30 years ago I made a huge mistake and got caught stealing a 30 dollar garment - I think it is unfair that my record can’t be wiped clean but those with Felonies can have theirs expunged - please make this make sense … 30 years ago!!!
Eric L Nicholson I think you should be able to get all of your felony convictions expunged, otherwise what's the point when the stigma will still exist whether it's 1 or 10 that's seen on your record. The employer or housing committee wants to know if you were convicted of a felony, not necessarily a misdemeanor. Furthermore, if I were convicted of a crime years ago, and have served my time, as long as I was not convicted of any felonies during that period of incarceration, it should count for me being felony free during that time. I really appreciate what is being done to relieve convicted felons from the stigma we endure because of crimes we've committed in our past, but there has to be a lot more thought put into making this law completely effective in creating a pathway for ex-convicted felons to live as normal citizens, or the cycle may continue.
It can be set aside, signed by a judge, taken off i-chat but the MiCourt website created by the MI court administrator and Supreme Court will refuse to remove anything because they want punishment not sucess for you.
I fully expected my convictions to be removed as of yesterday. I meet all of the requirements. However, in a search in ICHAT today, my convictions are still there. Does anyone have any information on what the next steps are for me now?
@TheChristianLife I'll have to dig out my old paperwork, but I believe both of mine were 8 year felonies. And yeah, it seems like you're should come off as well.
They just trying to get $10 per person. If 1 million people pay $10 in a day or 1.5 million people pay $10 they make 15 million in one week and still there is no expungement. 2 days later they signed a new gun reform. Good luck everyone
Two things to remember: 1) if you miss just one criteria for auto-expunge, even on a technicality, you are put in the manual process pile, and you'll prob still get it. 2) Even if you are certain you meet everything, remember that wheels and gears of government turn SLOWLY. I know a dude whos CSC4 expunge didn't go off ichat for three months. And that was a manual one, which are fast tracked. Check your eligibility, do your homework, and be patient! Good luck bro!
Great legislation, But those with juvenile records still are left with little relief. I have two felonies and two misdemeanors on juvie record, but still can’t expunge them due to Michigan not allowing juvenile records with more than 1 felony adjudication to be expunged. I got denied a federal security clearance due to my crimes when 14 years old, even though many years have passed and no subsequent arrests or adult convictions. The OPM investigator told me I would have a better chance at obtaining the clearance with an expunged record, but under current law it’s impossible. Under the new law if my offenses were adult convictions, they could be expunged. So frustrating
We only get the info after the fact it doesn't help when the news only mentions this after the day goes by I've been passed up over taking the blame on video arraignment getting hit with 3 non violent felonies in the year 2008
It doesn't appear so. You have to inquire into your own criminal record yourself. I paid the $10 to see my record at the ICHAT website, but my convictions were still there even though I expected them to be gone. So, I don't know what to do now... There is also another method you can find on Michigan gov website of getting a personal records check by sending your fingerprints and $30 to the address provided to get your personal records check via mail.
It's not 😔 accosting a minor for immoral purposes when I was just 19 in 2011. All that happened was talking about hooking up and trading a pic... met online and said she was also 19 and she wasn't. Ruined my life. I'm not a pedo, don't have a problem and haven't done anything since. It's been like 13 years. I deserve to get expunged.
@@jakeyoung4217 Sorry to hear that, buddy. I can offer some encouragement that the political winds regarding sex offender laws are moving toward leniency. One, there's a nation-wide movement toward leniency in cases like yours. Two, the current powers that be in Lansing are more inclined this way, including Nessel. And three, lawyers chit chat a lot about how MI awful sex offender laws that were thrown out of court were largely due to one man: Sen Rick Jones, who was a bit of a zealot, and is now out of office. I was pre-law and helping a friend out at time, and learned a ton about these laws and what people go through. they are designed to catch some nasty people who need to be off the streets, but catch 1000s of minnows in the net as well. good luck and hang in there!

How is this after the fact? And how have you been passed up?
This doesn't erase your felonies if you have more than 2
Will we be notified when/if we get the auto expungement?

What about tier 2 sex offenders that got screwed over by the justice system and poor representation?
Read the jury instructions , if no victim then u were kidnapped by these vermin
If it isn't expungable, you are SOL. Only expungable CSC is CSC4 convictions before a certain date.
