper order / information structure. The secret dimensional noise are the pixels of reality where this deeper order could be theoretically proven scientifically.
Man, in my opinion, Ebb & Flow and The Parable are better than Language 1 & 2, and Intrinsic it's a good album, but Exoplanet kicks out all the possibilities of dispute, THE WHOLE ALBUM IT'S EPIC
wow, this is definitely nothing like I've ever heard before. Wasn't expecting the contortionist to go in a direction like this in the slightest, but I'm glad their sound is progressing! I'm grateful there are still musicians who aren't afraid to step out of their comfort zone.
They did back about a year and a half ago in the frak the gods tour. I had the privilege of seeing them play together in the same night, same venue, and got to meet them all :) including The human abstract and textures.
IMO, a step above Exoplanet. Intrinsic is a rare feat. I doubt we ever hear an album as good as this one from them again, and Language is DAMN good. They are all GREAT though.
I thoroughly enjoy this video, just the lyrics alone move me. It sort of forces you to expand your thinking about what direction music is taking us. I support the movement 110%.
"We wanted to open the album with something that represented the its contrast. This song has a very steady pace and focuses on the melodic theme, making it one of the tamer songs on the record. Its lyrics are the description of the apparent holographic reality that we call “experience.” Said by the vocalist himself in an interview.
First time listening to them so i don't how their other songs sound. But just from listening to this i can totally see where you're coming from. The lyrics would really go good with the Halo story and even the ambiance of the music would go hand in hand with a cut-scene.
It's called a vocoder. Some great bands like Cynic(a band that combines metal with jazz fusion elements) uses a vocoder. It's used as an vocal effect like distortion on a guitar, not really a pitch correction tool. Many people that use vocoders can actually sing the notes they're playing, but they use the effect for a more robotic/unhuman sound.
I love the new song, but what really made Exoplanet an amazing album is the mix between heavy and epicly melodic. Oscillator is the best example of this, and one of my favorite songs of all time. I am very excited for the new album, and the direction in which The Contortionist is going, but I really hope to hear more heavy and melodic balancing.
I like the way these guys have a smoothe blend and flow to their songs. They can do the mathcore thing without changing time signatures back and forth every 5 seconds just because. It's like putting too much hot peppers in your food showing everyone else that you're not a candy ass just 'cause. The hot shit goes a long way in small doses. I also dig their clean execution, and production sense. Most importantly, these guys put out some great songs. Extra fuckin' yahooz!!!
dude, I have heard the entire album intrinsic and its amazing. There is some melodic stuff like holomovement but there is also a lot of heavy stuff. Its probably 65% heavy. There are a lot of songs on the album that are at least as heavy as the stuff on exoplanet that you might be into more.
Some of the other songs on this album include the concepts, but more abstractly, like in reference to what you feel when you meditate deeply.......and the album is called Intrinsic, which has these words as synonyms...internal - inner - interior - inward - real....also....the interference among coherent wave fronts associated with particle scattering gives rise to intrinsic speckle noise.....or as they put it... secret dimensional noise :)
At first I was super disappointed when I heard this, not because it lacked breakdowns and shit like that, but because I felt it lacked the intensity that made their melodies, well, flourish (lol). But upon probably my eighth listen, I'm finally coming to recognize just how fucking beautiful this song is. So pumped for this album to drop.
Do you like Periphery? They have a song on their latest album called "Ragnarok" that just happens to be the name of a multiplayer map on Halo 4. Really great song actually
the orgasmic blend combines all of the same heavier influences of the past with an interesting between the buried and me-esque that becomes completely its own. if you dont wanna hear music that was well thought out, written slowly and not while on tour and that captures true emotions and artistic skills then go listen to fuckin for the fallen dreams or capture the crown and fuck off...this is a masterpiece....
I'm totally with you.. people, don't be lazy, look up what is "holomovement", what is the "deeper order" the vocalist sings about... know thyself, know the universe ;) (Hints: holographic universe, implicate/explicate order, wholeness, Michael Talbot, David Bohm)
If any of you are judging the album from this one song (which I admit, I did too at first till I heard the whole album) then you are in for a BIG surprise. The progession/atmospheric approach works amazingly in all the songs, and this is actually the weakest out of all the songs on the album, but that is saying a lot when I love EVERY SINGLE ONE! The album draws heavy influences from Cynic, Between the Buried and Me, and Last Chance to reason but its on a completely different level!
Actually, some songs feel even heavier then the ones on Exoplanet, including the songs where the growls only last like 45 seconds. Truly amazing how this is heavier even though they don't play as much of the heaviness like they did in Exoplanet...if you know what I mean.
***** Volumes does, though. BoO djent? Never heard Veil of Maya, nor Vildhjarta, but I agree with Periphery and Meshuggah. You proven my previous comment wrong, but not my original comment. These new "prog" bands only copy each others' styles. The ones that do post hardcore (e.g. Periphery, Tesseract; although I like these two), the ones that do metalcore (e.g. Volumes, the Contortionist) and the "wannabe's" Meshuggah (e.g. After the Burial).
***** Ambient metal? Rofl, ever heard of Pelicans? If anything is ambient metal, that would be it. But ambient metal is actually "atmospheric black metal". And yeah, ATB are Meshuggah wannabe's. You mentioned BMTH why?
I should be thanking you for replying to my comment. 1) you set me straight, I apologize for the dick move. 2) you brought me back to this fucking great song. I love you
I somehow feel the same way, that this is the sound Cynic should have tried to achieve. I do enjoy Traced in Air and all but this is way more solid in my opinion. Anyway, I'm glad The Contortionist are evolving and creating music that satisfy themselves.
I disagree. It doesn't have motion blur or bezier'd movement, but it's nice seeing something different for a change. The music is amazing, and really, that's all that matters. The lyrics, regardless of "quality," are optional. You don't need to watch it, just listen.
The clean part at the beginning of this is vaguely similar to Fear of a Blank Planet era Porcupine Tree in atmosphere at least, but overall I wouldn't compare TC to PT or much less anything else Wilson has done. TC are much more similar to Cynic with a hint of their original deathcore influence on this particular album, and since then they've kinda gone full Cynic style with a hint of post rock.
+exuptoy I can definitely hear the PT influences this band has. While considerably heavier in tonality, the contortionist definitely has that same "intensity." Progressive metal 4lyfe

Man this was godlike music. Idek who The Contortionist is anymore after this album

2024 and this still a timeless classic.
This is more than a song it's a journey.
2023 and this album is still a timeless classic.
Super underrated
It's like the whole song was leading up to such a short moment in 5:58 and it was fucking worth it...
DEEEEEPEEEER OOOOORDEEEEER
This band has always been my favorite. For the last five years. and i still haven't gotten the chance to see them live. To meet them and see them live would be one of my dreams.

Make that 6
Josh Parrick i miss Jonathan.. this is their best record right here. They were on the right path
BuyMeAKoala I agree, their fate was sealed when he left.
Read the Holographic Universe

@@Lavender_1618 off topic but, wtf 5 years ago? I can't handle this continuation of time bro 😭 I was 18 when I made that initial comment
May 24th will be my 15th time seeing you guys. It would be super rad if I heard this one again. It's been awhile.
This is, in my opinion, TC's best song, Language 1 & 2 coming in at a close second.

Jesse Hildebrand best song and best album.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
Of all time my guy. It just fits.

This is awesome. I've been listening to this over and over again for days.
4:35 this section gives me the feels of underwater stages in DK country 1 lol
I JUST BARELY CHECKED OUT THIS ALBUM, FIRST SONG I CHECKED OUT, AND RIGHT AS SOON AS IT STARTED, I FELL IN LOVE. Love the dude's cleans.
They did back about a year and a half ago in the frak the gods tour. I had the privilege of seeing them play together in the same night, same venue, and got to meet them all :)
including The human abstract and textures.
I can't wait for this...The Contortionist is on a different level.

exoplanet will forever be my favorite
Guitars can be a bit unclear during heavy parts though that's the only problem :(
Kalupz they should remaster this album
I'd buy it again.
Sciencecore
"core"
+Milton Mendoza Progience?
Science doesnt even touch base with a lot of what this album talks about. It denies it rather. Like any intangible belief for that matter
His highs got better, which I thought these guys couldn't get better, but each member grew from the last album to this single track. Incredible.
Just saw this song live yesterday, really amazing band and fun to watch lml
2012 - I will always remember this as the year I discovered The Contortionist
Libin OV and what do you think now? 5 years later :D
I discovered on 2010 and I still love them... :')
I like the clean vocals in this one. Cant wait for this release.
this is sick. this is also the definition of changing it up in a good way
This songs lyrics are like my thoughts about reality put together with the music I like. Love it!
CANNOT wait to see these guys on Friday!
yet again, you say exactly what i'm thinking too. You're fantastic

you must be the most elite music enthusiast. link me to all the amazing stuff you create!
Ahh, this song just keeps growing on me...
This video in particular IS the album artwork...in a less boring way and giving you something to watch
Pretty excited to see these guys on tour with btbam. Gonna be a good night

Man, this makes me miss Jon and Chris.
databloom70 me too man
Keep going, its one hell of a album!
Literally have been listening to this band for years and didn’t know the current vocalist isn’t this vocalist... roast me.
yeah he left a long ass time ago bro 😂
Never been so excited for an album, cant fuckin wait
Damn I can't wait for this album to be delivered to my doorstep...

I apologize, friend. Let's all just enjoy The Contortionist for what they are. Amazing music, yes? :)
anyways, glad to hear that they stayed true to the spacey-ness that i loved from exoplanet. this is the right direction for these guys.
Apparition is still their best release, hands down!!!!
Thanks for coming to medford oregon i love you
That one opening note is pure bliss.
Words cant describe how brilliant this song is!
YESSSS!!! I can't wait for July 17th :D

THIS. Finally someone understand. If anything we need more music criticism.
Awesome to hear Cynic influences in this sort of music
A friend pre-ordered the new album. Literally flawless.
I love this song!
YOU'RE THE BEST
These guys are finally getting popular :)
I really hope this is the only track thats this light. I couldnt do a whole album with these cleans.

THIS. PERFECT.
If every other song is total crap, this will still be my favorite album of the year because of this song.
love this song.
i hate when ppl make the bust a nut a comments on metal channels.... but guys this made me spit one out it, anything this awesome should be illegal
Do you like Periphery? They have a song on their latest album called "Ragnarok" that just happens to be the name of a multiplayer map on Halo 4. Really great song actually
Most anticipated release this year, amiright?
Ugh, this is amazing...

I find myself watching this video everyday, shit this is gna be good
wow they definitely changed it up haha i expected djent madness but got heavy clean vocals. awesome song

first contortionist song i heard, dont hate, read comments, all hate, listened to more, came back, this is my favorite song, great band though.
never even heard of these guys until i went to their concert last night. made a fan out of me instantly after the first song \m/
This song makes me feel like im taking a peek into another dimension
lol the feeling is mutual friend it's very consciously written and composed
Rusty Shackleford Shut up, Rusty.
especially from 4:04 on, its like wow
It helped me to
The mainstream record label industry is undeserving of this musical masterpiece!

I was talking about these guys lol. I listen to Veil of Maya regularly.

this is like Dream Theater, Uneven Structure, Falling Up's "Fangs!" album, and The Contortionist's own style all blended together!
Only just found these, brilliant! Try Porcupine Tree "The incident" for a similar feel or anything by Steve Wilson.
