    Dearest Janis, you were never an "ugly duckling" my darling. Your beauty shone through beyond just physical, your music and poetry will never fade.............

    I used to play this album over and over again love every single song, especially At Seventeen

      Me too. My amazing friend introduced me to this album, and we listen to it together over and over and over again in the 70s. She and I went on different paths but managed to reunite at least once a year. She was gold lamé and diamonds as an exotic dancer with the unrequited life, and I became a single parent. Neither of us ended up with the dreams we had then. This album brings back so much to me now that I'm hearing it again for the first time in almost 50 years. I've always had the album but couldn't play it, because it brought so many memories back of a wonderful friend who died too young all alone at 45.

      @@maryeperry3593 OMG I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Yea my favorite song was and still is At Seventeen.. my high school yrs were happy at time and sad at other. But I too reunited after 50 yrs .. it was like we never parted. We now speak to each other daily...

      This is a wonderful album. She's so versatile and her lyrics are true.

      @@maryeperry3593 - I can relate to her song, At Seventeen. I had everything going against me; wore glasses, bad acne, scrawny runt of a teenager, constantly picked on by the older kids. But I managed to turn out not too bad, now over 70 years old. And many of those kids who picked on me passed away a long time ago. So you see, it sucked to be them!! LoL!!
      I hope YOUR LIFE is going well. Sorry for your loss of a friend at such an early age. My mom died when she was only 46 from cancer. (I was 11 years old then.)
      Lately I've stopped looking at the obituaries for the reason that too many friends are kicking the bucket at an early age. I recently learned that a lady I dated for a while in the early 90s died from a brain tumor at the age of 53 roughly in 2012. She was a beautiful lady, mostly in her spirit. Full of spunk and awe. She travelled the world though before she passed away, even up to the Arctic with her work on an exploration trip with the Canadian Natural Museum IIRC.

    Janis Ian is a poet and singer and she's second to none , she is one of the best singer songwriters , she is a legend , she's just awesome ❤

    I think that she was not promoted as well as Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Carole King, etc. but wow what a great songwriter.

      @shellecapos8574 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Joni Mitchell took a long time to have popular success, because she was an artist & poet first. She wasn’t commercial.
      Phoebe snow had short success. It’s a business, they just rotate quickly thru these artist to make their money. True artist continue their craft without being a “STAR” anymore. Tough business.

    Janis Ian is fantastic, At Seventeen just didn't speak to the women. That song made me feel emotion like it was speaking directly at me at a time in my life when there is a lot of uncertainty. Ahh High School, got to love it!

      It resonated with me as a female. But, I did not think about the guys. It was the first song that spoke of the girls who longed for things the pretty, popular ones had. Now I know boys suffered the same.

    like so many commenting here, i know every note of this album and have loved it since its release. over my life so far i have acquired three different copies of this album on original vinyl, as well as at least two cassettes (one homemade from my second vinyl, the others store bought), then two different CD releases and finally digitally stored on three different drives... and yet i find myself STILL listening to the whole thing here all night long simply because i find it on youtube. :) thank you for uploading it. and thank you, janis ian.

    I have this on vinyl, and used to put it on the player on repeat as I worked in my photo darkroom back in 1975. Sweet memories of being a 21 year old with unlimited energy and possibilities come flowing back as I listen now. Life was simple and the music of the day some of the best ever created. Thanks for providing the whole album.
