1) Good dialague. (Not how much they talk, but the things they say at times can be really enjoyable.)
2) Didn't take itself too seriously (Yes they did at times but overall it was a pretty light-hearted story.

***** Be sure to use its choppy cinematic FPS as a positive for a stab at ubisoft. The deserve it for releasing Unity the way it was on all platforms. 28-20fps on consoles and less on PC is a total joke.

Hey Rerez! In all seriousness, did you catch my comment on Messenger about my requests for 2020s Positives and Negatives including Sonic Unleashed - Positives (then again, it is a good game and even closer to the foundation of the early 2010s mainline Sonic games than ‘06)

5:40 Not true. Blaze the Cat first appeared in Sonic Rush one year before sonic '06.
However, she *was* brand new to the main series in 06. It's a crying shame that she wasn't included in any more mainline games (absent from even Forces) and it's also heartbreaking that Dimps (the developers behind Rush and Rush Adventure) has gone completely missing-in-action after Sonic Generations 3DS in 2012... I really want a new Rush game for 3DS, but with the 3DS reaching the end of its lifespan in 2019, and Sega very unlikely to ever do a spinoff platformer again with their non-existent resources, my hopes have been squashed.
@@TurboPikachu Technically did Dimps made 2 more games after Generations 3DS for Sonic namely Sonic 4 Episode 2 and Sonic Lost worlds 3DS.
But basically ever since than did there only made the Dragonball Xenoverse games and with all the hype around Mania do I not see Dimps and there Rush or Advance formula returning to Sonic anytime soon.

Maybe he should do a Positives episode on Sonic Unleashed HD, looking back at it, so we can see if he regrets bashing it as if it had little redeemable qualities at most.
Then again, not all the video games Rerez did “Positives” on, he disliked, and he didn’t like all of the video games he made “Positives” episodes on either.
Back then, a lot of people liked to bash on games like Unleashed and Black Knight. It wouldn't be till later on when those games would go on to become fan favorites.

Blaze wasn't a new character. She first appeared in Sonic Rush in the Ds
But she was designed for what became '06. Rush just came out first.
Then history repeated itself with Sonic Boom, but in that one Sonic Team wasn't involved so it's an exception.

I don't know about you, but I loved Unleashed! Also for me, the broken gems were the best part for 06
That's why Sonic 06 is one of my guilty pleasures I love using the broken gems to break/sequence break stages and pulling off the game breaking glitches.
How can you just say Sonic Unleashed was straight out awful? The day time stages were amazing, and the night time stages were... okay, not awful by any means, but they were solid beat-em-up stage a-la God of War. Sonic has been known for adding different game-play style post Sonic Adventure, they want to add some spice to the game-play.
Exactly. I think it was good, it's graphics were unbelievably good. The hedgehog engine was defiantly cool and is even superior to generation's graphics. And it had a wonderful story and music to match. Like I said before, just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad in any way.
I would put the multiple characters as a negative. None of them are well done or polished or even fun. They are less fun than just sonics gameplay
but at least there's variety

Personally I'm pretty much just as baffled that many people hate it as they probably are that I like it!
Yeah it's buggy but that's because it was rushed out (which is why Yuji Naka left, AFAIK). But bugs aside I find it to be a really awesome game. The boss fights are a bit clunky and Shadow's vehicles are a bit tacky, but so much in this game is captivating and fun and it looks and sounds brilliant. The controls are OK, passable if you get over the glitches.
I thought the Silver stages are also excellent with a compelling new gameplay mechanic.
I actually consider it my second favourite Sonic game ever after SA2.
So, yeah, that's my opinion :)
+Mike Vass (Hoppimike) Like I said if they had taken time to fix the bugs and work a bit more on the controls, and fix the loading screens it would of been a good game. The stages are very pretty, the characters are cool on most part, the graphics are decent, and like Rerez said the music is awesome. Honestly I would buy the game if they remade it for the ps4 but fixed the major issues. I may sound stupid but I mean it.

I mean, come on, there is nothing that can go wrong! Glitches fixed, gameplay fixed (it was actually good gameplay but really broken, just fix that and make the loopings, wallruns and such, make all of it work properly!) and the story was actually pretty good for a Sonic game. The universe that was presented in the game was great for me. And this is coming from someone who played the Classics first.
And then Sonic boom... hey you should do sonic boom on Positives...

***** Unleashed was considered bad? I honestly really liked it, it felt like the speed sections flowed well enough and the melee combat sections provided a nice change of pace. I'd say Unleashed and Heros are my two favorites so far.

Unleashed wasn't that bad (Hell, I personally find it to be my 2nd favorite in the series) and Black Knight was decent, at least in my opinion.

Sonic unleashed was NOT A Terrible GAME! IT WAS A GOOD GAME! And an underrated one at that.(Though i prefer the 360 & PS3 version over the mediocore PS2 & Wii version.) And Black Knight was okay it wasn't too bad nor really good just okay.

ps3shark1 Sonic Unleashed is better than Colors and Generations. Sonic Unleashed's daytime stages weren't as linear as Colors and Generations. For those games Sega played it safe. Stages like Jungle Joyride, Rooftop Run, Windmill isle, and Cool edge are really great stages. The writing in Colors and Generations is terrible. You can tell that those writers don't know a thing about Sonic. Generations also has little to no story and Unleashed has a decent story. Tbe Werehog stages also aren't as bad as everyone says. And who can for get the fight with the Egg Dragoon, or Dark Gaia. The soundtrack is also the most memorable in the series. The Time Eater fight was also really bad (not the 3DS version). This is just my opinion though.
@@You-yw9qp I was excited for Generations, because after enjoying Unleashed I was aware they more or less used the same system for the 3D stages in the former. I was massively disappointed in Generations. The challenge and level design from Unleashed had been dumbed down noticeably. As you said, the stages are incredibly linear now and it lacks that same euphoria. The 2D stages were whatever to me, I didn't see what the big hype was about there, and they did not really feel like the genesis titles they were attempting to emulate.
The night time stages were weaker, that is true, but they weren't horrid. The main issue with them is that they are too long. Otherwise, they're an decent diversion from the daytime stages. I also really like the werehog design.
I did a list counting 7 positive moments from this game. Trust me when I say, it is hard coming up with more than four, so I kind of don't blame people for only coming up with 2 legit things. At least you managed to have a third reason to like this game, so that's pretty good. It is a bad game that did have good potential, and unfortunately a lot of it is wasted. :(
Sonic Unleashed was amazing! The levels and gameplay was diverse for once, and it probably has the best soundtrack in the series. Sonic Lost World on the other hand, is bland and unplayable. I guess people don't like Unleashed because of the Were-hog, but I thought it was fun and added a good different pace to the game.
I just want to thank you for using Sonic's friends as a positive in this game. It seems like people like the Idiot Gaming Nazis are on this crusade to kill off every character except Sonic. I feel future Sonic games should at least attempt to incorporate the other characters into future games. Although, I don't think Colors is the almighty gift from God that everybody makes it out to be.
What about Sonic Colors on the DS? I personally thought the Wii version was worse than the DS version, especially with control.
Actually, Blaze was introduced in Sonic Rush, which came out in 2005.

I kind of understand the fact that unleashed had the long and boring werehog gameplay, but the day sections really showed what a Sonic game needs: SPEED. And the music, story, and some of the characters were awesome. I respect your opinion, and I admit it had its problems. But still, Sonic Unleashed is one of my favourite Sonic games ever, right after Colors and Generations.

+roberto alonso We didn't need even MORE speed. We already had plenty of that. The daytime stages were the actual problem. It's pretty much an extreme version of Simon Says or a railroad simulator in which you are stuck following precise instructions in very narrow, restrictive pathways you're not allowed to deviate from or experiment with. The gameplay is restrictive and shallow. There's a huge lack of platform-jumping, physics, and exploration in these stages, replaced with narrow passageways, strict level design, and quick-time events.

Well, I can't argue with you, I kind of agree with what you said, but the boost addition in a 3D Sonic game is actually cool, and also all the movements.

Someone finally points out the positives. Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 in my opinion is not one of the worst games ever made. I think it's bad, but I've played worse. It's nice to see someone saying something good about it.
Shadow's characterization was pretty faithful and constructive in this game, especially when you consider how Shadow the Game completely shat on his personality.

Yes, Sonic '06 had lots of different playable characters, but that is also a reason why the game wound up so bad to begin with. In addition to the three main characters, the devs had to focus on making playstyles for Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, Omega, Amy, and Blaze. In addition, they needed to program Sonic on a snowboard, and Shadow in a tank, handglider, and hover thingy as well as Super Sonic, Shadow, and Silver, and that just ate at precious development time for the main trio for the sake of many characters that you barely get to play as. Cutting all the extra fat might not have fixed all the problems, but it might have allowed them to at least finish things that they started, like Sonic's energy bar. Finishing that may actually make the game worse, but at least it would function.
Sonic 06 - is most infamously overhyped game ever made. It is not that bad.
TV shows have "jumping the shark", and movies have "nuking the fridge". Well, Sonic '06 gave me an idea for a similar term for video game franchises: riding the whale.
The glitches are half positive, and half negative, because some glitches actually make the game fun to mess around with, like going the wrong way in mach speed sections.
And this is NOT the lowest spot the franchise was in, Sonic Boom is, and Sonic Unleashed isn't terrible.
Holy freaking Chaos, that accordion song was an accordion rendition of Elise's theme song! And not only that, but it's far better than what her usual theme song is, at least in my opinion, but then again, I'm a huge fan of instrumental stuff, so that's a given.
I'm glad someone at least tried to look at the positives in this. I had never heard of your series before, but this makes me wanna watch more. It's good to see a gamer out there who's reasonable yet still looks for the good in games, everyone is so focused on the negative that it gets so tiring to hear the same old thing over and over again. This is a breath of fresh air, so thank you. ^^
I can't say I entirely agree with your last point. Yes Sonic Team is scared, but scared straight isn't the word I would use. They've been scared so badly that if anything, they've become too afraid of taking risks. Sure, some of the gimmicks of the new games work, but you notice, you only play as Sonic now, the level designs are pretty similar in all the new titles, and while they're still experimenting, they've never been brave enough to take on a huge project like Sonic 06 was supposed to be again in fear of it going wrong. They're still not entirely on track, but as the fans, I say we can get them there.
5.the level ideas are some of the best in the franchise. City in flames, underwater base, and ancient castle are ideas that had potential.
6. Mephiles was a cool villain. He didn't just kill of the good guys, he gave them a chance to join him.
7 the best use of chaos control ever, slowing time to kick silver.

That last positive was pretty clever. Mind you, Sonic Chronicles is an abominable RPG that showed that teams outside of SEGA can make bad Sonic games, but still, that's one way to find a positive.

There are more positives with this game than you mentioned, but I do agree this game by itself is sort of mediocre on your first playthrough.

I think you just play the classic games and have never touched Unleashed or Black Knight. I think you like a more childish, simplistic direction for Sonic, and that's totally fine. I just hate it when video reviewers only look at critics opinions before giving their own. Because it's insanely obvious, based on how you worded each game in a sentence or less.

Missed the most important positive. Sonic kisses Princess Elise, thus rendering all hedgehog-human interpecies relationships canon! This must have had a seismic effect in the Sonic slashfic community...
Sonic '06 wasn't that bad, aside from the enraging glitches. I liked the story, but mostly the mephiles battles. His character was so badass, manipulative, and efficient. He was mostly unknown to the cast even though Iblis was so apparent. It was a really nice villain for shadow's sequence.

I think the game was just rushed too much. It is a disappointment that they won't make another game like this, one with a heavy storyline, all because they fucked up this one.

I love the style of gameplay, and am very happy we finally got a 3D Metroid game that isn't an FPS... but because of the bad criticism surrounding the game's story, dialogue, and portrayal of Samus' character, we might not ever get another 3D non-FPS Metroid game.

Sonic Unleashed was amazing, and much higher Rates that you give credit for in this video... Point 3 Sounds like a Negative... Sonics Game play style, which is flawed, not because of glitches but Gameplay Desigen choices, is still the best part of the game, playing the other 13 less fun and more poorly designed gameplay styles of the other characters just made the game worse.

Ironically, it's my favorite Sonic game despite being plagued by massive glitches and terrible gameplay.
Can you do positives of Sonic Boom (rise of lyric) because I couldn't find any redeeming aspects of that game.

Story was horrible, comedy is not funny it's annoying, the stages looked terrible, stage design was horrible (both the fast and the slow ones), music sucked, art direction sucked mainly because every single thing in the game was extremely bland and it looked like all the life was sucked out of it, and the animation was ok but it was not even close to eye-candy. Just face the facts, Sonic Boom Rise of Lyrics was a horrible game. It's fails as a Sonic game and it fails as a video game in general. So probably the only positive about that piece of shit game is that there's a glitch which allows you to skip most of that horrible game (which is patched now, damn you Sega).
***** Lot's of people say Skyward sword is an awesome game and there's really not much people who say the Wii sucks. Sonic Boom 100% deserves the hate it gets because it's a horrible game. Also we have perfectly legit reasons to hate on this game. The game has some glitches but we hate this game because it's dull and boring. Those hub worlds have nothing in them and the puzzles are so repetitive and they offer no form of challenge what so ever. Also Unleashed was never torn to shreds in fact lots of people defend that game and guess what, people defend Mario sunshine and skyward sword and the wii-u because they agree that it doesn't deserve to get hated on but guess what, barley anyone is defending Sonic Boom because they know that it is a shitty game that 100% deserves all of its hate. As far as spinoffs go, games like Mario kart are a different genre than regular Mario games but they're supposed to be. You know what else is also a spinoff? Sonic and Sega all stars racing. It was obvious that was a spinoff because it's a racing game and Sonic's in a car. With Sonic Boom. With all those trailers, if no one told me it was a spinoff then I wouldn't be able to figure it out until I played it and found out that it sucked.
Also you like the most annoying dialogue in video game history? I've actually never played a video game where I had to yell at the TV for the characters to shut up. They never shut up. Also the dialogue during cutscenes is horrible. Was it supposed to be about friendship and working together because that theme is not present anywhere in the game. You mean that very small dialogue at the very beginning of the game when Sonic says "I don't need friends" and then he finds out that he does. Is this game trying to have a bad theme or does it just not know what it wants to be. I know the answer, it has no idea what it wants to be. We have the slow and boring sections of the game and the fast sections where your fps drops and you smash head first into a wall. Is it a Sonic game or some horrible beatem up type game with horrible combat.
If a game is different and unpolished, no one gives a shit if it's different just as long as it's good which it's not. There's even a debate on whether a bad game is worse than a boring game however if you look at Sonic Boom it's both bad and boring which is the worst type of game.
I also find it so funny how you describe those characters because you just made those personalities up. Here's how they really are:
Tails: Brains
Knuckles: Strongman
Amy: Female
Sonic: 2kool4skool
That dialogue is not deep in the slightest and it doesn't match your descriptions of the characters at all. The dialogue is terrible, the story is terrible and the characters are all uninspired. The story feels like a bad fanfic. I mean remember that scene at the beginning where Sonic is being blasted into a hole and then covered in a bunch of rocks? When they actually show that scene close to the end, guess what happens. 30 seconds later and Sonic's all like "hey I'm fine and we're such good friends and kids are so stupid so we can't have a story with any meaning or depth to it yay". Also Sonic is so god damn slow which I wouldn't have a problem with if only the hub worlds weren't so large and so empty to the point where there's absolutely nothing interesting to see so all you're doing is trying to get from point A to point B while being bored as fuck. That's what the game is, bad and boring.
All the things that you said are good about Sonic Boom are just things that only you find good about Sonic Boom. The majority of people would say the dialogue sucks, the story sucks, the levels suck, the characters suck, and basically everything about this game. You have these long descriptions of these things that you like but the reason you need these long descriptions is because if you say "I like the level design" everyone would be like "the level design is horrible, what on earth could you like about that horrible level design?" and of course you then need a long description of why you like the level design but that's just it, it's just you. It's only your opinion but what's next? Well you need a reason as to why the majority of people are hating on this game so.........let's just call them idiots and say that they'll hate anything that has Sonic on it even though that's a complete lie because almost everyone loves Sonic Colors and Generations and there were mixed reviews for lost world because that's what it deserved and there were negative reviews for Sonic Boom BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT FUCKING DESERVED!!!!!
Are you going to say we're all fucked in the head and that's why we're hating on this game and that this game is not as bad as we're saying because one guy got a computer and a keyboard and started typing a really long comment in order to express his stupid opinion and he expects people to accept his opinion? Well I got news for you, that's not how it works. You cannot say that everyone will hate on Sonic Boom just because it's Sonic. If Sonic was in Ride to Hell you would be defending that game, if Sonic was in Big Rigs you would be defending that game, if Sonic was in superman 64 you would also be defending that game. You claim that I'm saying it's fact that Sonic Boom is bad but not only are you claiming that it's fact that Sonic Boom isn't bad, you're also claiming that the people who are hating on Sonic Boom are idiots when they're really not. The truth is stating your opinion like it's fact is not fact. It's not fact that Sonic Boom isn't a bad game, it's not fact that all the haters are stupid, and it's not fact that what you said is true. You're still worse because you think that just because you're the minority, the minority are all the smart ones and the majority are all the stupid ones. The reason why you're stupid is because I've seen people like you before. Their opinions disagree with the majority's opinion but they try to make up excuses as to why their opinion disagrees with the majority. I've seen one person who said the reason why Sonic Boom keeps getting low ratings was because it was a Wii-U exclusive. So you're not the first and you won't be the last but you people will eventually realize that you cannot keep making up these excuses and just accept that your opinion is different from the majorities opinion. Speaking of low points in a great franchise, here's one for ya I'd love to see tackled for Positives: Metroid Other M
Now granted there's a lot of changes which were seen as a poor decision, but given what I've been exposed to there's a lot of really awesome and cool concepts beyond all that. As it is, one thing that has reaped success in the past for Metriod games is taking huge risks with the game and it certainly payed off. Just look at Metroid Prime. As an avid Metroid collector and aficionado, I would love to see this covered. It's a shame to hear such negativity directed towards this game as there's so many good things hidden amongst these many changes. Hope to see more Positives, really becoming one of my new favourite series :)

SEGA didn't have a choice. They were rushed by us fans, but primarily SONY, because SONY had something coming out at the time, and they thought SEGA was interfering with their time, thereby setting a deadline. If they didn't reach their designated deadline for the game, then...that would've been it for SEGA: No more games.

Sonic Unleashed was not a terrible game. I will defend that game to the death, also Blaze wasn't a new character in sonic 06, she first appeared in Sonic Rush in 2005, also in Sonic 06 sonic is the most fun to play as (to me). He goes faster than any other character and since the gems weren't programmed right for sonic you can just boost or jump infinitely across the stage. (Sonic 06 still sucked). Good video anyways.

Honestly, I loved Sonic Unleashed and the voice actor for sonic. It was my very first Ps3 game and my very first sonic game. So I really don't understand all the hate for the game.

I never had a problem with this game it's one of my favorite sonic games. Sonic heroes is my top favorite.
2 good things came out of Sonic '06:
1-the music especially 'His World' which later became his theme song
2-Silver the Hedgehog,he has so much potential and it's sadly wasted.I would've loved to see his story after the time reset at the end of '06.

look at it this way:
-on the day stages you get to play as the fast and funny sonic and you kinda get your adrenaline up a bit
-on the night stages you can just sit back and relax, since they're already meant to be long
When it comes to Sonic Unleashed it depends what version you played. The PS3/XBOX360 versions are the ones that are known for being terrible. However, the Wii/PS2 versions were actually pretty decent, maybe even good. The thing that most people get wrong, is that they are all the same game, when they are pretty different. The controls and level design were much better in the Wii/PS2 versions.
Sonic Unleashed wasn't terrible at all. Get your facts from personal experience instead of GameSpot reviews.
