I really enjoy the waterfall photo. One of the main reasons why I watch you and not one of the other thousand TH-camrs who work in photography is because your channel feels like a glimpse into your real life and not just a social media image. I think many photographers have moments in which they feel like you did on this hike but your channel is the only one which makes me go "I'm not alone with these struggles" rather than "I must be unfit for photography because I'm not as good as the others".

Don’t worry about not getting the “shot!” I can’t speak for everyone but I really enjoy being taking along the journey with you. Due to my job I can’t be going off to great locations very often, so just being able to go with you is why I love watching your videos. I also appreciate the honesty, it’s not about getting an amazing shot, it’s about being there and experiencing it in the first place, and the camera is just an excuse to go :)

As a novice photographer I find myself often looking around and not finding anything that really catches my eye. Now it could very well be that I suck at composition hahaha but let’s not talk about that. So I can only imagine how hard it Lucy be for seasoned photographers to be inspired. I do have to say though your “backyard” is amazing. So many colors, hills, mountains, lakes. So peaceful. And you guys actually close the gates behind you. Imagine that. Well done Tom.

I like the waterfall photo. I also enjoyed the scenes of backlit grasses and steep hillsides with tiny plants clinging to the cracks in the rock as you climbed up. The green at the beginning was so lush! We don't have that here but where I grew up it was very green. So I enjoy seeing that.

I liked the shot you eventually took. I've been watching your channel for 2 or 3 years and personally think your best images are those where you go for the more abstract image, so I think it's a good thing that it seems to be the direction you are going. I haven't a fraction of your talent, but there are cliches in photography and the big landscape with a big sunset/sunrise is perhaps one of them, no matter how well conceived. With abstraction you can escape the cliche and let your imagination do the work. I think it's a great way to go creatively. Keep up the good work.

Well as long as the hike was enjoyable..... Sometimes we can't have it all. I often struggle with hiking and concentrating on photography. Completing the hike or stopping at each potential shot, getting the tripod out, finding the perfect composition waiting for the light ... especially if I have company. Dilemma dilemma ... difficult combination: Photography or hike & snapshot
That's how I often feel. Great video Thomas thanks!

Nice composition of the waterfall, loved the way the golden rays falling on the thin stream of waterfall. That way you click only the best part of the journey and you remember all the details of that shot.

On the van. Look at a 4x4 with large suspension and tires to get off road completely. With no poptop, no weight up top to swing the vehicle getting to places.
I'm still building mine out. Specifically to go to Utah and camp on the edge of Grand Canyon to shoot sunrise/sunset and also at the edge of cliffs overlooking canyons. Places you can't hike to as it's just to hot. And usually only jeeps get to go to those places.

I live in the Eastern part of the USA. We don't have the big wide expanses for landscapes. As I've matured as a photographer, I have gravitated more and more to what I call "intimate" landscapes. Tighter in shots of the beauties of nature around here. We all go through phases. I've taken the intimate landscapes to the extreme this summer with macro shots of nature's colors and textures. Not that earlier shots were "wrong" but those I take now are more pleasing to my eye. I like the direction I've seen in your photography over the last year or so. well done.

Nice hike and a very good looking photo of the stream.
I climbed a hill of my own today - much much smaller and on my bicycle, so a very different experience. I did however carry a backpack full of (film) camera gear, and shot a lot of photos on the top of "my" hill.
There was something so satisfying about hearing the shutter - and in my case also the film advance - after a physically demanding climb.
Never mind the long ride back home straight into a strong headwind with aching legs and a sore neck, gasping for air part of the way...
Perhaps if you stayed up on Yewbarrow Fell over night, and got an early morning sunset shot of the amber sunlight reflecting in the lake or covering the hills?
Anyway, I think I know where you are headed... That's gonna be very interesting to see. Looking forward to it.

It is quite enjoyable watching your hike! It takes extra (lots) efforts to share your expedition and thoughts. Thank you very much!
You have to be inspired to shoot, no matter your focuses (or foci) are, panorama or minimalism, big or small. Mother nature presents herself as she is, condition, time, and place. Sometimes, the scenery can be fantastic and beautiful for "tourists", but not (good enough) for photographers. What would you do? My attitude has changed after this pandemic mess. I would take a picture or two (been there, done that)... like a record. Then, I'd become a tourist and just enjoy the heck of it!
Most importantly, safety first!! Be well, be inspired, and have fun!

Thomas, the video of you hiking up the MTN. was great, the shift in camera angles, made for a very cinematic feel. As a stills photographer, I must say this style of video and the result was as enjoyable as if you had gotten a banger of a shot. Good job.

Sunrise sunset is a crutch. I'm board with them. Glad you are morphing. Like the videos,. It is all about getting the photo though.

Please keep rambling on, it's the only way this American will get to see the rest of the world. I appreciate your thought process.
